BLACK TIDE Too Young For OZZFEST - Aug. 5, 2007
Miami, Florida-based hard rock band BLACK TIDE (formerly RADIO) won't be replacing CIRCUS DIABLO on Ozzfest after all. Turns out the band has been removed from the billing of this year's traveling festival because its members are not old enough to drink Jägermeister, which is sponsoring Ozzfest's second stage.

Commented the group in a posting on its MySpace page: "A few days ago we got the news that Ozzfest would like for us to join the rest of the tour, playing on the second stage. The bags were packed, the RV was ready to go, and we had just eight hours before we were leaving for the tour. Then, Jägermeister decided that since we were underage, they couldn't allow us to play on their stage. We had the support of Live Nation and Ozzfest, but because Jägermeister owns the second stage, we can't play. Sorry that we got anyone’s hopes up and we feel terrible about this whole ordeal."

BLACK TIDE recently completed work on its debut album with producer Johnny K (DISTURBED, MACHINE HEAD, SOIL). The CD is scheduled for release in early 2008 via Interscope Records.

BLACK TIDE is:

Gabriel Garcia (age 14) – Vocals/Guitar
Alex Nunez (age 17) - Guitar
Zachary Sandler (age 18) - Bass
Steven Spence (age 19) - Drums

Oh, but Jägermeister has no problem advertising it's product to the Ozzfest audience - many of whom are underage.

No, you can not play on a stage we are sponsering, but please be sure to buy our product.

Thank you...come again.

There's a band called Killing Chapel who can shred just as good as Kerry King, and their average age is 18.

My band gets fucked with the same stuff. All but one member in my band is of age, the other being 17. There are some towns we can't even play in anymore because the promoters are stuck only being able to do 19+ shows, and for some reason they cannot allow the younger member in. Many places we play they will X off the under agers' hands and allow them, to enjoy the show...it sucks when bands with the talent and drive to be out there entertaining people get fucked by circumstance.

that's stupid.

I can remember a 19 year old Dimebag Darrel playing the bars when Texas raised the drinking age to 21 (I was the only one in the club the night the drinking age went up, Pantera was playing). No one told him he couldn't play- they just marked him as underage.

jager made a smart move... Now, of course you want everybody to use your product. However, supporting underage kids isn't exactly a wise idea. This bill already sucks enough and I don't think these toddlers are the answer. For that matter, neither is Devildriver. Hope to see Nile, Behemoth, LOG, and Ozzy headline elsewhere. It is not at all worth getting sunburnt to watch to many shitty bands. Wow, I got way off topic. Anyway, good move by Jager.

ThrashMe said it perfectly: This should have been found out before even considering the band. That is the most fucked up thing I've heard in a long time regarding metal. Way to get the kids' hopes up and then stomp them into the ground, assholes. FUCKING EIGHT HOURS BEFORE LEAVING?! That is rediculous.

You know what would be really cool, if Ozzy stepped up and said let the kids play... like that would happen. But in retrospect, they're on Interscope, so it's not like a chance for playing on a big tour won't come around again. Right???

There has to be a different reason behind this..

Age yes.
Fair enough, Underage people sponsered by jager. Thats a no.
I bet the musicians on the second stage will get free jager and be around it back stage as well. That may have been another reason to the refusal.

Drinking laws in America are ridiculous. None of that shit here in Europe. I certainly don't regret moving to Europe, where death metal shows are packed with people of ALL ages.

I don't understand how you can be 18 to vote or go get yourself killed in war, yet you have to be 21 to drink a bit of Jack Daniels!

Am I the ONLY person on this site who DOESN'T think these guys are that good?

I mean sure, FOR THEIR AGE they are a decent band, but NONE of their stuff is inventive or original. The age of their singer is a gimmick and nothing more.

You guys all bash the shit out of Trivium because they were/are young and came up as a "screamo" band, but now that they play thrash you won't even give them a snowball's chance in hell.

THIS band puts up a ridiculously generic "throwback metal" song and most of you goons are eating it with a spoon.

I'm not here to start shit, but damn guys... I can't believe how many of you are trying to say this is really good.

I can take you to Chicago and show you 15 bands per night in 15 different venues that sound like this or better and many of them will be roughly the same age.

As fucked as I think this is, I'm sure Jager's reasons were strictly legal/PR based and not personal. On the other hand, Alcohol companies sponsor car racing. "Don't Drink and Drive...This message brought to you by the Budweiser Racing Team!"

This situation is probably going to do more for them than the tour would have anyway.

I remember Slitheryn... Didn't Corey Taylor produce one of their albums or an E.P. or something?

And yeah, I'm not bashing any of you guys... I mean sure, it is bullshit that the kids can't play, I'm just saying... If you're really honest about the music, it's cool, but it's not THAT cool.

It's very run-of-the-mill.

My band are all between 19-22 and we have problems sometimes with sponsorships, but never in bars. They mark the hands of the underage guys and let us play the show. Promoting alcohol would be different though...

They got kicked out the second stage fine. Ozzy stepped up and fucked over Jager and put them to open in the MAINSTAGE. They deserve it.

Radio is what music is been missing for a couple of years now. They're bringing out the old school guns. I agree with some of you that the song they have up is a little cliché. But fuck I have a demo of them cause I personally know the singer and guitarist.. anyways, other songs from them such as Black Widow and Show Me The Way fucking own the ass of many other bands that are just pure shit. You can't judge a band by ONLY ONE SONG. And even more when it's not even one of they're stepped up ones. Don't fucking hate on Radio because a 14 year old kid has more talent in one hand that what you may have in your whole fucking body.
