VAN HALEN To Hit The Road In September? - July 2, 2007
According to MelodicRock.com, VAN HALEN is preparing to hit the road in the U.S. beginning in September. The group's lineup for the trek is expected to include David Lee Roth (vocals), Eddie Van Halen (guitar), Alex Van Halen (drums) and Eddie's 16-year-old son Wolfgang Van Halen (bass).

Wolfgang Van Halen, the projected replacement for VH bassist Michael Anthony, told People magazine in April 2007 that he wasn't disappointed there wasn’t' going to be a VAN HALEN tour this summer following his father's decision to check himself into rehab. "My dad's taking care of himself," he said. "I also think I'm too young for the experience, because I know there are a lot of bad things out there."

Eddie Van Halen issued a statement addressed to fans in early March announcing that he was seeking treatment because "at the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best.

"That's why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110 percent that I feel I owe you and want to give you," the statement said.

Back in January, Eddie Van Halen told Rolling Stone magazine about Wolfgang, "Wait until you hear this kid play. I pick him up from school every day and we jam. We've got a shredding bass player now that's laying down the law for Alex [Van Halen, drums], so I get to weave in and out."

VAN HALEN was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March.

If Wolfie thought himself too young 5 short months ago, I fail to see how things have changed.

Thought when EVH went to rehab, it was a signal to Mike, Sammy, and Dave that he acknowledged the need for help and was on-track to getting his life back on track. Continuing to force this same "Wolfie on bass" decision indicates that he hasn't disposed of the pettiness and irrational decision-making that has clouded the reunion from the start.

Bury the hatchet and get Mikey back. If you're so gung-ho to have Wolfie with you, let him make a "special appearance" or something.

Now that MA's announced a tour w/ Sammy, though...that ship may have sailed. Hopefully it happens, but we'll have to tune into the next installment of "Days of Van Halen" to find out for sure.

I hope so, and there are so many signs that it pointed to happening.

1:Remember that the tour was originally postponed
2: Eddie did say in the Guitar World interview that he, al, and wolf started practicing after 12 weeks off
3: rumors from the Live Nartion promoter in CT said that Van HALEN will tour this fall
4: The Van HALEN webisite has been updated for people to sign up for the newsletter
5: Andrew from Melodicrock reporting this now, and
6: The most important piece of information is David Lee Roth's complete silence on he whole thing speaks volumes....

tick tock, kiddies.....

but as (I'd like to think) one of the biggest VH fans here...I've been let down too many times by this band....The whole cherone era....the drunken mess that was the 2004 tour, and the cancellation earlier this year...I've seen these guys four times with Hagar...and Roth by himself twice...and I just can't manage to get excited about a headline. Put me in the front row and put all four of them ON STAGE in front of me...then maybe I'll get excited..but for now I'm in permanent "Believe it when I see it" mode with this band...

Why does everyone have a problem with Wolfie on the bass?
I mean, I would prefer Michael Anthony too but Wolfie is NOT too young to be in a band. There's been countless 16/17 year olds before him.

He may even need the money after his divorce.

come onnnnn. this is bullshit. EVH agreed to do this tour so he'd have bullshit publicity for his new equipment and guitars and shit that he's trying to sell. Guitar World magazine jumped in with both feet (twice), featuring Ed on their cover and fully indulging him with Q&As that were basically feature-length advertisements for his junk (ironic that his gear is marketed as the common guitarist's chance to get Eddie's tone when Eddie spent the last 25 years wrecking people gear with bum advice and bullshit mod tips meant to throw people off track).

so then Ed, who can't make people happy anymore, and seemingly can't share a stage with anyone, and who can't entertain the possibility that he is but one of the best parts of Van Halen (not the only good part), runs into rehab, leaving David Lee Roth holding the bag, unable to do any summer tour of his own. Ed's brother is a zombie, and his son gets the overbearing-dad treatment, like some uncoordinated kid being forced to play sports. Ed won't even admit to being a drunk/junkie/pervert/whatever, since his trips to rehab are strictly for the purposes of "work[ing] on [him]self."

Fuck Ed, fuck Alex.
Cheers to David and Mike.

We don't accept whatever we're spoon fed, many of us walked out after we heard 5150 and the sad fact that VH had become similar to Journey and other corporate rock power ballad producing acts of the late 80's. Oh and by the way Ministry of Anarchy uh no Dave is a multi-millionaire with a mansion in Pasadena, Photographer Neil Zlozower commented on it in an interview with Metal Sludge, here's an exert tough guy----"And so, you know, we had a meeting at Dave's house and Dave's got this huge mansion in Pasadena, and he's got a tennis court there, and he actually imported something like 200 tons of sand from the beaches down around San Onofre on the west coast of California, like this perfect virgin sand, because it's sort of right near a nuclear reactor, so a lot of people don't go on the beach there, and he has the sand brought down to his tennis court and had it dumped there. So, you know, we're having this meeting at Dave's, it was like being on the beach in the middle of Pasadena, all this perfect virgin sand". ---You keep on bringing up McDonald's Minstry, I suppose that's because Hagar looks so similar to Ronlad. So if Van Halen actually does this tour it's fine if you stay home and "rock" out to Love Walks In & When It's Love. The rest of us will go see the real VH. You can have Van Hagar. Trust me it's no skin off anyone's back who has taste.

I happen to know for a fact that Dave has a mansion in Pasadena. It's huge. And also Omar Hakim (a studio drummer who has played with the likes of Sting) has also stated in a drum magazine interview that Dave hired him and basically a whole orchestra to perform tunes on a album that he never even released. Hakim stated it cost a fortune and hoped Dave would one day release it. Yeah, someone who is broke would do that right moron? You're just pissed because VH sold more records with DLR (by a 34 million to 18 million margin) and that VH's legacy largely lies with Roth and not Hagar. You're a typical Hagar punk who lives in denial. Van Halen made rock history with DLR, not Hagar. And it f'ing kills your lying punk ass. But don't worry boy, I'll be here to point out the facts (and expose your fraudulent ass) for everyone to see. So keep right on posting loser. It only gives me more opportunities.

I'd sure love to know what MA did to piss off ED..to the point where ed calls him by his real name in every interview in the past year...I have heard zero bad mouthing of VH by MA.

Michael Anthony earned a place on Eddie's shit list because he toured with Sammy Hagar. So while the Van Halen brothers sat on their dead asses doing nothing, Mike and Sammy were touring and staying connected to their fans. This is a concept that the Van Halen brothers have yet to grasp! Unless, of course, Eddie has something to sell.

lake monster is correct. Michael Anthony committed the cardinal sin of deciding to hang out and play with Sammy. Hard to blame him when you consider the treatment he got from ed and alex. Mike and Sammy have played several times down in Cabo as "The Other Half" (of VH, get it?) and also as Los Tres Gusanos. In order to even tour with VH in 2004, Mike was forced to take a salary rather than a share like the other three members. Sammy fought unsuccessfully for Mike to get a share so it's not hard to understand why Mike would rather hang with Sammy. Besides, I imagine Mike just wants to get out there in front of the fans and play and it's pretty apparent you may never get that opportunity if you wait around for Ed and Alex. If you needed evidence of which VH members care about the fans in the least, consider only Sammy and Mike showed up for the rnr hall of fame induction ceremony - and they had both been ousted from the band!

So that he could participate in the 2004 tour, didn't Mike also have to sign over his royalty rights? Seems like I read that somewhere as well. If that is the case, the VH brothers are scum. I hope Live Nation forces the issue with the brothers, and I hope MA tells them to kiss his ass.

My understanding is that Mike got out of the tour was a straight salary for playing bass - not even a piece of the merchandising. I strongly suspect that if by some miracle the reunion tour with Roth ever happens, Roth will have had to accept some deal that pays him with far less $$ than the brothers, even though it will Roth's participation that will draw the crowds. I never got to see VH with Roth so I'd go for that reason.
