PERRY FARRELL Says DAVE NAVARRO's 'Rock Star' TV Show Caused JANE'S ADDICTION Split - May 31, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: Former JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell's new project, the SATELLITE PARTY, released its debut disc on Tuesday (May 29), titled "Ultra Payloaded". The CD is a loose concept record about an organization called "the Solutionists" that wants to use music to change the world for the better. Farrell told Launch that the idea came to him after JANE'S ADDICTION began falling apart while guitarist Dave Navarro started hosting the "Rock Star" reality series. "My band broke up basically over reality TV, and I just couldn't believe it," he said. "So I thought, like, rock and roll has never been about kissing ass and a contest. You know, rock and roll is self-expression. It's defiance. It's freedom. So I started to write about a group of people, they call themselves the Solutionists, that take matters into their own hands in this do-it-yourself world where basically the media has given up on the future."

The SATELLITE PARTY also features former EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, while the album contains guest appearances from RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea and guitarist John Frusciante, BLACK EYED PEAS singer Fergie and others, as well as what may be the last known recording made by late DOORS vocalist Jim Morrison.

"Ultra Payloaded" is packaged in "an entirely eco-friendly" digipack made exclusively out of recycled paper, while the disc itself is carbon-neutral. All the estimated carbon dioxide produced by the manufacture and shipping of the record will be offset by the construction of renewable energy projects.

The band will perform on CBS-TV's "Late Show with David Letterman" on June 5, and has scheduled a residency on "Last Call with Carson Daly" for June 12, June 13, June 14 and June 15. The group will also perform in August at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival, of which Farrell is one of the organizers.

I heard one song & I really liked it. Anyone heard it all? I think this sounds like something different worth checking out. Nuno continues to stay busy...

I never really liked any of the ex-Janes members side project bands. Perry Farrell's last album I thought was a disappointment, Dave Navarro's solo album was somewhat weak (horrible vocals), and the Panic Channel debut album is mediocre at best. the only post-Janes band that I ever really liked was Porno For Pyros. they were real good, but still not in the same league as the original Janes Addicition... so, with this in mind, I won't be making too much of an effort to check out the Satelite Party disc.

Totally agreed on Deconstruction being great! Easily the best post-Jane's project by any member but probably also the most obscure.

Navarro is cool but he should be more concerned with making great music than becoming the alt rock generation's answer to Tommy Lee. I hope he is done with this 'Rock Star' crap.

Hearing that Pets song reminds me of being in middle school. Whenever I hear it's like getting smacked in the face by 1994ish.

i bought the album and i've listened to it twice now. it's pretty good for what it is. if you like the single you will probably like the rest. kinda pop/dance/hard rock all thrown together. nuno rips and that alone is worth my money.

Yeah, it was Rockstar that broke up the band. Nevermind that the other three guys decided to form a band together WITHOUT YOU. If you want to know why Jane's broke up again, take a look in the mirror.

Actually it's really good in my opinion which means probably jack to all you... It's got a great feel to the music but it's definately not metal. and if you expect to hear Jane's then don't get this.

The album is awesome. The best thing Perry has done in awhile. Actually the Jim Morrison song is the worst one, it suck and doesn't fit the vibe... but aside from that, the record is tops.
Deconstruction was a masterpiece!!!
Perry has had some missteps but all in all, his shit is better than anything you like.
Dave is done, nothing.
Truth.

COMMENT | The album actually is very good

Nuno just rips all over this record. Now I am a metal guy, just like everyone else here, I bought it at the same time I picked up Ozzy, and the new Megadeth and the chick looked at me like a was nuts. The point is if you wanna bang oyur head to Slayer ALL DAY, then good for you, but I like to mix it up, and this album CERTAINLY is a good one to mix it up with. It's just like AirHockeyChamp said, "pop/dance/hard rock all thrown together" Couldn't agree more with his entire post. Hey, I'm down with a little funk, and that song with Flea.... HOLY FUCK, that guy is a monster bass player. Even if he ISN'T metal, he rips. Geezer Butler is probably one of my favorite bass players that comes to mind right now, but Flea buries him alive. Amazing. Anyhow it's late and I'm rambling. BTW, if my opinion Strays was a killer album. Reading about people trashing it made me want to drag it out and have another listen. Definately the heaviest Jane's Addiction was. AND, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE PANIC CHANNELL DIDN'T DO BETTER. Amazing record, if anyone, like me, grew up in the 90's with some alternative in their collection, they should at least give it a listen. It sounds so 90's alternative, it might actually make you feel nostalgic for the 90's. Even if the 90's was overrun with alternative bands, at least they were better than what we get now. Fucking Linkin Park, Incubus, Modest Mouse, Killers bullshit they cram down our throats nowadays. Luckily I got XM and I listen to the Boneyard if I'm gonna listen to the radio. Anyhow, that's my 2 cents.
