OZZY OSBOURNE's 'Black Rain' Goes Green
- June 5, 2007
|
|
Launch Radio Networks reports: OZZY OSBOURNE's latest album, "Black Rain", is actually green. The album, which came out on May 22, was released in "eco-friendly" packaging, with the CD sleeve made out of recycled paper. In addition, the record came out without a booklet to further save paper, with the lyrics, credits and other inside material available to buyers of the CD at SonyMusic.com. "Black Rain" features several songs based on current events and the state of the world in general. But Osbourne told Launch that he hasn't turned into an "issues-oriented" artist. "Believe me, I've not suddenly woken up and I'm sane," he said. "But I'm not one of these guys that can write about boy-meets-girl and, I mean, it's got to mean something to me. I don't write all the lyrics, but I have to say, 'Well, you know, isn't that strange that that happened when this happened,' you know, and I'll get going, you know." "Black Rain" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart last week, with first-week sales of 152,000 copies. Specially marked copies (now sold out) of "Black Rain" come with a code which fans can use to download tickets to this summer's free Ozzfest, which begins on July 12 in Seattle with Osbourne headlining. To download OZZY OSBOURNE's "Black Rain" CD booklet as a PDF file, complete with lyrics, credits and artwork, click here. According to a posting on Ozzy's website, "you must insert the 'Black Rain' CD when prompted in order to be able to complete the download." Osbourne will be the first person inducted into the new Birmingham Walk of Stars, which will honor the British city's most famous sons and daughters. Osbourne's induction ceremony will be held on July 6.

They were just trying to cut corners...... there is more than enough recycled paper in the world to print an eco-friendly booklet. I guess now they'll see more profits off of all those 16 dollar CDs

Not like the Ozzy one they're not. NIN have full liner notes and a lyrics booklet. Black Rain is a CD sandwiched between two dirty looking pieces of cardboard. Shittiest packaging ever.
When I first got it, I thought it was simply the promo version. I culdn't believe that's what's being marketed.

"The fuck? who cares? Mediocre album. Sasve the enviorment???? Leave that up to people who really care Ozzy."
..you are the reason that "people who really care" have so much trouble solving environmental problems by themselves. do you not realize it is the duty of everyone to protect the environmental commons? we can't do it alone..

I read somewhere that the dude who's like the minister of the environment in the US is a staunch religious believer who *knows* that the second coming is at hand within the next 50 years. So why look after the environment if the second coming is so close anyway?

When they smelt down old car frames to recast in new ones they are literally recycling metal into new metal. Kinda like record producers. They took good old fashioned metal and melted it down to make nu metal.
PS if anyone knows the Kreator/King NA dates please advise.

There wouldn't be as much garbage passed out at the Ozzfest show with all the shitty promo cds, flyers and just junk in general! A cd book ain't shit compared to all the crap they force on you in the "Village of The Damned!"
I bet the free promo shit has better packaging than Black Rain does!

These "forums" are just a few of the reasons these really high quality metal outdoor fests never come here. Americans want everything perfect, cheap and/or free. It just doesn't work that way.
Then...when something IS free, it's not good enough. Then when something "perfect" comes along, it's too expensive or it's "just for the money." These problems exist in all forms of music, but it's most obvious in metal. Greasy, fat, ugly slobby-ass yokels who want their favorite artist to evolve while sticking to their roots and somehow re-creating their best album ever.
I admit, I was pretty disappointed in the cheaper approach at packaging for the new album. But in the end, I honestly buy my music to support the artist if I find that it's worthwhile. 9 out of 10 times it is. And who looks through their booklet more than maybe 3 times anyways. You scan the photos, read the lyrics a time or two and move on with your life.
But whatever, another reason for everyone to hate on Ozzy.

so in other words here pay us the same amount of money when it cost us $0.25 for the cd and prob $0.25 for the packaging. Yet you also get Ozzys shitty new music :D (I only say it's shitty, because it sounds like Zakk used throw away Black Label Society material for Ozzy's cd.)

Aside from that [song? if you can even call it that] it reminds me of haha, it is cool to do it for the environmental value. I, however, can't stand the awful packaging, although I will not use it as another thing against the cd like some people have. It is a mediocre cd, no doubt, but I respect the intent of the packaging and not speculate that one of my favorite artists is greedy based solely on the fact that he has sold a substantial amount of records in the past. Ozzy is certainly over the hill, I think everybody knows it. Thats what No More Tears is for... [yup my favorite solo cd, not Blizzard, diary, no rest, ultimate, etc

I support the bands I enjoy by going to there concerts, and maybe a t-shirt here and there. But I will not play ball with these record labels that feast off the mark-up prices which it takes to make a cd, they got too much of my money when i was a teenager.
Now they can suck my fucking dick when they are crying because they arent posting record profits anymore. Intellectual property....?
Just like buying pot, cut out the middle man
Support your bands by seeing them live

I think albums need booklets. The packaging can at least all be recycled. I dont mind that thick paper for album packaging. It worked for records(LP's) back in the day.

As much as I love this album. I do wish it came with a booklet. Hell thats part of the fun of getting a new CD. And, I preffer to have my CDs in a protective plastic case. Esspecially if its coming through the mail. And, Recycling is BULLSHIT. It cost more money and, uses up more energy to recycle paper. Then it is to throw it away with the rest of your garbage. Same thing goes for plastic and, glass. However, recycling alluminum cans is ok. It cost less money and, uses up less energy to recycle soda cans. If you want proof of the recycling stuff I just said. Check out Season 2 of Penn&Teller:BULLSHIT
