MORDRED Singer Comments On Possibility Of Full-Flegded Reunion - May 15, 2007
Mordred - The Band, a blog dedicated to spreading information on the late '80s/early '90s San Francisco Bay Area funk-metallers MORDRED, recently caught up with the group's singer Scott Holderby to ask him a few questions regarding the current status of the band and his personal diversions. An excerpt follows:

Q: So Scotty, around 2005 there was meant to be a reunion show in New York, but it never materialised. What happened?

Scott: There were to be two shows in NYC but sadly all the people in the group couldn't make it and we wanted everybody there. We could probably pull it off now.

Q: Since we last spoke around two years ago, what have you been up to musically?

Scott: I have the HIGH SOCIETY ANGELS (organic electric soul) — six-piece with drums, bass, guitar, keys, trumpet and me singing and writing the songs. HI-NOBLES also (mod-garage-soul) — six-piece with sax, and also BLUE SUN (psychedelic garage blues) three-piece, with an English guitarist, drums and me singing and playing bass. Those are bands I have rolling at the moment.

Q: The main MORDRED websites seemed to become inactive around 2004. Has there still been a strong interest in the band?

Scott: There has been some interest in releasing the "In This Live" DVD. We'' see if it pans out.

Q: Are there any plans for a MORDRED reunion on a permanent basis? If not, why?

Scott: I would love to make my living and my own way with MORDRED. I'm pretty sure we have enough past members to make two complete bands. Gannon [Hall, drums] and Danny [White, guitar] live in NYC now so practicing would be difficult. I think if anyone wanted to fly us anywhere exotic to play we'd be right there. Hasn't anyone got an inheritance and needs MORDRED for their wedding-bar mitzva in Monte Carlo? I have a nice tux...!

Of all the things to name a funk-metal band, Mordred is probably one of the least fitting.

Goddammit, there's probably a power-metal band somewhere in Hamburg or Stockholm that could've used that name to greater effect!

As if any power metal band could ever touch Mordred...... If only they were here now *sigh*
The best blend of pure thrash and funk i've ever heard. Everyone should buy the In This Life LP as it is one of the keystone records of thrash metals' development. Lets see a reunion! I cant pay for your flights though lads.

...really needs to reissue their early stuff. Fool's Game, In This Life, and the Vision EP are all vibrant, vital slices of funk thrash.

They were a bit unlucky with their timing though the music scene had already moved away from the likes of The red hot Chilli peppers and faith no more and other such music that would have bought into a band like Mordred, Grunge had just raised its ugly head and anything that wasnt genre specific had to take a back seat.

How about early MORDRED when they were an EXODUS/ SLAYER type Thrash act?! 1984/1985

I'm not sure, but I think that Mordred has reformed with the original singer and they are doing earlier stuff before I came to know them as 'funk metal' Check out their site, Mordredsf.com or look them up on myspace. That where I got this info. Hope it helps. I only saw them through the funk stuff, but it's all good. They truly rocked!!!!
