SLAYER's Catalog To Be Reissued - July 21, 2007
SLAYER singer/bassist Tom Araya has told Gary Graff of Billboard.com that in addition to the recently released new version of "Christ Illusion", Sony BMG's Legacy imprint will be re-releasing SLAYER's catalog, although no release dates or information about bonus material have been determined.

SLAYER is gearing up for its tour with MARILYN MANSON, which begins July 25 in West Palm Beach, Fla. Araya told Billboard.com the group is "going for an all-brutal set" that will feature songs SLAYER hasn't played in awhile, including "Bitter Peace" and "Ghosts of War". "We've been playing mostly the standards on this trip," Araya said, "so we kind of dug a little deeper and added a couple more to make it a little heavier."

As for the unlikely pairing with MANSON, Araya told Billboard.com, "you take a deep breath and go, 'Alright, let's see what happens.' I'm not a MANSON fan; it isn't bad, not my cup of tea. I'm not really a fan of it, but certainly Kerry (King, SLAYER's guitarist) is. And I would assume there are some SLAYER fans that are MANSON fans, and vice versa.

"What I really expect is a majority of the audience to be of looky-loos — people who wouldn't normally go to a MANSON show or normally go to a SLAYER show, but since it's one package, 'Let's kill two birds with one stone.' They want to see it 'cause it's such a strange bill — 'What's gonna happen? Let's check it out.' I'm just hoping nothing goes bad."

Metal Blade have released the first 2 Slayer albums and the EPs countless times, remastered, digipacks, sometimes with Haunting the Chapel as extra tracks, then without those tracks...I`d love really definitive versions with the early demos as well.

But I expect they`re talking about RIB onwards, I doubt Metal Blade would give up the rights to the first 2 albums unless they`re offered big bucks.

I`d love to see RiB released with a bonus live disc of a gig from the era remastered with a fancy booklet going into the making of the album. I`m not sure how much bonus material would be available from this time, no un-released Slayer tracks exist as far as I`m aware.

The reason they didn't play stuff from Divine Intervention and Diabolus was because Dave did play on those albums. Other than Disciple, they felt like they should stick with Dave-era songs. Kind of surprised to see Bitter Peace on there...

This bill will be in Atlanta next weekend, but I'm gonna take a pass. I cannot stand those outdoor "shed" venues, and I'm not a Marilyn Manson fan, either. I'm assuming Marilyn is headlining...
