'Guitar Hero III' Rakes In $100 Million In First Week

The Pulse of Radio reports: Guitar Hero III grossed more than $100 million in its first seven days on sale in North America, according to Variety.com. Activision revealed the figures on Monday (November 5), making the music-based video game the second biggest title of the year after Halo 3, which hauled in $170 million in its first day alone. The sales of Guitar Hero could be either a positive or negative sign for the upcoming Rock Band, depending on how much money players have left to spend when the latter game arrives at the end of the month. The third entry in the massively popular Guitar Hero series, which has been promoted by commercials featuring VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash, features songs from DISTURBED, SLIPKNOT, THE KILLERS, AEROSMITH, A.F.I., GUNS N' ROSES, METALLICA, MUSE, PEARL JAM, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, SMASHING PUMPKINS and dozens more. Stars such as KORN's Jonathan Davis and Trent Reznor of NINE INCH NAILS have been outspoken in their enthusiasm for the game.

Why don't people just pick up a real guitar and learn how to play a real instrument instead of wasting time & money on this crap?

That's there already idiots comparing Guitar Hero to actually playing guitar, as if it's a substitute or something. It's a game. No one plays Guitar Hero because they wish they were playing guitar, or in hopes that they'll learn, they play because it's a fun game. Christ.

I was at the great and wonderful Walmart this morning where I played this guitar hero game thingy.
Utter crap. There is nothing going on...follow the little lights and press buttons. Useless.
What the fuck are people on about with this shit? Here is a novel idea...pick up and play a real guitar.

I play guitar but I find Guitar Hero alot of fun. Its all a matter of opinion, like everything else. I havent gotten this new one yet, but Im sure Ill get it sooner or later.

its a fun game. i've played the real guitar for about 7 yrs now and enjoy the game. yes i can play alot of these songs on real guitar and its just as fun to do in the game.
playing it on expert definitely keeps your left hand in good shape, i've found ts become easier to do a lot of runs & stretches on my real guitar since starting guitar hero.

Its a game and its good for a bunch of reasons.
Ive never played it but can tell.
1. it turns people on to music they might not be exposed to
2. It challenges people musically with timing and cues.
3. it develops hand eye cooridination in kids who are developing and in adults who really wont have a chance EVER to be musical.
4. Its a GAME you can play with your freinds.
5. It helps pay the bills of your scapegoat target Lars, who is cool in my book as well as other musicians.
6. Its a novelty for people who play guitar and like having all that stuff around them all the time. (like myself, I want one)
7. Its here to confuse you dumbasses who bitch and moan about every stupid thing because you cant comprehend these facts. You Feebleminded douchebags!

My GF bought GH III and it is basically as good as the last 2. I just played Rock Band yesterday at Best Buy and it is so far advanced from GH that its laughable. If you waste any hard earned money for any of these games I recommend RB. The drums alone make it worth it.
Also, It is weird but when I warm up on my real Gibson LP I can play GH a lot better.

People are listening to rock/metal. Its good exposure for bands and maybe the kids will here something they like and get into it, hey it may inspire some kids to learn how to really play a guitar. How could this be a bad thing.

I haven't played this game, but whatever. I play the guitar too, but... It's just a game, guys. Calm down. To all you guys saying "Play a real guitar." That is kind of like if you play shooters and someone says "Shoot a real gun," or any other analogy you can think of having to do with video games, since they are just simulators and for fun. Stressing the words "for fun."
Disclaimer: I can understand this remark if someone actually brags about his guitar hero skills over your real guitar skills.
