MAX And IGOR CAVALERA Collaborating On New Music For First Time In 10 Years

SEPULTURA founding members and brothers Max and Igor Cavalera have confirmed that they are collaborating on new music for the first time in more than 10 years. According to reports, the material will be released as a completely new project, separate from Max's work in SOULFLY.
Jose Mangin of Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack just returned from Phoenix, Arizona where he visited Max at his home and got a chance to hear some of the music that has been written for this new band.
The material, which has been described by Mangin as "sick"-sounding, may include guest appearances by members of NAPALM DEATH and SOULFLY guitarist Marc Rizzo, although this has not yet been confirmed.
Igor Cavalera left SEPULTURA in June 2006 due to "artistic differences." He has since been replaced by Jean Dolabella (ex-UDORA).
Igor's departure from SEPULTURA came five months after he announced that he was taking a break from the group's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son (who was born in January 2006). Filling in on drums during the band's spring 2006 European tour with IN FLAMES was Roy Mayorga, who played with Max in SOULFLY for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003.
Max Cavalera left SEPULTURA in December 1996 after the rest of the band fired his wife Gloria as the group's manager.

something worth actually takling about. i think this shit will be awesome. i could see something like this becoming the main project of igor and max. i mean let face it soulflys last album had some ok moments but other than that everything else they released is shit. igor has nothing but his djing thing. i would love to see this become a full time band. plus you know they would play sep. covers and it would just be bomb. sounding.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
But to call Soulfly awful is just WRONG.
They're a great band that deserves more recognition than a lot of other bands.

The headlines should be called Sepultura is back, after 12 years of departure! Just buy the name from Andreas, put Marc Rizzo and David Ellefson on bass and call it Sepultura, it would be way more real than that living-corpse band called Sepultura.
Funny thing, it took 10 years for Igor to leave the sinking ship behind! The good part is that, even though it took so long, he did jump off of it.

I thought the only Soulfly albums that are better than average are the Debut Self Titles and Dark Ages. (Which are both Solid Albums.)
Had they not let Fred Durst apear on the first one, I would have put it in the "Classic" catagory.

And if not, at least the heart and soul of Sepultura is collaborating on new music for the first time in a decade. I will never forget seeing Sepultura destroy @ First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN in March of 1994. Hopefully I will get to see the Cavalera brothers in a live setting again sometime soon...Quite frankly they never did much for me on either side when they were apart.

OK, enough! If it's time to bury anything, it's the usage of the word 'sick' to mean that something is really good. Hell, it should have been aborted before it ever came into being!! I think I'll start a new one. Lemme see.....it has to be some word that usually means that something is bad....oh, I know! How about 'terrible'? As in, "Oh man, I still listen to that Arise album all the time. Andreas and Max' guitar work back then was just terrible!" Yeah, that has a nice ring to it. you are wrong, wrong, wrong ... when Max and the rest of the Sepultura guys were in negotiations during late 1996, the other guys proposed that Max continue being managed by his wife Gloria, while the rest of the guys be managed by a seperate company and at the same time, still continue to work together as a cohesive band. well, it was Max that refused to cooperate. because the other guys didn't want to work with Gloria anymore, he felt that was a betrayal towards him and HE quit. Max WAS NOT fired. he left on his own. so, get your story straight.

I wouldn't call this Cavalera/Cavalera collaboration the "real Sepultura". Not even personnel-wise. It's like Paul McCartney doing a project with George Harrison. That wouldn't have been the Beatles. No, I don't think that Kisser is Lennon. Only in comparison.
They are all terrible nowadays, anyway.

There were no brothers that created the band in Beatles.
Max and Igor are more like Dime and Vinnie, okay, Damageplan was nothing like Pantera, but none of them did the vox for the band, and the case is different here.
Songs like Carved Inside and Frontlines from Soulfly´s Dark Ages already sound like old Sepultura with only one member. They could call the new band Sepultura and be way more "sepulturistic" than Sepultura is nowadays.

1) Even with a black guy on vocals, the band never dwelved into the shitty rapcore trend like Soulfly did (featuring Fred Durst, Chino Moreno, Corey Taylor, and many more)
2) None of that retarded tribal shit, which we hear about on every single fucking Soulfly album, if not every single track.
3) Musically, the band actually keeps developing. Not something that can be said about Soulfly and it's 5 Roots clones.

Where was Sepultura before Andreas Kisser? What did it sound like?
I don't know much about Soulfly and "today's" Sepultura. I'm just not interested.
I'm only criticizing those guys who want the Cavaleras to reclaim the "brand" Sepultura.
It's not like The Smashing Pumpkins -- that's Billy Corgan and Chamberlin, essentially. Okay, no more comparisons.

You are correct, but to say Max left for $$$ is untrue. He left because the other 3 guys wanted to fire one of the 2 people most responsible for getting Sepultura on the world stage (the other being Monte Conner). If not for Gloria this band probably would not have succeeded.
Of course Max left, they turned their back on him and his wife. If she wasn't such a key player in their success I would not agree this was sufficient for reason for Max to leave. But she was, and rightfully so, Max took offense. There is other shit too, but I'm not about to write a fucking novel.

you 2 are correct and good points. just look at what sepultura's career was like after they fired gloria : they lost max; released albums that had few songs, if any material as strong as the original line up had; and then they lost igor.

dude, you're not making a lot of sense at all... first of all, I never said anything about Max leaving because of money. I don't know where you got that from... and second, Sepultura can't "fire" Monte Conner. he's the president of Roadrunner records... and to say that Gloria was a major factor in Sepultura's success is ridiculous. a band member being married to the band's manager is usually a recipe for disaster.

common knowledge that max quit because he was offended when guys didn't want to pay huge amount of money for her ( i belive around 25%). She helped guys to get the gig....well that was here job, anyother manager would do it, but it was sepultura guys who wrote the music, not her.
I was huge sep fan, even seen them live just before they split up......but after i seen they split beacuse of money....fuck them, sep and soulcrap.
