DOWN: Three New Songs Posted Online - Sep. 15, 2007
Three new DOWN songs — "N.O.D.", "Never Try" and "I Scream" — have been posted on the group's MySpace page. "I Scream" is also available for streaming at this location (Windows Media). All three cuts come off DOWN's new album, "III - Over the Under", which will be released in the U.S. on September 25 through ILG/Warner Music Group (one day earlier internationally via Roadrunner Records).

DOWN is the acclaimed New Orleans band featuring CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, drummer Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD, SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist), bassist Rex Brown (ex-PANTERA), guitarist Kirk Windstein (CROWBAR), and vocalist Philip Anselmo (SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PANTERA). The group will embark on a North American headlining tour beginning late September.

"III - Over the Under" (view cover artwork at Amazon.com) track listing:

01. 3 Suns And 1 Star
02. The Path
03. N.O.D
04. I Scream
05. On March The Saints
06. Never Try
07. Mourn
08. Beneath The Tides
09. His Majesty The Desert
10. Pillamyd
11. In The Thrall Of It All
12. Nothing In Return (Walk Away)

The LP will also be issued in Europe as a limited-edition digipack CD featuring the bonus track "Invest in Fear".

DOWN performed the song "I Scream" during the group's headlining appearance at the Roseland in New York City on March 31, 2007. Watch a video clip of the performance below.

Album of the year 1996! sadly we're closing in on 08. Im not hating on the band...just speaking the truth. I hate to say it but this album will only appeal to Anselmo fans. The dudes work is legendary but he has had nothing to offer this century and over the under only confirms it.

Give me shit all you want its only my prediction. Im sorry its just too old school. Seriously I think the band and album are cool...Im just being honest.

But, there needs to be more of a negative vibe like their prior albums. To kick you emotionally, musically. per say. I guess it's not nearly as "doomy". I was listening to Floodgate alot, so that factors alot of my expectations. It's still a great release for 07.

Seriously, phil is not washed op, he just changed style..and I dig it..although it was uncomfortable in the beginning (the process of adapting it), but I just love it..

I downloaded the entire album, (will buy it the 25th, don;t; worry) and it is a killer album..bluesy, heavy, energetic, beautifull and real

In my opinion it is a mix between sabbath and audioslave (the cornell part), but better

This is exactly what I was hoping it would be. how creative can you be when all you can think about its your pain and addiction.. Now that Phil is clean and healthy the man is now the best shape mentally and physically he could be.

His singing is beautifully soulfull and not slurred and muddied by a head full of junk.

Thank you Down for this will be a cherished and loved album by me. I'll be very proud to own this.

III is like Black Zepplin or Led Sabbath, pure and heavy! ;)

Some people compare it to Audioslave, but that's just the song "on march the saints" and I would say it remembers me more of Soundgarden. But on the other side, Soundgarden was influenced by Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin, so the other way around it still seams to be really pure. It's like a 70's heavy rock album and so were some good bands of the 90's, Down was one of them and they still have it.

Over the Under is absolutely anti-modern music. It's back to the roots - music, taking the music back to a time where the bands were playing music to express their feelings instead of following trends. It's the absolute opposite to these modern Emo-/MetalCore-Bullshit Bands, where every band sounds equal, so was Nu-Metal some years ago.

By the way, this does not mean III wouldn't have some kick-ass parts. "Pillamyd" kicks so much ass, unbelievable! Can't wait to hear it in a better quality-version, mp3 sucks!

They're not a metalcore band. It's retro-heavy, not "I can play a million notes a second and shred out my vocal cords" heavy. If that's what you want, go listen to any one of the hundreds of generic, worthless new metal bands and shut your mouths about this one.

i like the new stuff; sounds like the Down we all know and love. Its kinda hard to really progress in the style of music that they play. I know they told us it would be heavy and all that, but what did you guys expect? Blast beats and cookie monster-vocals? haha

anyways, I LOVE this type of music. It just moves me in a way nothing else can, 'cept maybe thrash...

It's a Down record, which means big southern-fried riffs and melody. If you guys want a new Pantera or Super-crap Ritual screamo record keep looking. I think Anselmo sounds the best he's sounded since the Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar records. Yes, folks, those were the records where he actually did some SINGING.

All four songs I've heard so far are better than anything I heard on Down II when Phil was a doped up mess.

Down is by far the best fucking band out there as far as straight up, bad ass, song writing goes. They sound nothing like your Metalcore, Mall core, what ever the fuckin Shadows Fall, Killswitch, or whoever is at the top of all that New Wave Of Metal movement. I personally don't really get into all that stuff. Down just brings so much more to the table for me. I won't call anyone a douche for not digging on Down, because they obviously aint' for everybody. But for myself, Down is the standard for music today. For MetalBeer666, I'll need a full fucking report on the T-town show, because I'm still stuck in the war. Down/Metallica World Tour '08. Sounds pretty much as I would have expected, which is not a bad thing. Phil does sound much better than he has in quite some time. Obviously when they said that the music was goint to be heavy they did not mean that it was going to be a death metal album by any means. It has more of a old school hard rock approach to it, more like Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple ect. This was not meant to sound like a Slayer album, and anyone who may have thought otherwise has apparently never heard any of this bands prior work.
