BAD BRAINS: 'Build A Nation' Artwork Revealed - May 30, 2007
The cover artwork for the new BAD BRAINS album, "Build a Nation", has been posted at this location. Due on June 26 via Megaforce Records, the group's first proper studio CD in over a decade features all the original members: HR, Darryl Jenifer, Dr. Know and Earl Hudson. An audio sample of the song "Jah People Make The World Go Round" has been posted on the band's MySpace page.

Produced by longtime fan, Adam Yauch of the BEASTIE BOYS, "Build A Nation" is a return to form for the band that helped define American punk and hardcore music. It also represents the first studio album, outside BEASTIE BOYS albums, to be recorded at the BEASTIE BOYS' "Oscilloscope" laboratories and studio compound in New York City.

As previously reported, SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian directed the first video off "Build a Nation". Production took place in Portland and also at the Sasquatch Festival, where BAD BRAINS just performed. Those appearances were documented and a "making of the video" was also filmed.

"I've been a fan of the BRAINS ever since I can remember," Shavo said in a statement. "They are iconic pioneers of punk, not just the music but the attitude. The energy that comes off their stage is like no other. HR's performances have affected not only my band, but almost every heavy band in our era. Another major inspiration is their message of trying to promote righteousness and living the righteous way. I am going to rock this video for the BRAINS and try to capture their intense energy. It's a big responsibility... I'm honored."

The Bad Brains rule. There's hardly a thrash, metal, or punk band out there that doesn't owe them at least a tip of the hat for thrashing as hard as they do (and did back then). Go watch the videos of them at CBGB in the late 70s and tell me they're not completely badass. And how killer is I Against I? The new tunes sound wicked, too. Welcome back, Bad Brains.

An advance copy is floating around the net.

Will still buy it though.

It sounds good. Their best album since Quickness I'd say, but HR isn't as intense as he once was.

Hope their next release isn't a 12 year wait.

For me the first 'nu metal' album was released in 1986. It was Bad Brains' I Against I. Nothing around sounded like that and so many bands had that sound and vibe in the 90s.
