Ex-EXTREME Guitarist NUNO BETTENCOURT No Longer Member Of SATELLITE PARTY
- July 22, 2007
|
|
|
Former EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has parted ways with SATELLITE PARTY, the new project led by JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell. "I worked with Perry Farrell for over three years on [SATELLITE PARTY's debut] album 'Ultra Payloaded'," Nuno writes in a statement. "Although I am very proud of the music and production of 'Ultra Payloaded', I have always felt uncomfortable with the direction of the lineup and live show. I truly do believe in the songs and music on the album, and I wish Perry Farrell and any musician that remains on tour all the best."
Released on May 29, "Ultra Payloaded" is a loose concept record about an organization called "the Solutionists" that wants to use music to change the world for the better. The album contains guest appearances from RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea and guitarist John Frusciante, BLACK EYED PEAS singer Fergie and others, as well as what may be the last known recording made by late DOORS vocalist Jim Morrison.
"Ultra Payloaded" is packaged in "an entirely eco-friendly" digipack made exclusively out of recycled paper, while the disc itself is carbon-neutral. All the estimated carbon dioxide produced by the manufacture and shipping of the record will be offset by the construction of renewable energy projects.
SATELLITE PARTY will embark on a two-month North American tour in August.

The whole "eco-friendly" packaging thing sounds certifiably geigh. So what's next for Nuno. Back to Extreme or something with Steve Perry? LOL... I vote back to Extreme. That band kicked ass.

By 'kicked ass' you mean 'sucked beyond human comprehension', right?

Extreme were very underrated and a damn fine band.
Mudguts, may I suggest chugging a bottle of clorox.

Yes it is more eco-friendly, but if I am going to pay for the CD I want something that will last. Cardboard doesn't last very long. Almost have to buy it and then never touch it and just make copies of it to use.
I lile the first single, but it's pretty much Janes Addiction to me with a totally different line-up. Perry's voice is Janes Addiction.
I can't believe they worked for 3 years on the record though. Remember when they used to do entire albums in 3 months?
How is that "last remaining Doors song?"

well, this sorta makes sense. i'm a huge nuno fan, not so much perry. i do like the album, but its not nearly as much as nuno's stuff like mourning widows or dramagods. and i thought satellite party really sucked live, especially when they were on letterman. i guess nuno thought the same thing and decided to get the hell off the sinking ship.

I got the SP CD and it's okay. Definitely not great and Nuno's bits were less than stellar compared to his talent. Schizophonic was a great CD and he should do something in that vein.

my guess is he got tired of having perry's wife as a 'member' of the band... this whole thing was doomed to failure right from the naming of the band containing farrell's name... there's a reason that jane's addiction has broken up more than once... i picked up the SP cd, and it wasn't too bad... i was surprised to hear the doors track (i hadn't heard about it), but it felt out of place on the record, but it's a decent track...
nuno's stuff post-extreme has been pretty good... would love to see a full-fledged extreme reunion, with new album and full tour...

That sucks.... I mean, it does not really matter who is in that band outside of Perry, but I am a Nuno fan, and I was looking foward to seeing them together at the shows I am going to.
I wonder if Kevin is going to stay?

No one is mourning.... They'll just get another guitar player and it will be fine... It is disappointing that Nuno left, but he did not make the band or anything. What is this bandwagon you speak of? I did not realize that they were trendy or any shit like that?

KFigg has left SP, too, seemingly. Some guy called Jordan Plosky has stated on his myspace he's touring with SP. Seems like this has been very much premeditated.
Just as well Nuno's gone. PF was an embarrassment live.

I always thought that Cherone was gay? So why shouldn't his wife look elsewhere for some loving?
I agree that the SP album had its moments but was a bit of a let down for fans of Jane's & Porno for Pyros.

How embarassing to have a 'back up vocalist' dancing around like a stripper. He brought a lot to that album, now he's moving on to bigger and better things. Good for Nuno.
ALSO Gary Cherone is not gay, and nuno never slept with anyones wife. Gary has never even been married.. Where did you hear that non-sense? it's not true.
