LORDI Cancels WACKEN OPEN AIR Appearance - Apr. 19, 2007
Finnish heavy metal monsters LORDI have cancelled their previously announced appearance at this year's installment of the Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place August 2-4, 2007 in Wacken, Germany.

LORDI management has issued the following statement regarding the matter:

"It is with deep and genuine regret that LORDI are forced to cancel their scheduled appearance at this year's Wacken Open Air. The band has been offered a headline, main stage slot at this year's Ozzfest, and so are unable to leave that tour in order to perform at Wacken. The band wish to sincerely apologise to the booker, the organizers, and especially their fans for this situation, but their hands are tied. LORDI look forward to performing at Wacken in the near future."

LORDI has already been confirmed for the 2008 edition of the festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008.

Since winning Eurovision (the song contest that previously was a springboard for mainstream artists such as ABBA and CELINE DION) by its highest score ever, LORDI's popularity has grown to gargantuan heights, with the band conquering numerous European charts and a six-week sold out tour of Europe. The band's latest album, "The Arockalypse" has been certified triple platinum in Finland and is now also among the Top 60 best-selling Finnish albums ever. In addition to gracing the cover of dozens of Finnish publications, news features on LORDI's groundbreaking Eurovision win appeared outside of Finland in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian and Spin.

Lordi isn't real metal anyways, and I wasn't going to watch that show at Wacken no matter what. Lets hope they confirm Slayer instead! :D

LORDREZO pissed off?
He doesn't even know what WACKEN is.

Besides this says it all for this "band". They prefer Ozzfest over Wacken. Go with the losers then. Wacken doesn't need you.

The winners of the Eurovision Song Contest at Ozzfest. Great...

Beeing a "free" tour didn't at all affect the booking....

Over here in Europe Lordi is a joke to real appreciaters of hard rock. Their audience must be average 7 years of age...

VAN HALEN get sober and tour!

Ohnoes.

Ozzy's taken bands from Wacken!

Wacken Vs. Ozzfest begins!
And already Wacken wins by a landslide.

...Lordi will see how the Ozzsuckers will bow them down and Wacken "lost" a fun-rockband and must go along with the Super-Metal-Up - maybe a really cool band can take Lordis place and - if we have all the luck - Bullet For My Valentine will leave the bill, too.

Unless the festivals are already booked up by the time you sign the Ozzfest deal (usually February is when they sign them) then out fo respect for fans who buy *NON-REFUNDABLE* airline tickets then you should just wait to sign the deals with the non-touring festivals like Wacken AFTER youve decided (or Sharon's decided) about Ozzfest (same can apply to SOTU, Gigantour, etc). While Im sure no ones gonna go to Wacken just to see Lordi, you never know. They do seem to have quite a cult following in Finland...so maybe there are some whod go just for them.
