ALICE IN CHAINS: New Book About LAYNE STALEY's Final Years Due In 2008 - Nov. 13, 2007
A new book based on late ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley's last five years of reclusive life in downtown Seattle is scheduled for release in late 2008. Entitled "Itch, Love Stories about Heroin", the book "will reveal some secrets about the singer, as well as offer an inside look at his addiction and struggles with heroin," according to a press release.

"It will be a struggle to finish the book," author Tanya Vece said. "It will be like closing a chapter on his life, and mine — not for good but I think saying what he would want to have said."

According to the press release, "Staley did call in an interview to Vece's friend author Adriana Rubio about a month before his passing. Weak and coughing, Staley wasn't ready to comment on his reclusive life, but did talk briefly about his fight with drugs."

"Everyone knows he was addicted," Vece stated. "I want to talk about who he was, and get to the real Layne — addiction and art."

When asked on her connection to Staley, Vece said "Let me just say there are some things I won't expand on — some things even I will keep secret!"

Tanya Vece is the current editor of independent art e-zine The Horse Chronicles. She has three other fictional independent books out and is an honoree of the International Press Academy. Her recent accomplishments include press coverage through CNN for the Democratic debate in Las Vegas.

Who really cares to read about how this guy flushed his life and band down the toilet? He blew it big time and MANY different levels to the point where he died and no one even knew for 2 weeks. Oh yeah this is a "Must read".

Hope people take this as a lesson learned. Alice was one of, if not THE most talented band to come out of the whole Seattle '90's movement, and it was all good until Layne got hooked on that bullshit. Doesn't matter if Jerry wrote most of it or not, when Layne was on, he fucking wailed!!! What a shitty way to go.......

Sad drug. I have lost several friends and people I knew in passing to this crap. I am glad I walked away from that lifestyle before it got the better of me, plus a hatred of needles also helped!

I think this is long overdue, i want to read this because i don't know much about layne last few years alive, what he must have went though man it must be fucking awful. A great talent and the addition took him like many others. Wish the guy was still making music its a reel shame he's not around.

what do we need to know about this guy other than he chose to flush his life away by doing heroin.yes he was talented but he chose to waste that talent and his life by putting the needle in his arm, nobody made him do it,he made the choice and had to to know what the consequences would be once he went down that path. how many people died before him? so don't give me that bleeding heart crap about how he couldn't help himself bla bla bla. yea he could have helped himself by not shooting up in the first place end of story.

I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but to be rather harsh on his death because he od'd is rather narrow minded and self centered. I am a on and off user of heroin. It is a struggle that I have not been able to kick completly yet. You get to a point when you don't want to do it at all but it consumes you. It is not as simple as don't do it. If it was nobody would be addicted. Yes in a nutshell it is don't but it goes deeper then that. It is a complete lifestyle change and a mental way of thinking change. I don't expect people that have not been through it to understand and I am not trying to make you understand. I am only asking that people be a little bit more respectful to his passing and not be so quick to judge him as he has already been judged. Nobody wants to be addicted to anything. Some bad choices are made and some are lucky enough to get passed it and some are not as lucky. Just the fact that so many people are like that should be enough to let people know that it is not as easy as just putting it down...

As a man who just lost his dear friend to a drug overdose 2 weeks ago..... i feel this author is in bad taste to write a book and make money off this mans weakness and illness..... i would have been thrilled to read an autobiography of layne but something about this book, the title says it all.... its just in bad taste to me

"want to talk about who he was, and get to the real Layne — addiction and art"

this wack ass chick doesnt know the real layne and probably didnt even want to find out..... she knew this would be a money pot... and she is exploiting it..... i hear what people say about my friend now that its gone, and it aint a sweet spot for me.... it sad..... i would wish no one buy this book...... layne was a real cat.... not just some "glorified addict with talent".... i wonder what his family would think of this book

I love how the same group of people keep on putting out this half-assed crap. Anything that has to do with Adriana Rubio is a waste of money. I bet when this book comes out, a fifth grader will be able to blaze through it in ten minutes. I rememebr a few years ago I bought the unchained book, I could not believe someone would actually puplish that crap. Great artwork in that book....... I highly doubt the credibility of this book.

All you who say “He chose to flush his life away” and all that other crap, don’t know $hit about addiction or human suffering. You all think you can sum it up so easily but it just shows how simple your minds really are. You really need to grow up and think about the stuff spewing from your pie holes because it’s not making you look as intelligent as you may think and only shows your lack of insight and understanding of the matter. Try sticking to the topics you know a little more about.

hey chuckcme if growing up means I need to put a needle in my arm or feel sympathetic to people who choose to then I think I will stay a kid since so far it has worked out pretty well for me as I have a job nice family and no drug habbit. and despite what you or any tree hugger says it is a choice!with all the people who have o'd on this shit or become addicted why the hell would choose to put a needle in you to begin with?got problems and can't deal with it? it's called life learn to handle it by doing something other than being an addict and you would not become one if you did not put the needle in your arm to begin with! your right I have no idea what's it like to deal with that problem and have no intention to. hey I hope you beat it but it's not my fault you chose to do it sp don't try and guilt me into feeling sorry for you.

it's sad that his childhood memories made him feel so lost and so broken. humans naturally love themselves, it is the people and circumstances around you during childhood that change that. he obviously didn't love himself, wonder who influenced that self-destructive behaviour.

I have never put a needled in my arm and never will. I have just seen some pretty cool people go down that road. Friends and aquaintances, not just people I have read about. People who otherwise seem pretty intelligent. It's a sad thing to witness happen to people you care about. I to have a decent family and a great job but that has little to do with anyting. The more you have, the more you have to lose is all. Glad you have never had to deal with addiction yours or someone elses, and I hope you never do because you don't seem like you have it in ya.

Anyway, I haven't read the biography by Rubio but apparently it sucks. And this doesn't look like its going to be that great either.... oh well, just hope someone gets around to doing him justice in a full biography soon.

What sucks is I still can't really enjoy this "new" alice in chains, because it just doesnt seem right. But really Layne did this to himself, and so there is no reason the band shouldn't try to continue.

But yeah...I couldn't give a rats ass about it either way.

cashing in on the fact that somebody will think she knows more about Mr. Staley that what has been published and will pay money to read it... Rubios work was pitiful. More than likely the only people who can comment accurately on the last years of life of Staley are those who sold him drugs or those who did drugs with him, and they sure are not talking.....

Any drug that does permanent damage to your body or causes addiction is gay and not worth doing. (and when I say permanent damage, I don't mean slight damage over years of heavy use)

Heroin, cocaine, nicotine, meth. All retarded.

Alcohol and weed are pretty sweet.

This is base on second hand info and this is the "real" Layne. Oh really. Do we really need another bs book about something we already knew long ago. Maybe she's gonna tell us which gauge needle he used, or if he used a 3cc or 5cc syringe to inject with. Just listen to Dirt from beginning to end. It's very revealing to where those guys were coming from. I miss the guy more than any musician to ever live, but let the man die already. Show the man some respect.

All of you prolly never had an addiction. You dont know what goes on inside an addicts mind so why dont you guys shut up and go find someone else to harass and for your information Layne started the book. so back the f&ck off!!!!! and if anyone has a problem with that too bad get over it and have some RESPECT FOR LAYNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an artist and musician, Layne is influential, inspirational, and one of the most admirable people ever. How can you say, Who Cares? Yea his life ended horribly sadley, but this doesnt make him a bad person. Do your research, this guys whole life he experienced tragedies, this led him to become an addict. He never endorsed drugs, he did the opposite and wanted people to learn from his mistakes. He channeled his anger and sadness into the greatest art I have ever heard and has helped me as well as so many other fans.

Layne you are a hero to me and so many others, You are not forgotten, R I P
