IRON MAIDEN: North American Tour Dates Announced
- Oct. 31, 2007
British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN have announced the following North American tour dates as part of the first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time" world tour 2008:
Feb. 19 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Forum Mar. 14 - East Rutherford, NJ @ Izod Center (formerly Continental Airlines Arena) Mar. 16 - Toronto, ONT, Canada @ Air Canada Centre
IRON MAIDEN will fly into the USA especially for the East Rutherford show from Puerto Rico the day before and depart for Toronto the day after on a specially commissioned and customized Boeing 757, flown by airline captain and MAIDEN vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The Astraeus 757, decked out in MAIDEN and Eddie designs, will carry the band, road crew and other personnel of around 70 people plus over 12 tons of equipment.
This first leg of the "Somewhere Back In Time" world tour opens in Mumbai India on February 1, and continues through Australia and Japan before arriving in Los Angeles. The entourage then fly to Mexico then the band's first-ever concerts in Costa Rica and Columbia, and then on to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rica and New York, before finishing in Toronto, Canada, on March 16.
Over the 45-day period it is anticipated that MAIDEN will play to well over 400,000 fans in 21 cities in 10 countries, flying close to 50,000 miles in the specially refitted plane.
Comments vocalist Bruce Dickinson: "I have been flying commercial passenger jets for Astraeus Airlines for a few years now and we are commissioning an Astraeus Boeing 757. It will go in for overhaul, painting and conversion in November which will then give us time to ensure we have all the necessary safety documentation, especially with regard to fire safety. It also means it could possibly be flying commercial air routes decked out in MAIDEN colours for a couple of months before we start!
"Looking at the list of places we would like to play we have always had problems joining up the dots. With sea containers in various places it slows down the whole touring process, which is fine if you want a holiday but not if you want to play. It's great to see places but we don't want to sit around for a week waiting for gear to get from, say, Australia to South America, so this way we can get to more fans in more places en route in the same time period”.
To tie in with forthcoming 2008 releases on DVD of the classic "Live After Death" concert video (full details coming soon) this tour, aptly entitled "Somewhere Back In Time", will revisit the band's history by focusing almost entirely on the '80s in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which will be based around the legendary Egyptian production of the 1984-85 "Powerslave Tour". This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band have ever presented, and will include some key elements of their "Somewhere In Time" tour of 1986/7, such as the Cyborg Eddie.
Bassist Steve Harris comments: "We made sure the tour stopped off in New York, or to be more accurate, New Jersey, but to us Brits it's all a great arena to play with some of the loudest fans anywhere! We've had so many memorable nights there over the years — both on stage and off! — and played many different venues, including the [Madison Square] Garden and the seven nights at Radio City with the original 'Powerslave' show in 1984. But one of our favorites was always what we still call Meadowlands; it's always a great crowd there.
"The last time we played California was the Verizon last October and it was a fantastic gig, sold out well in advance so the fans were well up for it. It was as good a crowd reaction as we have ever had in L.A. It was also our last show on that U.S. tour and really ended up a night to remember. It will certainly be the first time we have played L.A. by flying in, doing the show and flying straight out again — we usually like to hang around there for a few days!! We will have to make up for it next time!!
"l always loved the 'Powerslave' show which I think was arguably our most spectacular ever, so bringing it back to L.A. — where we originally filmed the show at Long Beach Arena for our 'Live After Death' video — has got to be special and we are very much looking forward to it.
"As always when planning these tours, we sadly aren't always able to get to everywhere that we'd like to for various logistical and timing reasons and there are probably fans out there who might be disappointed. We promise we will try even harder the next time around to get to those places."
The IRON MAIDEN fan club has arranged an exclusive first access pre-sale for members to buy tickets to the show on Tuesday, November 6 before tickets go on sale to the public on November 10.
To allow fans to be right up close to the band, the fan club will also be running a special draw whereby 60 winners and friend at each show will be given first access to the venue enabling them to be first to the stage barrier. The fan club is also arranging for two fan club winners to get up on stage and join MAIDEN with the chorus of "Heaven Can Wait".
Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Saturday, November 10 at 10:00 a.m.

In total the band is expected to play to well in excess of one and a half million fans during the entire tour.

You ripped of the U.S. for the last two albums and now this tour too? This is getting old guys. I mean at least you did Ozzfest for the "Early Years" tour. I mean seriously this tour with the right promotion could do very well for them here. What a sham.

...to my fellow Americans, if you read the entire press release it states, "The second leg of the tour will take place mid-May to mid-June with further concerts in North America..."
Now I know that living in the NJ/NYC/Philly area has it's advantages and I guess we are spoiled, but Maiden are doing a World Tour from Feb - Sept(most likely)
Another thing to note if YOU WANT YOUR band to tour in your area, BUY THEIR ALBUMS.........Bands tour areas based on the sales of their albums in each local market.
It costs a ton of money to tour, and the band is their job and a business and they shouldn't be taking a loss.
If you are stealing albums and more and more people in your area are stealing albums, less bands will tour in your area.
That being said, I always see Maiden, they are one of my favorite bands, and I was at East Rutherford last year up against the barrier when everyone else here was bitching that they played the whole new album.
I will be in East Rutherford, NJ on March 14th for this, no way in hell I won't be there. There is a huge Maiden fan base in our area.
TO THE PEOPLE WHO MISS MAIDEN EVERY YEAR DUE TO TOURING LOGISTICS: Here's some advice, save your money now, and prepare to take a trip to one of the shows if you really want to go. Hopefully they will hit your area.
Maiden also is aware that people want to see them: "As always when planning these tours, we sadly aren't always able to get to everywhere that we'd like to for various logistical and timing reasons and there are probably fans out there who might be disappointed. We promise we will try even harder the next time around to get to those places." So hopefully they'll hit your area this tour, but if not they will make a go on the next one.

wow. thanks for that insight that none of us knew before. that being said, i do buy their albums and have been for almost 25 years; and they still will not tour the u.s. south, period.

hey bro, maybe you realize this man, but there are people that don't....
as i said bro they are touring the US may - june, as a backup plan on saving money to travel the nearest touring location......
the most likely reason that maiden don't tour the US south is due to low tour sales the last time they were there coupled with low albums sales over the last few years?
Question: when was the last time maiden hit the South East?

I hear the points about how they won't tour where they don't sell albums, but come on, this is like chicken or the egg. A lot of people in North America don't even know that Maiden still plays or releases albums because they don't tour here!!! They have zero promotion here as well. If they would promote and do a full tour maybe they would sell more albums. But they won't tour unless they sell more albums....but they won't sell more albums until they tour.....yada yada yada.
Maiden's albums sell very well in Canada, and yes that is mostly due to Quebec but not all because of them. For god's sake at least go somewhere other than Quebec and Toronto.......

I didn't know she was from nj either...
As far as Maiden promotion goes, well they do promote in my area, I have no idea about other areas, but they did a Full tour for Brave New World in the US. Look most coutries only get one or two shows from Maiden, because internationally Maiden's market is larger and they have a lot of countries to hit. You can't appease everyone, and I guess economically it was difficult to include other dates, but they did say that they WILL MAKE THE EXTRA EFFORT ON THE NEXT TOUR TO HIT THE MARKETS CAN'T NORMALLY GET TO....

AKA they dont want to play the songs that made them famous, they want to only play new songs.
Look up past interviews for your proof.

OK, I live in the NYC area, so they do always play here, but go back and look at how hard they toured in the Number of the Beast/Piece of Mind/Powerslave/etc. days, they played everywhere in the US! We all know that they have issues with the US, and I do feel bad for people that don't get to see them, but they've put in almost 30 years as a touring and recording metal band, and they're all over or pushing 50, with families, so the fact that they're still out there, and still making new albums, is amazing. I say cut them some slack, they've earned the right to tour less extensively. Up the Irons!

Look, bitches:
Iron Maiden will headline Wacken 2008, and it'll be their only show in Germany next year, although the last three studio albums topped the german charts (BNW No.3, DOD No.2, AMOLAD No.1). Don't expect the band to tour the USA extensively. The times of mammoth Iron Maiden tours are over, they're getting older and don't want to be on the road longer than three or four months per year. And the US of A do not deserve more shows than real metal strongholds like Scandinavia or central and south Europe anyway.
Do what you can to see Iron Maiden live on what will probably be their last "retro" tour, I guess they'll retire within the next 5 years - while being on top.

Still sucks they ain't coming to NZ. Every band that comes to aussie does at least one show in NZ. Its right next door, and I can tell if they toured here it will sell out in 5 min. flat as well. And they toured here on there previous aussie tours 15 years ago. WHY NOT NOW??

I dont know why they bother with North America given their sales figures. They should leave it to the MTV lovies like metallica and eminem. Keep real metal for the rest of the world

Blaze is Maiden, without him, they are just a cover band!! $haron Rules!!!!
The US will get about 10 shows tops when the late spring dates are announced as they will be doing europe fest dates in the summer.
Woohoo Bruce and his freakin love for the US.

Look at the complete list of dates...
They're touring India, Australia and Japan then going to Mexico and South America. They just tossed in an LA date on the way to Mexico from Japan and a couple dates after the tour in markets that do well for them before flying back home most likely to recover.
