TESTAMENT: New Album Title Revealed
- Nov. 15, 2007
|
|
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers TESTAMENT have set "The Formation of Damnation" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in early 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records. The band is currently recording the drums tracks with producer Andy Sneap ( MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. TESTAMENT recently recruited Paul Bostaph ( SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, SYSTEMATIC) to play the drums on new CD. The group was previously rehearsing and writing new material with British drummer Nick Barker ( CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR), but Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) and international work visa issues have prevented Barker from continuing to be involved in the project. Bostaph, who was a member of TESTAMENT for a brief period starting around February 2004, had previously played several live dates with the group in 1992 and appeared on the band's 1993 live EP, "Return to the Apocalyptic City". He also toured with TESTAMENT in 2006. TESTAMENT's current lineup is rounded out by Chuck Billy on vocals, Eric Peterson on rhythm guitar, Alex Skolnick on lead guitar and Greg Christian on bass. A new photo of the current TESTAMENT formation can be found at this location. TESTAMENT parted ways with Spitfire Records earlier in the year (the Spitfire Records catalog was acquired last summer by Redux Records, the company formerly known as Sheridan Square Entertainment). Spitfire released a TESTAMENT compilation, "The Spitfire Collection", in February. Consisting of tracks from such Spitfire titles as "The Gathering", "Demonic", "Live at the Fillmore", "First Strike Still Deadly" and "Live in London", the 14-track set chronicles an era that ultimately saw the original TESTAMENT reunite for a successful 2005 tour. Fan-filmed video footage of TESTAMENT performing at this year's edition of the Waldrock festival, which was held on July 7 in Burgum (Bergum), in the northern region of The Netherlands, can be viewed below.

It's a shame that Nick barker couldn't continue as drummer (Department of Homeland Security, WTF???), but bringing Bostaph on board goes a long way to make up for that disappointment. Goddamn, this record can't be anything BUT good!

Will be a instant first day purchase, it has been like me with this band since The first release on Megaforce Worldwide/ Atlantic back in 1987. Expolited, Discharge, then Exodus, Slayer, Metallica really got me into metal circa 1981-1984, but it was " The Legacy" which really opened my mind towards the direction I wanted metal to develop towards ala, Marty Friedman's "Dragon Kiss" and Megadeth's " Rust In Peace " !!!
For that I will always be a Testament fanatic, before Testament my favorite artist in the power/thrash fields; were Mercyful Fate & Metallica on Jon Zazula's Megaforce Records.
Has anyone any info on a label called The Armory Records, is that a sublabel of Redux Records, the label that is going to slaughter the Spitefire Back catalogue???

Iron Maiden might as well have called their album "No Prayer for the Mayor" or Judas Priest "Hell Bent for Lent."

Hum Metallica, I have not bought a CD since "Live binge and Purge"
Anthrax, nothing since 1985.
Slayer, I have nothing from there mall-core -era, only the vintage stuff.
Nothing from Megadeath after "Countdown of Extinction".
I will stick with those with authenticty, over all else. Besides Overkill and Testament I purchase nothing from alot of the 80's artist, because they could not cut in terms of spirit and authenticity it in the 1990's.
Since Testament's predecessors are all sellouts...makes this band even more peerless and essential !!!!!!!
Thanks for point out this metal band, has a metal sounding title !!

Annihilator have METAL coming out in the new year and Testament and them toured here in the early nineties. That would make a SICK tour. I remember a song they had called PASTOR OF DISASTER. That suits well with FORMATION OF DAMNATION. HAHAHAHAHA! But Jeff Waters and Alex Skolnick playing on the same stage would be legendary.

the last testament needs is grindcore blasting drums. That would be totally out of place on a thrashmetal recording. Bostaph is the perfect drummer for Testament and I hope he sticks with them but I heard Forbidden has reformed so I hope Bostaph makes Forbidden his top priority because they KICK ASS.

And 80smetal%, Nick can do far more than just blast beats! Though I think Bostaph is a killer choice as well.

They did say they had Nick playing blast beats with the new songs. Would have been nice to hear them. If Chuck can do death vocals, then they can have some blasts. Bostaph a good choice though. But again, why not record drums in England?

I must be the only person around then that can't stand this band. Admitedly I have only purchased one release, return to the apocalyptic city, but it sucked so much I wouldn't want anything to do with them again. The heavy stuff sounded generic and second rate, and there was an abortion of a song on there called return to serenity. From what I could hear the more established thrash bands had already covered all the ground this band just followed.
I'll be flamed for this but i'm sorry any band that produces a song as contrived and out and out lame as return to serenity sucks. And if it was a one off from a commercial sounding album then they can't be consitenet or resitent to selling out can they?

That's a rubbish album title, surprised they can't do better than that.
"Afterlife" (one of the new songs) might've been a better title if they were at a loss, it at least alludes to the "rebirth" of their classic lineup.

nah you're not alone m8, I could never really get into Testament, got The New Order and The Gathering... and I don't think they're that great..... not saying they're bad, its just i dunno, couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Always preferred Slayer, early Metallica and teutonic Thrash over most of the 2nd wave Thrash bands.... though Vio-Lence and Forbidden are pretty sweet.

yeah, i know what you mean. isuppose for me the legacy still cuts it because i remember the day i bought it and was blown away by ferocity of the shredding etc.....since then i've been a huge skolnick fan, even during his a.s.t. hiatus.
i think it still stands up today and has dated really well'
however, i have 20 years of listening to it under my belt, whereas a new fan may not 'get it'.....

And I know when they were around, i mean they didn't release their 1st album till 1987... when the Thrash scene was already in full swing, if you know what I mean. Anyway I have nothing against them, and I may have to give them another try, anyway, off to see Destruction and Onslaught tonight, Thrash!!!!!

All the syllables with both words ending in 'tion' doesn't work. Looking at my thesaurus entry for 'formation' a better title would have been 'The Morphogeny of Damnation' - it means the same thing, flows better and sounds cooler. If you're reading this Testament members - feel free to use it.

08 will be a blast,So far they have never done anything that dissapointing and to witness the band live is awesome! we know Testament haven´t been the most productive band lately,The long break due to illness, change of line-ups,side-projects and record company´s f@cking up the situtation for such great musicians has not done them justice. I think they will return stronger, wiser and more mature than ever. Hail Testament,Old School!!!
