METALLICA: Multi-Cam Footage From Wembley Stadium With Soundboard Audio Available
- Aug. 28, 2007
Two clips from METALLICA's July 8, 2007 concert at the Wembley Stadium in London, England have surfaced, featuring a multi-camera fan-filmed video mix and audio that was synched up to the music from the official LiveMetallica web site. Watch the footage below.
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield recently told Kerrang! magazine that producer Rick Rubin wants them to make an album as good as "Master of Puppets".
"On 'St Anger', [producer] Bob Rock did everything," said Hetfield. "He was producer, engineer, bass player, babysitter, father figure — and Rick Rubin is pretty much the opposite, he's not there to babysit. When he first came in, his opening statement was 'I want you guys to impress me: I want you to feel like you're starting out again'. He really wants us to get in the mind-set of 'Master of Puppets'. It's impossible to recreate what we were 20 years ago, it's silly, but we had to get that hunger back."
In a recent interview with Norway's NRK, Hetfield stated about the band's collaboration with Rubin, "Rick Rubin is extremely good at getting the best out of any artist he's worked with, whether it's BEASTIE BOYS, NEIL DIAMOND, SLAYER, SLIPKNOT… he does all, he does rap… anything! Somehow he taps in. He's got a good vibe, and a good ear, and we think we do too. So sometimes there's a little bit of this — we like our things the way we like them, he likes his things the way he likes them — but with two great powers putting something together, I think we'll come up with something pretty amazing. He's having us focus a lot on the feeling around 'Master of Puppets' — what was going through our minds? what was it like? — the hunger around 'Master of Puppets'."

They really do sound great nowadays. Lets hope the new album will be half as good as MoP. That'll do for me.
COMMENT | It does sound good yes but..... posted by : Guitarman187 8/28/2007 9:03:51 PM
LARS SUCKS....i won't say anything else than this: Go back and pay attention to the drumming, it speaks for itself. If you listen to it again and still think it sounds good, then it's obvious who doesn't know the first the about what sounds good or keeping a beat for that matter. I am not being negative, i am just stating the obvious truth.

james voice has certainly been better as of lately, Im glad he got rid of the "yodel". Now lets complete that album, boys, and do a fucking rockin north american tour!!!!!!!
Whiplash-- pay no mind to the naysayers, they will always be here trolling for negativity to get a rise out of you. Half of them havent hit puberty and their balls are years away from dropping

Sorry but it's true and I'm a fan. Lars makes countless mistakes on both songs and he can't keep the tempo. Kirk's playing is as unclean as always. GREAT. Metallica were never good musicians from a technical point of view (Their bassists being the exceptions to the rule) and I never cared about that, BUT: Where is the rage, the fire, the REBELLION? Nowhere. James's vocals are tired and soft....CRAP. I've seen and heard much better Metallica performances. I hope the new album's good though, I like Vulturus.
PS: Playing mainly pre-black album stuff shows how much they believe in their latest albums and how good they think such "masterpieces" are.

I can respect your opinion, I feel lars has lost a step recently. hopefully he can gain a couple in this next album.
I dont think he 'sucks', personally i think he is one of the best in the business. I wont always agree with his off-stage persona and the whole napster debacle but thats his choice
Awesome soundboard recording....sometimes they can be horribly dry but that was really good.

lars doesn't know his own songs.

I absolutely cannot agree more with the opinion that Lars is unbearable to listen to live. Please hit a 1 and a 2 every once in awhile. Speeds up, slows down, speeds way up...come one, you've been playin these songs for 20 years. And the vocals..wow. While I will admit they have improved, there are still terrible pitch changes and yodels. Not a bash, just an opinion.

How is it possible to have played drums as long as has Lars, yet somehow grow progressivly worse?
That is just fucked.
I'm still looking forward to hearing the new album - hoping against all odds that it will rock ass incredible.
COMMENT | Extremely good mix... posted by : MetalCorporateAmerica 8/28/2007 10:55:56 PM
off the board - gotta give credit to the people putting the sound together. It certainly is popular to bash Metallica, but I have to say that I've seen them 6 times from 1988 - 2005, and they always put on a very good live show.
That being said, that drumming was shakier than a Haitian Space Shuttle. With Kirk, maybe not every single note was perfect, but hey, it is quick and challenging stuff, especially at concert tempo...but seriously, what's up with drumming? Instead of acting as a metronome, seems more '75 Econoline Van with a sticky throttle and bent tie rods - accelerating, slowing and all over the road... maybe it was a "monitor issue".

what almost everyone is saying. Great sounding performance, but Lars is not what he once was. Kirk, well...Kirk is Kirk, Jaymz doesn't have the voice he had in the nineties b/c he's getting old; they're all getting old. Face it. Some ppl age better then others, and good ole ('cuse the pun) is about average in that category. Just give me one good last album, that's all I ask.

As someone who has been a MetallicA fanatic for about 15 years, I must say that I dont think I have heard them play this good live since the Load tour. I am very impressed by how much they have stepped it up. I think after nearly losing it all, they truly appreciate how much fun and how important for the fans it is to play well live. Thats who they are. They were a touring band back when, they are a touring band now and forever more.
I cannot wait for the new album. I have not been this excited since waiting for Load to come out.

Sounds good here, but if you listen to the Denmark show (free download on Metallica's site) his voice sounds blown. Too much primal scream therapy. They sound much better than they did last year at Rock am Ring.

For all of the people who think Metallica "still got it", you can check it for yourselves. We have posted videos of Creeping Death and Master of Puppets. Watch them. Then get out Binge & Purge and watch the same 2 songs from the '89 Seattle show. The results should be clear.
There. No insults aimed at the band or any of you.

I bought the Binge and Purge box set in 1994. I have seen more times than I can count. Does it have a different feel to it, sure. Of course that was 1989 when they were 26/27 years old!!! Flash forward nearly 20 years and I think for what kinda music they play, I think they still sound powerful and dominant.
Just my opinion bro. But I totally respect it, if you feel different.
My god, what is with all the love and reason here. Am I on Blabbermouth???

MOP, lol, Kirk sounds like a hungover Dave Murray and Hetfields 'HEEEEELLLLL YYEEEAHHHHH' is gold, the drums are so fucking sloppy. Seriously if they were good I would say it, I would swallow my pride and accept that Metallica had gotten it together, but no their just a self parody.

How can you compare Live shit to to this? live shit was tweaked to hell, didnt you see the headbangers ball evening on it back when it was released, they showed them replacing drums hits duff notes etc etc
But! yes they had more energy back then but i was at Wembley and i can safely say it was imense, Hetfield voice is better (not 92 standard but better!) and Kirk is less sloppy (but still needs to practice), i didnt really notice Lars fcuk up that night but i know he aint the best but his drumming makes metallica, and his personality and vision has got them to the top of the tree, without him i doubt the drive would have been there...end
p.s allot of people seem to be jealous of the money, get over it i wish i was a millionaire rock star with shit loads of art lol

Not really, Steve Harris has earned his fare share of money with Iron Maiden, but how can I not respect him as a person and as a musician? No 'Arry bashing from me - Lars on the other hand...
