DEICIDE Parts Ways With Guitarist RALPH SANTOLLA - May 24, 2007
Florida-based death metallers DEICIDE have parted ways with guitarist Ralph Santolla. A replacement axeman has not yet been announced.

Santolla (ex-DEATH, ICED EARTH) told BLABBERMOUTH.NET last month that he was looking to join a new band "in any genre of metal." "I like to keep busy writing, recording and touring," Santolla said. "Down time drives me nuts. Anyone looking for a guitarist can contact me at ralphsantolla@hotmail.com."

Santolla appears on DEICIDE's latest CD, "The Stench of Redemption", which was released in August via Earache Records. The follow-up to 2004's "Scars of the Crucifix" was recorded at Morrisound in Tampa, Florida and marks the first DEICIDE recording following the departure of the Hoffman brothers.

DEICIDE released a DVD, "Doomsday L.A.", on February 6, 2007 via Earache. The set, which was filmed using multiple cameras on November 10, 2006 at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, features the group's most recent lineup of Glen Benton (bass, vocals), Steve Asheim (drums), Jack Owen (guitar; ex-CANNIBAL CORPSE) and Santolla. The bonus material incorporates exclusive interviews and promo videos, including the recent "Homage for Satan" clip.

he would be good back in ol' Iced Earth. Speaking of, I hope their new album whenever it drops blows the pants off of the Glorious Burden, for some reason I did not like that album at all.

...that stint didn't last very long. I'm sure the terminal uncertainty of whether or not the band's frontman would actually show up or give a fuck about gigs had something to do with his departure.

Good for Ralph.

A pity, it was his guitaring that made Stench such a masterpiece. It`s probably Deicide`s best.

He probably quit cause Glen Benton was MIA all the fuckin' time. Well, fuck you Glen! You were too busy fuckin' around with Vital Remains and now the best line-up your band has ever had is slowly falling apart.

This cannot be a good thing for Deicide fans. If Santolla left because Benton wouldn't agree to more money for him I'll be pissed. Stench was indeed thier best. Not a good day for original Tampa Bay death metal.

Some things are much more important than touring. It has nothing to do with Vital Remains or a lack of respect for fans. There are personal issues that must be resolved before he can resume touring. Sometimes, everyday life does get in the way, and that is the case here.

Maybe Ralph got tired of the death threats he gets over seas for being catholic. Guess he'll have to turn down this mighty "golden ticket" of a band. The fame and money of deicide aint worth your life.

Ralph should get Eyewitness back together. That kind of music is really his style anyway. He did great leads on "Stench", but they might have been too melodic for a death metal band.

thats a real shame man, i loved that guy, he brought some real nice melodic solos into that band
I dont think deicide will sound right without santolla
Jack owen is good but its nice to have someone who does melodic solos, like mike ammott, he played in carcass and still made the solos uplifting not just tech.

Well first off. Making Deicide into a Vital Remains wannabe may have been a good idea and a bad one at the same time. Ralph is an awesome guitarist that deserved to be in a band with equally awesome musicians. That isn't the case in Deicide. Jack Owen's guitar playing has been deteriorating since the last few Corpse albums and when they replaced him, they put out an album worthy of their top 3. Glen may be a death metal vocalist but he isn't exactly a very good one. Monotone, raspy, burnt out and boring. And on top of that he's an ass!!! I met Ralph when my band opened up for them last Oct. I shared a beer with him and bugged him about his playing and his gear. He's a joker but he's also modest and that is the key to a great shredder. Glen on the other hand got all in a tizzy because we were backstage using the band exit to get to our cars. I mean come on bro. The metal community has enough assholes, it's what we use to shit out the chicken wings and beer. We don't need some over the hill has been reminding us of his laughable notariety. I'd rather watch Malmstein eat a bakers dozen of Apple fritters dipped in Crisco.

that is why the Hoffmans left and now why Ralph is leaving as well.

Deal with it......Glen doesn't care about the music, Glen doesn't care about the fans,Glen doesn't care about the band's image. All Glen cares about is Jack Daniels, cancelling shows and protecting his "gay Satanist biker" image.

Maybe Glenda should change the band's name to DickIRide.

These are the things I was told from people who went to the Deicide gig in Adelaide:

- Someone went up to Glen and said something like "you've inspired me" and handed Glen a CD of his band's music. Glen smashed the CD against his forehead and spat on the remains.

- In between songs Glen kept on lamenting about being single and all. Then a couple of chicks volunteered to screw him and he was like "check that out man".

Fucking Hell, I know I wasn't there but if these things really are true, then Glen really needs to get out of his mid life crisis. Or he just needs to grow the hell up.

I am a fan of Deicide, escpecially "Deicide", and "Once Upon The Cross", and I am really disheartened that the band doesn't handle personal business well. Good luck to Ralph and both the Hoffman's, but I don't like the way Deicide is creating it's own soap opera. If they could all just be pro's about this and get shit done everyone would be better off.

I really feel for Steve, as he's a kick ass drummer.

I also think trashing Glen won't help Deicide make better music.
