ALICE COOPER Says 'The Osbournes' Made OZZY Laughing Stock
- Nov. 2, 2007
|
|
Digital Spy reports that Alice Cooper has claimed that Ozzy Osbourne's reality TV show "The Osbournes" hurt Ozzy's career because it left his fans disappointed. Cooper insisted that by allowing the world into his house Osbourne ruined the mystery surrounding him and made him a laughing stock. Cooper said: "Most fans thought he lived in a big, dark castle with skeletons in the cellar. When that show aired they knew he was just some guy who potters around his Beverly Hills mansion. It was meant to be some kind of comedy but the audience was laughing at Ozzy, not with him. And as a close friend, that made me very sad."

Um, why would Alice - a legend, a true genius, and innovator - be jealous of a hack like Manson? Manson's only trick is shock - he's never really produced any music of greatness and certainly nothing that seems to have stood the test of time (is anyone still interested in hearing 'The Beautiful People'?).
Manson is like Kid Rock - he's had his fifteen minutes of fame (whether deserved or not) and he keeps rearing his ugly head and for some reason is still invited to awards shows even though he's been irrelevant for almost a decade at this point.
Alice has made his mark and will be remembered for a plethora of great work long after Manson has been forgotten for his one album that sold well.

Dude, you're high.
Alice isn't jealous of anybody, he's still tourning and making records. In fact, his last three or four albums have been some of the best and most brilliant of his career. If you haven't heard "Dirty Diamonds", "The Eyes of Alice Cooper", "Brutal Planet" or "Dragontown" you are really missing out on some awesome rock and roll.
And "Flush the Fashion" is a GREAT album.
Ozzy's great, too.

Everyone seems to think Alice is bashing Ozzy. It sounds to me like he respects him and doesn't like the thought of Ozzy being laughed at. I don't see any jealousy in what he said, and I agree with him. Ozzy's image was part of his appeal, and this caught my attention when I was 6 or 7, and now he's lost the evil and become harmless. When you're young, angry, and rebellious, the dangerous feeling metal used to have was great; it pissed off parents and teachers, seperated us from the preps and jocks we hated, and made the shows so much more exciting. In middle school I heard my first death metal (not counting Celtic Frost), and I thought the bands were all dangerous lunatics, and I loved it! It was shunned by the mainstream and you wouldn't even hear something like Metallica on the radio until after 11 pm. Now you hear Lamb of God in the middle of the day, and most extreme metal is played by spoiled rich nerds whining about girls not liking them. The image is forever tarnished and I think that sucks!

Being an Alice fan for over 30 years; I think he likes to lightly poke fun at Ozzy but not outright berate him. He's not that kind of guy to pick a fight...ever. He and Ozzy are still good friends and no matter what dhanishattuck might think, Alice will stick by Ozzy's side thick and thin.
Personally I'll take BOWIE over Ozzy anyday but ALice rules over all.

And I think he's definitely on an upswing creatively and I don't think Manson is better than Alice, but Alice is ALWAYS bitching about how he gets ripped off, how he does not get the credit he deserves, etc. and it's annoying. Check out Decline of Western Civilization II and see how he is about it. He seems to think that anyone else who wears eyeliner owes him residuals.

I really dont think Alice is trying to stir up shit or complaining about Ozzy's show. Cooper and Ozzy are long time friends and I think, as other people mentioned, he's just commenting on his friends career. Not criticizing or attacking him.
And anyone called A.C. washed up is a fool. His last few albums have been excellent and completely blow Ozzy's last two out of the water.

Right on Price Bumbo, that pretty much it. And just a little aside about the new bands, the bands that call themselves metal now are hipster dudes who were in indie rock bands a few years ago. All the "metal" bands where I'm from have the uniform big circle in earlobe, tight t-shirt, sleeve tattos, emo hair and they scream. This has NOTHING to do with Judas Priest who these bands would say is "cool" but sneer at it to their friends about how "80's " it is. I do not consider the shit they play on headbangers ball metal.

Alice Cooper is the man. He has had an incredible career. I love everything from Muscle of Love to Flush the Fashion to Dirty Diamonds. There's a good amount of variety in his catalog and it all rocks, which is a good thing.
Ozzy is just a joke. I used to worship the guy and now I wish that he would have died when he was still cool. :(

I agree with Alice
Then again, it depends on how you see it.
Ozzy had a reputation of mystery and wildness from the earliest days in his career with Sabbath.
Throughout the 80's Ozzy became wilder and wilder - Anyone catch the Diary Tour? - This outrageous behavior that labeled him a "madman" back then, attracted a LOT of fans. For people who were intrigued by Ozzy's wild past, (as I was) seeing him on the Osbourne's as just a regular guy emptying the garbage in Beverly Hills took away a lot of his mystery. I mean I knew the guy was not living in a castle, but some people like to link images to a person. I feel that the Osbourne's ruined the image I had of him. It turned the evil to feeble. I realize he is just a regular person, but still, image does mean a lot.
Take Black Sabbath as an example. The crucifixes, doom - laden music and spooky lyrics all tied into an image, and it fit very well. I feel that Ozzy played into this image into his solo career.
Anyway, the Ozzy I grew up listening to, reading about and seeing pictures of, was not this person. Watching Ozzy become frustrated over not being able to operate the remote is NOT the Ozzy that stood on stage commanding an entire stadium.
On the other hand, exposing Ozzy as just a regular guy may have opened the door to a whole new level of fans for him. Now people could see the real Ozzy at home interacting with his family. People could see him as a loving father and husband. The Osbourne's brought him down to the level of just a regular guy dealing with some of the same problems we deal with, like untrained dogs crapping and pissing on the carpet.
I do believe that the show made him popular with a new generation of fans. It turned him into a celebrity.
Probably most Hardcore Ozzy fans will feel that the show hurt him and it all goes back to his image and mystique being lost.
One thing undeniable, it still made him a hell of a lot of money.

Alice Cooper > Ozzy. Sorry, Ozzy. Seems your wife wants you to be a brand name and not a musician. Alice will always rule musically and stage-theatrically. Seen Coop 5 times and have never once been even mildly disappointed. Well, except the obvious songs I always want to hear that he never plays, but that's a minor gripe. At least he is flexible with his setlist, though.
