BRIAN 'HEAD' WELCH: Why I Walked Away From KORN - July 30, 2007
Former KORN guitarist Brian "Head" Welch recently spoke to "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network "about the amazing turn his life took when he accepted God for who He is." Watch the 10-minute report below.

For more than a decade, Brian "Head" Welch was lead guitarist for the controversial rock band KORN, but in early 2005 he shocked the international music community when he abruptly quit the band and announced that he had been saved by Jesus Christ. His announcement in front of 10,000 people in Bakersfield, California set off a media frenzy, as people from around the world sought to understand what led this rock star into the light.

Now, his story the revealing and courageous memoir, "Save Me From Myself: How I Found God, Quit Korn, Kicked Drugs, and Lived to Tell My Story" (Harper One Books), rocketed into the New York Times bestsellers list after its first week of publication, debuting at #20 on the "Non-Fiction" list.

In the book, Welch talks for the first time about how his tumultuous life with the band led to his surprising decision to quit KORN.

"The enthusiasm from KORN's early days was gone. I just sat there in so much dark depression . . . . How did I get here? . . . Why is my life such a nightmare? . . . It felt like I was under a curse, honestly. I was stuck. And it didn't look like I was ever going to get out."

Welch has just completed a nationwide book tour. A solo album is in the works for 2008.

mr. Welch, remove that beard and put some decent clothes on yourself while you're being interviewed!!! and take some sleep at night and don't do drugs! even men of God should care about how they look...

I totally agree, this guy is nuts, I've read his book and honestly if you want to read some funny shit this is it. He honestly thinks that GOD talks to him, like not in the he showed me a sign kinda thing but directly talks to him, tells him what to do and this guy doesn't have alot of money anymore, in the book he talks about how he gave most of it away to different "churchs" and people who wanted him to be around. I mean also, it's not like he's on mainstream tv preaching, he's on the 700 club, that's what those people do, is take money and tell you how things will be better if you give them money, so i mean yeah the guy has lost it all, but you can't take him as the poster child for a religion, cus last time i check, Jesus on a cross was the poster child for that cause.

Welch, I'm fucking sick of you, and so is everyone else.

Why you "walked away" from Korn (as opposed to just saying "I left" since it's so much more fucking dramatic the first 500 times) is that you did more drugs than anyone else, and then blamed everyone else for dragging YOU down. Fuck off and die.

Spoiled rich bastard.

People from EVERY walk of life have drug problems.
Its not the band, its him. But doing the "god" thing,he doesnt have to face himself, just cry out a bunch of god this god that.
But hey, trade one addiction for another, healthy move.

The only good reason to leave Korn is because, well, its Korn, and they pretty much suck as bad as a band can now.

You may not like his new-found religion, but most musicians would have just kept on doing meth and playing Korn shows regardless of what happened to their kid. You may hate where he is now, but leaving a very successful band and quitting a drug like meth in order to raise his kid in a healthy environment takes balls and isn't easy no matter who you are or how much money you have.

My view is that religion was a good IDEA that was executed very
poorly. I personally do not put my faith in a STORY that was written a few thousand years ago by a group of men that weren't even there but I do believe in "To each his own". So if the guy wants to take speed (do you believe he quit that easily?) & talk to god then so be it. But we all know that he's not getting that rock star money by the truckloads anymore so it's gotta run out sometime & he sure as hell won't come back, because that would make him a hypocrite (more so than he is now)
