IRON MAIDEN Singer's ALEISTER CROWLEY Film To Go Into Production - June 25, 2007
According to U.K.-based music journalist Dave Ling, IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson's film about occult legend Aleister Crowley (infamous as "the wickedest man in the world") will shortly go into production, with Simon Callow (IMDb) — of "Amadeus", "Shakespeare in Love" and, appropriately, "The Phantom of the Opera" — set for the title role. "Dickinson has spent 12 years working on this project, and is understandably thrilled to get it moving at last," says Ling.

The movie is reportedly about a professor in an English university, who, after a failed experiment, becomes obsessed with Crowley's soul. Crowley himself was very much into red-haired women, and the professor becomes enchanted by a very beautiful, red-haired student.

Crowley, who lived between 1875 and 1947, has been Bruce Dickinson's idol for many years. The IRON MAIDEN song "Revelations" is said to refer to Crowley's classic claim that he was the "anti-christ 666" reincarnated. In other words, the Devil himself.

Although Bruce isn't planning a successor to his 2005 solo album "Tyranny of Souls" in the break before MAIDEN's next summer tour, he doesn't rule out getting together with producer/guitarist Roy Z to work on some new music for the soundtrack, according to Ling.

This will likely be bad, and result in Bruce losing his voice forever or something equally tragic and unforseen.

Dude, why would Bruce use an Ozzy song of all things in his movie and put even more money in that bitch Sharon's pockets?! - Not to mention that he wrote his own Crowley song over a decade ago, i.e. 'Man of Sorrows' off of 'Accident of Birth.' Look for that to be part of the soundtrack.

This would be interesting for Bruce to do, a movie about Aleister
Crowley.

But what I'm wondering is, what would Nicko think?

love their music, but what film credentials does Bruce have?

the book he wrote a long time ago The Misadventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace or whatever it was called was panned horribly.

i hope for his sake it's respectable but i would bet that it's not.

it sounds like just another bad b-horror movie.

i could be wrong. what the fuck do i know.

go Bruce.

cheers.

Yo Brandor, you don't have to look up to somebody to make a movie about them. That's sort of like Jesus freaks saying that just because you sing a song like Number of the Beast, you must be a Satanist.

I never made the Crowley connection to the song Revelations before (and I'm a fan and collector since '81), but it does seem to describe the story of Crowley's invocation of Choronzon in Egypt in 1904, which is a remarkable tale. Supposedly this was the turning point in his life when he became the "Great Beast 666" and Crowley himself claimed to never be the same after it. His assistant in the ritual literally went mad from the experience. A good story is a good story.

As another connection, Crowley wrote a fiction novel called "Moonchild" (like the song title) which described the invocation of a demon to impregnate a woman with the anti-christ. It may have been written as fiction, but it was taken seriously by people like California OTO leader Jack Parsons, whose disciples included L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology fame (who claimed to write Dianetics in a trance) and the infamous Charles Manson before he formed his murderous clan. Like I said, a good story is a good story.

Crowley is in the kitchen making some omlettes and cracking some eggs and as background music, just to set the scene, "Mr Crowley" by Ozzy comes on!

On a serious note "Up the Irons" but better still.....Diamond Head \M/

Hey I'm all for having PMA (positive mental attitude), but there are good reasons nobody's touched this subject matter before - one of them's called "dumbing down", which is what I expect in the extreme from this crop of films about Crowley.

BTW, Diary of a Drug Fiend is another very enjoyable read from the man. Check it out.

Everything Bruce touches turns to gold. Well, at least thats what he thinks. The man is overtly intelligent though and I'll bet it is done with a certain level of class not generally seen in the field of horror. Not to mention Iron Maiden is the greatest band of all time so regardless of its appeal to the masses I'll still watch it for that reason alone.

Oughtta cast John Cleese and the rest of the peeps from Fish Called Wanda, make it all slapsticky 'n sh*t. Plus the dudes from the Young Ones.

Vyvian: "Crowley, you COMPLETE bastard!"

And, yeah, the making-eggs-in-the-kitchen scene, a must-have. Maybe have Harptallica or Apocalytpica perform "Mr. Crowley" for the credits music

But seriously, as was pointed out before, it'd be almost impossible to address stuff that nuanced, dark, and complex in a film. But throw in a hot redhead and hey, it's all good.
