WITHIN TEMPTATION Shines With 'Heart', SLAYER Fails To Make A Dent With 'Christ' Reissue - Aug. 1, 2007
WITHIN TEMPTATION's "The Heart of Everything" sold 7,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 106 on The Billboard 200 chart. The Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal band's first U.S. release for Roadrunner Records, "The Heart of Everything" has also topped the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

In other chart news, SLAYER's much-hyped re-release of the "Christ Illusion" album has failed to make a dent, having shifted a little over 2,300 copies since being reissued on July 24 through Columbia Records. This brings the total number of "Christ Illusion" copies sold in the U.S. to approximately 172,000.

SLAYER's "Christ Illusion" reissue contains the previously unreleased cut "The Final Six", as well as an alternate version of "Black Serenade". It also boasts a bonus DVD called "Slayer on Tour '07" which includes the "Eyes of the Insane" video; a live rendition of the band's 1988 LP track "South of Heaven" that was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, on last year's "Unholy Alliance" run; and a behind-the-scenes, five-minute documentary-style montage of footage shot earlier this year when the band performed in Florida and Australia.

i think they actually removed the original version of the black serenade from the reissue, and the dvd is like 15-20 minutes long. the cd is only ~45 minutes long, they coulda at least kept the original track with the 35 minutes they had left on the cd

I love Slayer but man this is a great lesson in hubris. You can't re-issue a current cd and expect people to buy it like it's NEW. Columbia just lost some money and Slayer are now on high alert...Metallica is ready to welcome you into their has been club. bring your own booze, Kerry.

This reissue shit is getting out of control. If I didn't buy an album last year, I'm probably not going to buy it this year.

By the way this has nothing to do with the news story but I saw a hilarious shirt the other day that said " I wish my grass was emo becuase then it would cut itself!"

Kreator did a re-release of their current album, Enemy Of God, and it is a worthwhile re-release. Slayer's re-release is definately NOT!. The worth of the added tracks on both packages is debateable. However, for the DVD section, Kreator's DVD absolutely kicks ass while Slayer's sucks ass. Slayer's DVD is a total waste of a disc: 1. Bullshit behind the scenes medley; 2. Video could have been placed on the music disc as an enhance CD; 3. WFT! This is going to be on the DVD coming out soon so this is the BIGGEST waste of all. Kreator's DVD had: 1. more videos; 2. video footage from an entire show that is not going to be released in any other manner any time soon; 3. the entire album in 5.1 - if Slayer had done this last point with their re-release then it would have a much better product. As is, the only cool thing about the CI re-release is the cover...

What sucks about the re-issue of the CI cd is the dvd. It's only about 15 minutes long! That is freakin short, that I expected more on the dvd than the bonus track.

You have a point, the production/mix of Christ Illusion sucks, be it the result of overcompression during the final mastering or not. As far as I'm concerned, every Slayer album after Seasons In The Abyss sucks from a production standpoint: it lacks the amazing talents of Andy Wallace as co-producer/mixer (Rick Rubin & "'tallica", take notes).

In case Andy Wallace is too occupied for another collaboration with Slayer, Dave Lombardo should give his old Grip Inc. bandmate Waldemar Sorychta a call, one of the best metal producers/ engineers/ mixers out there. And while we're at it, Waldemar should co-write Slayer's next album. Oh, and play some guitar solos, too.

I'm fed up with the re-release phenom... Maybe one of these days the music companies will decide to quit pissing on the music fans, and both groups will benefit. Until then, I guess they can just keep on suing us to try & make money...

BTW - I also really liked the new WT album. Love Sharon's vocals.

Why don't they actually put something good on the DVD instead of wasting everyone's time. This "reissue" should have been the original CD with the actual "reissue" containing entire concerts (they filmed the entire Download set anyone?) and some kind of inflatable mallet. Also they could have waited oh about ten years or something?

Shit numbers. Even with that most of it is pure hype. It debuted at like #6 and sold a lot of copies, {then fell down to forty-something in the next week} without that it would have sold considerably less.

I got Dragonforces latest cd and then they come out with a reissue w/ one extra song. A good deal or not? Paying for a cd and then paying for the cd again for one extra song? That's paying twice as much as you did the first time for 2 times as much material? No. Only one extra song and a small dvd. And then I would have 2 discs. What would I do with the 2nd disc, sell it? Let's see, sell it at the local used cd store for 5 bux. So you take a loss however you look at it.

I buy the Nightwish 2 cd live 'End of an era' for 15 bux. Could'nt get the dvd. Wasn't out yet in NTSC format. Well, now they put it out now (Nuclear Blast) I want the dvd in addition to the cd. What should I do? Pay for the cd/dvd? Then for the price of 30.oo I could have an extra cd that I wouldn't need! Geniuses! I'm so stupid that I haven't fallen for it!

But we all know metal doesn't sell in america. Who cares, I bought my copy and love it.
Within Temptation sell a lot to the emo crowd, fuck them and their fans, they're just a fad and will disappear. Slayer will carry on as much as they want to.
