METALLICA: Finnish TV Interview With LARS ULRICH Posted Online
- Aug. 30, 2007
A video interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich conducted by Finland's Musiikki TV prior to the band's July 15, 2007 concert in Helsinki has been posted on YouTube. Watch the footage — which originally aired on August 27 — in four parts below (Note: The clips include several of METALLICA's promotional videos).
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield recently told Kerrang! magazine that producer Rick Rubin wants them to make an album as good as "Master of Puppets".
"On 'St Anger', [producer] Bob Rock did everything," said Hetfield. "He was producer, engineer, bass player, babysitter, father figure — and Rick Rubin is pretty much the opposite, he's not there to babysit. When he first came in, his opening statement was 'I want you guys to impress me: I want you to feel like you're starting out again'. He really wants us to get in the mind-set of 'Master of Puppets'. It's impossible to recreate what we were 20 years ago, it's silly, but we had to get that hunger back."
In a July 2007 interview with Norway's NRK, Hetfield stated about the band's collaboration with Rubin, "Rick Rubin is extremely good at getting the best out of any artist he's worked with, whether it's BEASTIE BOYS, NEIL DIAMOND, SLAYER, SLIPKNOT… he does all, he does rap… anything! Somehow he taps in. He's got a good vibe, and a good ear, and we think we do too. So sometimes there's a little bit of this — we like our things the way we like them, he likes his things the way he likes them — but with two great powers putting something together, I think we'll come up with something pretty amazing. He's having us focus a lot on the feeling around 'Master of Puppets' — what was going through our minds? what was it like? — the hunger around 'Master of Puppets'."

If the new Metallica album sound as good as last Megadeth, I will be very happy, cause United Abominations rules, and I didn't like none of the new songs played by Metallica recently, despite they told that these songs will not be in the album. I want to hope for good...
compete with the new megadeth? u got to be kidding me? that cd sucks!!! metallica makes everything great, it might not be metal or w/e but everything metallica , makes is gold (cept for st anger)
Don't cross your fingers too hard waiting for a great Metallica album, you'll end up hurting yourself.

"Best cd of 2008. Bar None."
"Bar none"?
A New Testament album will come out in 2008, dimwit.
I bow down to no one - if current "'tallica" release another good Metallica album, they'll regain some of my (and others) respect as songwriters and musicians, no more no less.

I don't want a rehash of Metallica yesteryears to show up on this album. I want a whole new Metallica one that wil deliver the GOODS. Metallica have the ability to carve out a new legacy one that people(or should I say Metallica fans ) will proud of. Cut the crap LARS and the painting shit and do what you do best participate the best metal band this world has ever seen

Sorry guys, we wouldn't post anything if we didn't love metallica at heart, but all you have to do is listen to one song from each record in a row and realize that James Hetfields voice is DEAD. His voice officially died post black album - people always talk as if there is some mystery to why metallica isn't making good albums but is still good live, and it's because his ailing voice is hidden well. You can't sing like he used to forever without paying the price. Same is true for Korn, chris cornell, phil anselmo, the list goes on. It doesn't help that they also started writing shitty songs.
COMMENT | Metallica will always be better posted by : stygiansteve 8/31/2007 1:12:37 PM
Look the new Megadeth is good and Dave is a great guitar player but in the end he is never going to write songs like James does. The new Metallica or any Metallica will always be better than Megadeth because Metallica is and always will be the best. I'm not a yes man Metallica can't do wrong fan because trust me I'm not happy with a lot of things I hear live aka Lars half playing classic drum beats but when it comes to albums, it's hands down going to be any album that James is involved with. Dave knows this thats why he was still upset in 2003 in SKOM about not being in Metallica.

That was fucking funny dude.
If they created something like Master Of Puppets and Larz the human douche would shut the fuck up,I WOULD stop hating. I feel like crying every time I hear Orion, for Christ's sake.
+1 on Metallica album being best album of 2008. That's just the way it is. I know Anti-Metallica groupies want Metallica to fail, but probably won't happen.
If it does, not good for metal world.
COMMENT | Lars looks more and more like Steve Hardy! posted by : Mascot 9/9/2007 4:32:26 PM
He looked similar in '86 - now they could be brothers.
