ANTHRAX Guitarist: 'I'm A New Yorker That Would Rather Live In La La Land'

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has launched a regular column on SuicideGirls.com. The column is called "Scott Ian's Food Coma" where he writes about his food and travel experiences. An excerpt from the first installment follows: "I've been in Los Angeles for 18 years now and I know I've developed a disaster callous because driving on a freeway next to a hillside in flames is just interesting enough to get me to stop typing on my iPhone (yes, I am THAT GUY or that gay. Either one works.) "I do love this city and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I'm a New Yorker that would rather live in La La Land than back in the 'old neighborhood.' Fuck the old neighborhood. Small-minded bitter assholes hanging out in dank, old-man bars, drinking from their mugs of sadness and failure as life passes them by. I'm not judging, maybe I'm stereotyping a bit, but I've been there. It smells bad. "I come from a New York that doesn't exist any more so there's not much for me to miss. NY's not what it use to be back in the day. It's fucking terrible over here. It's got no identity over here, especially a lack of metal scene as well. There was a huge thrash scene in NY back in the 80s, but now its completely non-existent and been replaced by yuppie indie bullshit and guido/wigger/hip-crap faggotry.

Queens in the 80's was incredible. Not only were some of my favorite bands from my neighborhood (Anthrax, Nuclear assault) but there were incredible shows all the time. Metal was the flavor of the day back then and everyone wanted some....

Maybe the guys hanging out drinking in the same old bars are enjoying life as much (or more) than you. I love Anthrax, but I hate when some one thinks their life is more interesting than another. Hetfield is like that (or at least used to be). I remember him talking about people hanging out in the same town, same bar etc... Just because a person is into sking, parachuting, or whatever, doesn't mean their life is any more fullfulling than the guy who sits on his front porch every day. We all live and die and no body really cares what anyone else does anyway.

While I admit the NYC metal scene isn't what it could be I can say one of the shittiest nights I've had in the past few months was when I went to that piece of shit bar Snitch which Scott Ian I believe owns. Horrible cover band and $9 Buds.

Yep...his use of the term "Old man Bars", writing a column about his food and travel experiences and stating that he doesn't like New York because it "smells bad", just demonstrates how far he's reaching to find acceptance in mainstream modern culture.

is what killed the Anthrax "reunion". Belladonna obviously didnt want the reunion to be a reality tv soapbox goofball fest. And John Bush has better things to do than hang around with the "reunion" and sing duets with Joey. Scott needs to get a new singer and just get on with it. If Anthrax were smart, they'd prove to the everyone that Anthrax is a band and does not revolve around a vocalist

Anyone who believes that there is no bitterness in L.A. of all friggin' places, is simply delusional. Scott may go on about how much he loves L.A. but he does sound like the bitter one trying to convince himself he made the right decision to move there.
At the end of the day yes, he is getting checks and face time on TV, but it's based on his past music success, not anything he's doing currently. That is kinda sad because he is a great rhythm guitarist and Anthrax are, like it or not, Metal legends. I would love to see him use his current 'celebrity' to launch a new band, not some cheesy VH1 reality thing, but a real band. Just let Anthrax go - NY connection and all.
It's true that there really is no proper NYC Metal scene anymore, but there are a lot of great bands doing shows and hanging out in spots in the outer boroughs - Brooklyn and Long Island in particular. We don't need NYC to play our Metal...and we don't need pompous expatriots like Scott Ian either. Who needs ya anyways, Scott, ya bum, ya! You don't have to worry about growing old an bitter...you already are.

Scott actually lives in Huntingtun Beach, which is "behind the Orange Curtain" as we used to say. John Bush still lives somewhere in LA, though his cush White Noise pad in Redondo Beach is gone. Charlie and Frank are still New Yorkers.
As expensive as it is to live in LA, NYC is way fucking worse, man! Scott isn't super-rich enough to live where NYC is cool, so why not live in the music industry's other main spot? I'd rather spend a day at Venice Beach over Coney Island any day. I know (hot) flight attendants living 7 to a 2 BRM apartment in Greenwich Village to afford Manhattan. Unless you're Jerry Seinfeld (meaning rich enough you can laugh about it), NY is a fucking hell-hole.

Scott - the metal scene is here in Norway - not in L.A., not in NYC.
If you want, you could even move to Hell (a small place outside Trondheim). Perhaps you also could get a session job in some of the local bands, like Satyricon.
Whatever you do, stop writing columns about food...
