PUDDLE OF MUDD's SCANTLIN Says VAN HALEN Rehearsal Was 'Incredible'
- Sep. 20, 2007
PUDDLE OF MUDD's Wes Scantlin was among the 500 or so friends, fans and celebrities who attended the final VAN HALEN tour rehearsal on Sunday night (September 16) in Los Angeles. OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Zakk Wylde reportedly tried to climb onstage two songs into the band's performance, but was rebuffed by singer David Lee Roth, who said, "Nah, nah, nah. Are you in show biz? Then get off the stage. Get off the fucking stage.' The object of Wylde's quest, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, came over and spoke to Wylde, who then staggered back down.
Wes Scantlin gave The Pulse of Radio his own personal report on the night's events: "The VAN HALEN experience was incredible. I felt like I was all like a 12 or 13-year-old kid again, watching them for the first time. They all looked really, really good, man, and they were all playing really, really well. I don't know how Eddie does half that stuff on the guitar. David Lee Roth was, you know, he was being Dave, man, and it was really, really cool. If you wanted to see VAN HALEN with David Lee Roth again, man, this is your chance. They were rocking it hardcore."
Video footage of the Zakk Wylde incident can be viewed below.
The tour, which starts on September 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina, will be the first to feature Roth in the lineup since 1985.
Also attending the final VAN HALEN tour rehearsal Sunday night were METALLICA axeman Kirk Hammett and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello, among others.

For those that said it'd never happen...better pull out those ice skates; the devil is building an ice rink.
Proud to say I have great seats to both the Charlotte and G'boro shows. Originally it was a hedge of sorts...I figured I'd get to see 'em do it for the first time and THEN be a witness to the climactic fistfight during the 2nd show.
After watching these clips, however, I'm confident it'll go at least 3 shows before imploding. I could give fuck all, though...NC will definitely get the good, bad, and (hopefully not) ugly.

Thanks to Dave Roth for putting that candy-coated scrotum sack Quack Wylde back in his place. Stay off the stage and do some more steriods, you untalented, nut sniffer.

that he is a stupid drunk retard. VH is putting on a special showcase, who the hell is he to be climbing on stage. Dave (as big a retard he is in his own right) has every right to tell him to get the fuck off stage.
glad that DLR told Zackass Wylde to get off the stage. Who the fuck thinks this guy is? "Hey, I'm the viking-looking-asshole who plays with Ozzy, so that entitles me to get the red carpet treatment, and even to disturb the rehearsals from other musicians......" Very disrespectul behavior, besides, he should be watching and learning from a real guitar player like EVH, fucking drunk bastard....

He's not in the band anymore. Get over it. Neither is Sammy. If you don't like it, don't go! It's as simple as that. Ed wants to play with his kid, bottom line. It's his band, he can do what he wants. I will miss Mike as much as the next guy but I think Wolfie will do OK from the clips I've seen. It will still be the party of the year, with or without Mike. I was worried about Dave needing an upgrade for 2007, but it looks like he's got it together. And let's be honest, Dave was never known for perfect vocals. He was always flash over perfection. Having said that, it sounds like he is singing better than ever. At least he's not forgetting the words like he used to!

Why be so fuckin hard on Zakk Wylde? That guy is a badass who has much more respect for his fans than DLR or EVH. I like DLR & EVH, I own all their albums & even have a few T-Shirts, but call it like it is.

COMMENT | Sammy & Mike, Zakk & Van Halen posted by : bangus_young 9/21/2007 9:08:10 AM
Ya know, I think everybody all agrees that Mike is going to be missed, but he's not irreplaceable... Sammy Hagar is a good singer/songwriter, but he doesn't fit in Van Halen. The stuff they did in Van Hagar wasn't to par of the stuff that they did with Van Halen (Roth). The Roth years had much better and stronger song writing. Plus, back then, Eddie was a guitar GOD... He inspired a whole generation of players. When he was with Hagar, did you hear anybody ever say that his playing inspired them to play? Nope... With Hagar, he lost that credibility. So, I'm glad that they're back with Roth and going to continue on with new material.
Ok, now the Zakk Wylde thing. Eddie and Zakk are friends. It just looked to me like Zakk was getting excited and emotional over all this and he wanted to let Ed know. The whole, "Get off the stage" thing was DLR sctick. It's not like Dave would have done anything if Zakk didn't get off the stage.
I've listened to the live videos of the rehearsals and I think they are amazing. I think Wolfgang is going to do a really great job... He just needs to get a little stage presence. But... For God's sakes... He's 16 years old and it's his first band and it just so happens to be the biggest band in the world. Thats an amazing opportunity that I don't blame him for not passing up. Sure beats the hell out of paying your dues in little clubs.
If tickets were cheaper I would go for sure... But, times are tough and I'm going to have to skip this tour. I wish them the best of luck though, and if they come out with a new CD in the near future, I will buy it and not download it... I will show my support!
Congrats to the (New) Mighty Van Halen!

Looks like a lot of people don't know that Zakk is a huge fan of EVH. In fact, his one son has the name "Edward" as one of his middle names. Zakk is also an amazing guitarist in his own right. If you've not seen him live, either with Ozzy or Black Label Society, you're missing one hellish artist. Isn't Ozzy also known for having amazingly wicked guitar players in his band? Check out a BLS DVD, and watch Zakk's acoustic jam. phenomenal! Check out the acoustic wizardry of "TAZ" on the first BLS album. So he got drunk, pumped up, and got to see one of his idols up close at a private concert. Which one of you detractors out there wouldn't have done the same thing? Or worse, from what I've seen at many shows. Go ahead, keep throwing stones at glass houses. Long live Zakk! Can't wait for the next BLS disc.

Zakk Wylde could beat the shit out of David Lee Roth with one hand, while writing a better song than Dave could, with his other hand.
i mean there's no question Roth > Hagar.. but who gives a shit?
this tour will not last longer than one month.

I get a kick out of anyone who would make negative comments about this. Of course Dave got a little old but they sound great. It's an opinionated thing but my opinion is that Eddie is still the best guitar player in the world, Zakk Wylde still plays the same old riff over and over again when he's plugged in. I can't wait to see VH again with Diamond Dave.

Carlin would appreciate that one - of course its his line jackass.
Since your writings give the impression that you could be a so-called metal head full of knowledge on apparently one form of music only... you should at least be smart enough to realize that EVH is one - if not THE SINGLE BIGGEST INFLUENCE on Zach.

Sammy was dropped, and then Van Halen III came out, and then Eddie and company looked like fools.
plus Eddie lost even more crediblility after the '04 tour when he was a disgrace to rock and roll and made a fool out of himself by acting like one.
I wouldn't go back with my ex if he sleeped with someone else, but Eddie will do it three times, first with Dave then with Sammy and again with Dave.
This guy has problems next thing he will be back with Valerie, which would be a good thing!
So don't blame anything on anyone but the man that makes the decisions Eddie himself.

You got owned by Johnny Park. The only thing more pathetic than trying to sound so high and mighty passing off someone else's material as your own is trying to convice us you weren't obviously trying to do that once you got caught. "of course its his material jackass" - riiiiiggght. You should have either gone away quietly or just said, "you got me" - not start hurling insults because that just makes you look like even more of an idiot. Too bad because I agree with you that VH is one of the most influential rock bands since Zeppelin but lets let somebody with some credibility make that point so it has a chance of sticking.
obviously another youngster - the sense of humor has also gone by the wayside it seems -
my guess (likely accurate) - you aren't the type of guy who would sit around and rip (by "rip" I mean "say") - obviously everything needs to be disclosed on this site not - you could never rip off great movie lines with buddies one after the other could you... you would sit there and question someone or each other who said the line and what movie it was actually from. I don't even feel for you my man - some people have personality - and some just don't. sorry bro - I'm sure you guys are good at something - don't sweat it.
I'll bet you watched EVERY SINGLE FOOTBALL GAME TODAY THOUGH - lol

Doesn’t Dave own anymore clothes? He wore that same lame jacket since the news conference. I hope he at least washes it once in awhile. I am sure if it was not for the lack of money this tour would not have even got off the ground. Good luck boys and try to keep it together for all who paid 200.oo dollars for a cheap seat.
you are simply a fan honey - not a musician... so at least i now know where your lack of perspective and respect comes from for this band, its music and the musicians who created it all. Based on your childish statements - you also never knew someone personally with serious drug or alcohol addiction either - and that's sad because it ruins lives all the time and more people should understand that before shooting their mouths off.
in the end - you have your "opinion" and we all know what those are like - and everyone has one.
think back slightly if you can grlpwr (and the rest of the bashers)
VanHalen with Roth was THE BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD. THAT IS NOT DEBATEABLE - DLR then left the band... (why and for what is debateable) - so they were then forced to replace their lead singer with a new one and went on to become even bigger then they were before - when they were already THE BIGGEST SELLING ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD!!
So just FYI - NO OTHER BAND IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC HAS PULLED THAT OFF!! duh!! WAKE UP - HAVE SOME SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THEM even if you have never accomplished something on your own so you don't understand what it feels like - for that and only that do i have some sense of pitty for you.
So as always in this country (the greatest in the world) - you are afforded the luxury and the ability to voice an opinion - don't ever take that for granted - but its only that and never forget it... its just yours.
Me personally - I am not hanging on to anything - nor am I a "townie" - lmao (i luv that word)
I grew up in and around NYC - the biggest music market in the world - I have lived in many places around the US, Canada and Europe playing professional ice hockey and playing original music of all genres. From Iron Maiden to the Beatles to Zep to Pantera to CSNY to the DMB to R&B - I dig it all!!
Today my band plays in and around NYC almost every weekend - www.ourblackfriday.com - go bash it too baby, you know you want to!! Even if you like it - your female mind will not allow yourself to be objective at this point - you are in defense mode and any divorced male from this country understands what you are capable of when you are feeling that way - LOL - So take your best shot - you'll find something to rip on I'm sure - but we love to hear it so bring it baby - BRING IT!!
That's the beauty of music though - so many shades and styles - its now all for everyone. Millions of people love Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake - and 50Cent and The Dixie Chicks - literally MILLIONS!! How I just don't know - but they do!! And they all have an opinion as well on the subject. Its music - if you don't like it - listen to something else. But with your nieve words you have spouted - you sound like Ahmadenijad speaking at Columbia yesterday - again - NO PERSPECTIVE & BRAZENLY UNEDUCATED!! LOL
Now my opinion: As a musician and as a life-long fan of VH and so many other great bands - I am just very excited for the chance to see the 1st show - to see something AGAIN - that was and hopefully still is one of the most amazing live music experiences anyone could ever experience.
Sorry for the insults grlpwr - I am sure you have a sweet side as well - as do I - so we will agree to disagree.
I'll be there Thursday night and let you know what it was like since you are so interested... and I'll wait for the hate mail to come pouring in to the band site as well ;)~
I dare ya~
