OZZFEST Deaths In Holmdel: Video Report Available - Aug. 17, 2007
CBS 2 HD's Christine Sloan has filed a two-and-a-half-minute video report on the deaths of two concert-goers who attended the Ozzfest 2007 show at the PNC Bank Arts Center Thursday night (August 16) in Holmdel, New Jersey. Watch the report at this location.

Patrick Norris, 24, of Coram, and 27-year-old Raymond Guarino, of Forked River, were identified as the two victims, whose deaths are believed to be drug and alcohol related. Paramedics were initially able to resuscitate Guarido after he fell unconscious, but he later died at a local hospital.

Both had passed out during the show.

"From what I heard it was a combination of drugs, alcohol, and caffeine ... in the one death. I'm not aware of the second one that happened late last night," said Joe Orlando, a spokesman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, which owns the land the venue sits on.

Officials say last night more than 80 people were arrested for underage drinking and drug possession. More than 200 people have been arrested during shows at the venue over the past 10 days.

So is blabbermouth gonna start posting about negative news at EVERY concert or is this just a biased attack on ozzfest?

When you put large numbers of people together, shit happens. These and other deaths being related to Ozzfest have nothing to do with Ozzfest. People are wont to chase after what they will and, if that includes getting too fucked up - so be it.

The 15 year old girl who died in a car crash while on her way to an Ozzfest show - people die every day in such incidents. The guy who was hit and killed by a truck while leaving an Ozzfest show - that also is a commonplace accident killing people every day.

Of course it makes for good press to mention and associate hevy metal and OzzY in particular where people are negativly impacted by life in general.

It seems to me Blabbermouth posts the negative concert stories that make it to the more conventional news sources. Ozzfest just happens to be something most people have heard of so anything wrong makes the news and in turn, Blabbermouth.

There have been at least six posts in the last two days reporting about accidents that that did NOT occur at ozzfest (people on thier way to it) and drug busts. SO unless no one got busted sneaking a joint into a concert that wasnt ozzfest or no one was involved in an accident on the way to any other concerts, I see a hidden agenda by posting this shit as if its relevent music news.

Why is there always a hidden agenda? Blabbermouth posts stuff all the time that isn't exactly "metal" or "rock" related - but nobody every notices it unless a big name is attached to it. Kinda hypocritical, don't you think?

You slam this site for posting news that shouldn't be related to Ozzfest but, odds are, the reason you read the story is because the name "Ozzfest" is there. If you don't like a story, don't read it - seems pretty simple to me.

I digress, this is an awful tragedy but at the same time these guys should have known better. What's worse, you have to assume they had friends there and they did nothing either. Nobody deserves to die needlessly, but these guys were mixing stuff that shouldn't be mixed and they were just taking too many risks. They paid the ultimate price for their gambling.

THIS IS A POLICE COVERUP!

At all the last few metal shows at PNC, the cops have been arresting people left and right. They've been beating people who do not do everything they yell at them to do. This is a serious problem at PNC Bank Arts Center where all shows that draw metal or under 30 crowds become a police compound. They treat you (regardless of your age) like you are a criminal. The police probably took these people in the back and beat them. Probably from exhustion and heat, they died. I don't doubt it for a second.

I've witnessed it happening and it can happen to you too.

I just want to drop a line and say underage drinking arrests have been like crazy at PNC. I live about 15 minutes from it and it seems every show is in the paper with a ton of underage drinking, false drivers licenses and crap like that. Ozzfest is def not the main reason why drinking is banned in teh parking lot. Friends of mine were at one of the shows there last week and said it was a mess. People who looked 16 were puking and passing out everywhere. Cops set up check points you had to go through to leave the venue. This was def not just because of ozzfest it has been on going.

The media is not a fan of metal, therefore it is natural that they would use these "incidents" as a medium to attack a metal festival.

As much as i hate seeing shit like this, i cant help but express my frustration with the stupidity of some people.

COMMENT | The reason why we're seeing so many negative OZZfest...

posts is probably due to that fact that the show is free this year. Gods forbid that our nations youth should be allowed to assemble somewhere, have a good time and do it for free without "somebody" somewhere getting a little on the nervous side about it.

Blabbermouth isn't strictly behind all of this negative press. He gets his news from other sources and he credits them in the posts as I'm sure you've all noticed. What it is, is an "anonymous" machine out there (Big Brother if you will) setting things up so that the press is picking up on more of the negative side of things this year to make the festival look worse than previous years because it's free this year. That way next year Sharon and the bands won't be able to pull off getting any promoters and the whole thing either goes back to being try to buy your tickets in an economy where no one can even afford to drive around the block or it totally goes bust and... *waves* bye bye OZZfest.

*Sighs and rolls eyes at all the idiots that cheer the idea of the end of OZZfest.* Just because YOU want it gone, doesn't mean that the rest of us that DO enjoy it can't be left to mourn it's demise in peace.

i was there, had a blast, met a ton of the bands and others at the show..everyone seemd to be well behaved n having a great time..
as with any show if you dont drink water n cool down a bit and just wanna drink booze n do drugs or whatever..take a break at times and drink some water n shit, damn i partied also but am smart enough to know when to say when n still be able to enjoy the whole show n drive the hell home...as for the cops there ,they came over to out convoy of veh, checked id's n asked to keep the booze in cups n that was it ,cool as hell they were even after the show we hung out n the cops were still being cool..and we hung out for like an hr or more after the show..
the whole point is if your gonna be a asshole n not take responsiblity for your actions ,then you should not be allowed to go to these things..you ruin it for everyone else..
so sadly 2 peeps lost there lives..rip..but not from the fault of anyone but there own ,not pnc ,not ozzfest, not the cops..
as for the other 80 or so people that got arrested..well they didnt use there heads either becuse you can party n whatnot n still have a good time, just dont be jerk n shit if you can handle it dont do it ..
thanks to ozzy n sharon ,all the bands and other celebs that were about the show for all the hosptitality n stuff..
