UPDATE: DAYS OF THE NEW Frontman Unlikely To Land Gig With Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Members - Dec. 10, 2002
Contrary to a press release issued by the DAYS OF THE NEW camp suggesting that the group's founder, Travis Meeks, is the frontrunner for the vocalist position in the new band of former GUNS N' ROSES members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), Izzy Stradlin (guitar), and Matt Sorum (drums), a source close to ex-GNR camp has informed BLABBERMOUTH.NET that Meeks is unlikely to land the much-coveted slot, which remains unfilled at the present time.

Meeks, who is currently working on a new DAYS OF THE NEW album for an early 2003 release, is said to have put down his vocals over several tracks written by Slash and Co. as part of the auditioning process, but has not come up with anything that has caught the ear of the guitarist, who is said to have a very specific idea of what he is looking for.

The as-yet-unnamed band — who have been together since May — have already auditioned a number of well-known candidates, including ex-BUCKCHERRY frontman Joshua Todd, PSYCHOTICA's Pat Briggs, LIT's A. Jay Popoff and former NEUROTICA singer Kelly Shaefer.

Although Izzy is said to be involved in the writing process for the group's upcoming debut album, he will not be touring with the band, who have now officially recruited McKagan's LOADED bandmate Dave Kushner as a session guitarist for all live appearances in support of the CD.

Travis' talent should not be wasted on this "project". Days Of The New is the most underated band today. With a little publicity and marketing people would realize just how good they actually are. Anybody who likes "real" music should check out DOTN's Red album. The Project is just a bunch of has-beens who cannot cut it with out Axl Rose who a true rockstar!

PS - Roadrunner should free Jerry Cantrell!!!

If they wanna fail then go with Bach or some other has been.

If they wanna make a splash, go with Meeks.

Davy Vain.

Or, fuck, even better..

Remember that kid Sam who was on Different Strokes and Camp PeePee or whatever the fuck it was on Nickelodeon? Then he went on to front Bad4Good who released the smash hit single "Nineteen". That's who these clowns need to call. STAT.

For those of you who say Travis sux or worse than that, you need a little lesson on how to play, sing, write, produce and orchestrate your own band. I am happy that he is sticking to DOTN, he doesn't need to waste his time on something else. He is the consumate genius of our day and any band could profit from his insight. The naysayers are just either jealous or have never really sat down and listened to his music. Try #9 on the red or #11 I personally have never heard a bad DOTN song and dont think that I ever will. He has so much more to give then just an old band trying to revive their glory years! You dont think he is better than a limp cock, huh? Well then send some of that shit you are smoking to me because it must be the most potent GREEN! And I would love to have it for the Green album. Remember, Meeks is the SHIT, HEAT, MAN WHATEVER YOU CALL IT, BUT HE IS THE MOST UNDERRATED MUSICIAN OF OUR TIME!

COMMENT | I second that....Meeks is better than those ASS CLOWNS

GNR trying to revive their popularity. Their washed up, and they don't know what their doing. These are the guys that like AXL's voice may I remind you.

Meeks is the most underrated musician of our time.

Travis does not need to be wasting his ever so valualbe time with this "project." I love the fact that he is trying new things, but no one wants to see DOTN break up. they are the most underated kick ass band in the music business today. on with purple.

I have to admit first I was kind of happy when I thought Meeks was going to front the former GNR's. But then I thought how much control Meeks likes to have over his music and I'm sure the former GNR's would want to have the majority of control over their music as well. This project would also probably put a roadblock into Meeks albums coming out about every two years , which I quite enjoy. Hey maybe instead of Slash playing for Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson should come over and play with them since he seems to be faltering in the music business. In the end, the GNR and the Days camp are both talented, but they are very different kinds of talent. It wouldn't mesh together that well.

Any of you who think that meeks is the brilliant frontman haven't heard eddie vedder or creed or anyone else this guy is trying to sound like. 3 of the worst singers of all time. and furthermore, Bach can sing his ass off, so watch with the has been remarks buddy, or at least reference a good singer when knocking bas, not travis meeks...

When i heard that this Meeks guy was auditioning I thought I'd check him out. I'm a long standing GNR fan and must confess I've never heard Days Of The New, but fuck, I was pleasantly surprised to say the least and all three albums are currently being shipped though to me. he's a very VERY talented guy. They'd be lucky to land a guy with his vision. But both bands will be/are great, Meeks is maybe not the required style though. i'm still hoping Slash brings back Eric Dover, he had a great voice, they need that soulful voice as opposed to that post grunge vocal style. Mark Lanegan would be intersting. Eddie vedder though not to my taste has an undeniably great voice, very soulful, just something about it goes right through me. Creed are a pile of dog turd. Give Travis a bit of credit, go listen to his stuff with an open mind.

It doesnt matter who who they get as a singer.... unless they have axl, the band is gonna suck !!!!!!!

They are talented musicians, but they need a leader like Axl to motivate them and keep their head straight in the project that they were doin'...

everyone says that gnr died when Slash left.... fuck that !!!!
i really like Slash, dont get me wrong, but he did not make run gnr.... axl did... axl is a true leader, even though he was a major egomaniac !!!! he always knew best...

Fuck all the Axl Haters !!!!!!

As far as the cancellation of the tour goes.... i dont care... all i know is when they came to Toronto, they didnt cancel.... i'll always be grateful to Axl for that !!!!

Thanks buddy !!!!!

First off, Meeks is talent...talent at acoustics. He would not fit well with this prject and it would be beneficial to both he and the ex-GNR guys if he does not sing for them.

Now for my proposal...In 1995, Slash, Matt Sorum, Gilby Clarke, and Mike Inez (AiC) recorded an album as Slash's Snakepit. The singer for this fine collaboration was a man named Eric Dover. This guy was everything you could ever want in a rock vocalist...heavy, yet polished at times.

Slash needs to bring this guy back. If you haven't heard that first Snakepit album and at all like GNR, do yourself a favor a get it. In my humble opinion it is one of the best rock albums of the 90's...especially for one that no one knows about.

If all you know of Days of the New is their first album (that Travis Meeks wrote when he was 15) then do yourself a HUGE favor and get his Green and Red albums and listen to them at least three times - you'll be hooked, I promise.

It seems to me that these three are fan favourites... I could perosnally do without Bach in the band. Dover is definately firts choice.

well, i'm not big on Days of the New, so i dont know much on Meeks...... but i do know that Bach and Dover shouldnt even bother.....

i heard the original Snakepit album "Its five o' clock somewhere." the only good thing about it is that it didnt suck as much as the second Snakepit album "aint life grand?" did

either way both albums sucked.... dover doesnt suck but he is no Axl..... and neither was Rod, lead singer for the second snakepit album.

i saw bach in '91 when skid row opened for Guns N' Roses and i was really big on them.... besides, i dont think Slash and these guys wouldnt get anywhere with a frontman who has his head into Broadway.....

now that gnr tour is cancelled, the old guys should just reunite with Axl and form the original gnr.... but get rid of Matt Sorm, and either get Steven Adler back or use Brain, current gnr drummer, as the drummer !!!!
