Report: Half Of OZZFEST Free-Ticket-Holders Choose To Stay Home - July 19, 2007
A five-minute video montage of highlights from the opening show of this summer's Ozzfest, which took place last Thursday (July 12, 2007) in Auburn, Washington, has been posted on YouTube (set to the sound of OZZY OSBOURNE's "Not Going Away").

In other news, Leslie Griffy of the San Jose Mercury News reports that Mountain View, California police is working with Shoreline's private security to make sure everything runs smoothly at today's Ozzfest at the venue, police spokeswoman Liz Wylie said. About 17 officers are at the venue.

If the concert stays true to history, it may be a busy day for police. Last year, 11 people were arrested for fighting, drugs or alcohol-related offenses.

"That's a lot for us," Wylie said.

About 18,000 ticket-holders were expected to show up for today's all-day concert, featuring OZZY OSBOURNE and LORDI. But the city is ready in case all 30,000 people who received free tickets show up. At the festival's other shows in California, about 50 percent of the people with tickets came to the concert, Wylie said. (Note: Three Ozzfest 2007 shows have taken place so far: July 12 at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, WA; July 14 at the The Gorge in George, WA; and July 17 at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Sacramento, CA.)

Some of the other bands scheduled to play are STATIC-X, LAMB OF GOD and 3 INCHES OF BLOOD.

Because the bands are staggered through the day, starting shortly after noon, with Osbourne taking the stage at about 9:30 p.m., the city doesn't expect a major traffic jam, Wylie said.

"People will be coming and going throughout the day," she said.

Maybe if they could get some half decent bands to play, more would be willing to show up!

Actually, I have a feeling most concert goers are in my situation...I have free tickets but can't afford to make the trip to the closest venue (About 8 hr drive) due ti high gas prices

To those people crying 'foul' over this article's headline - it is in relation to the following information (contained in the story):

"At the festival's other shows in California, about 50 percent of the people with tickets came to the concert, Wylie said."

Dumbasses.

Of course, Bori placed the headline in hope of attracting dumbasses, so...mission acomplished...I guess.

Boycott Stalin Osbourne.

Stalin Osbourne has singlehandedly shamed metal (the collective persona known as Ozzy and Sharon) for many years. I'm glad people stay home.

Only believe half of what you hear. Because, bad news sells. Hell most of you believed it. I love OZZFEST I am looking forward to be seeing all the bands on the bands. I may not be a fan of screaming down a microphone mteal. But, I will always give people a chance.

The Nile sounds so damn good. I love everything about it. I'd rather not go to Ozzfest anyways, all the bands you want to hear only play for 20 min.

That's half the amount of sloppy, fat, ignorant, smelly, unappreciative, hillbilly, windbag, booze hound fucks to worry about. That's just fine by me. I can't wait until Ozzy takes the stage.

By the way, I went to Heaven & Hell in May and I'll be there again for the second leg of the US tour.

People like myself would much rather pay 40 bucks for a ticket to go see good bands opposed to seeing alot of crap bands for free and burn in the sun all day, while paying five dollars for a cup of water . Ozzy is a legend but ive seen him like 6 times now and its nothing exciting anymore .

Just like half to 3/4 of the people on this site, what we have here is a bunch of young kids who logged in to get their tickets and now mommys not letting them go for any number of reasons, but probably the most common one is, (this will also explain the education level of some of theses posts) Is that they got a bad report card before summer vacation and now thay are grounded.

You've taken one of the greatest figures in rock/metal history and made it so that he can't GIVE tickets away.. Good going loudmouth.. now shut up, stop spending the man's money and take the back seat so Ozzy can enjoy the celebrity and legend status he deserves while he's still got life in him.

That's pretty sad that they don't want to go to the show were they get to go for free.....from what has been released to the public(as far as information).

It does not matter what the line-up of Ozzfest is, Fifty percent is actually right on. Any time free tickets are given out to any event, promoters and planners can bank on half. That's the way it is. People often don't view the event as a must see if there is no "value" on the ticket. Ozzy is THE MAN.

There could be any number of reasons why people aren't turning out. In addition to a not-so-impressive line-up, I suspect that there are a lot of tickets going to waste due to the people who snatched up a bunch at a time and tried to flip them for a profit and couldn't sell them. I don't blame people for not spending money to buy some douche's extra tickets to a concert that was supposed to be free.

Also, there's probably a lot of people who got their free tickets with only a half-hearted interest in actually going to the show anyway. When it's easy and free to get tickets, it's sensible to just get some and decide on the day or a few days before the show if you're actually going to go, mitigating circumstances permitting. How many people thought they "might" be able to get off work that day, but it was 50/50, and got tickets anyway, just in case? Or how many kids who didn't have a ride or a friend to go to the show with just got a ticket and figured they'd work it out later, and it didn't pan out? Why not, they're free. Nothing lost if things don't go your way or if something else comes up. These same people, though, would probably not shell out $50-$100 if they weren't sure that they would/could make it out on the day of the show. Hence, you have more than the usual number of "I'll just get a ticket now and decide/work it out later" folks getting a ticket and not turning out.

As I'll take Sharon's word that food and parking prices wont be going up (since they arent even in charge of that) then I think your reasoning for not showing up is among the best. I live in Houston (as do over 2 million more) yet the only ones are in San Antonio and Dallas. So you have not only the cost of gas (even if its gone down a little here its still very high) but also motel costs, unless you wanna drive home for hours in complete darkness while extremely tired and probably aching. For me, I couldnt afford that. Even if I could...I wouldnt let my lazy ass drive that far...its not that good of a bill. If it were in Houston I just might go.

Actually, mommy not letting their teenage (underrage of course) kids go is one of the reasons too. Ive known people who couldnt even go to a show till 17. Some parents are just that way. And it seems 1/4 of the people at past Ozzfests ive attended were teenagers (including me at the time). I think Ozzfest should have done a better marketing campaign letting people know that indeed the food and parking cost, etc. WONT BE GOING UP IN PRICE. Unless you ram that in their heads then theyll either forget or wont buy it. I do think that price of gas shouldnt matter if its local, but if the event is hours away then yes its a big deal. I DO have a job, I live paycheck to paycheck usually, and yes a 4 hour + car ride is too expensive if Im going by myself. Thats just life. You have certain priorities in life. Ozzfest is not one of them. Paying my electricity bill or rent is. And I wont be asking money from my parents just so I can go.
