STATIC-X Frontman Ready To Begin Work On New CD - Nov. 19, 2007
STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static tells Dan Condon of Australia's Time Off magazine that fans of the band have responded very positively to the direction of "Cannibal", the group's fifth and undoubtedly heaviest record to date

"It's been great, it's been awesome," he says. "I think our fans really love it and appreciate the fact it's heavier and we've had a great response.

"I wanted to make the heaviest record that we've ever made and still be very STATIC-X, but I wanted to definitely make the most metal record we've ever made as well.”

In order to make the record he wanted, Static decided to take on the main production duties himself, though decided to enlist some help from engineer John Travis.

'I wanted to be the main producer this time around, because I really knew exactly what I wanted to do," he says. 'I really wanted to strip things down and make the record raw and heavy sounding so that was why I insisted on being the lead producer.

"I chose John Travis to work with me because he's an awesome engineer and he's also a musician and has great ideas and mostly is just a really fun guy to hang out with and he drinks a lot and tells great jokes."

There will be no time for rest after the Australian tour wraps up — Static is ready to begin work on the band's next album.

"After the Australian tour we're gonna go home right away and start writing the next record," he says. "I plan on working very hard on that and hopefully we'll have the next record out in the middle of next year.

"I haven't actually written anything but I know exactly what I want to do. I have a lot of great ideas brewing in my head and I'm really looking forward to getting started on it, actually."

Great that Cannibal was guitar-heavy, bad that all the riffs seemed to be very throwaway and interchangeable. I enjoyed Electric Pulse and a couple of others, but generally I think they need to spend more time working on the music.

Ok,

I could do what everyone else is going to do and slam them. But, I an a non conformist. So I'll put them down instead.

Dear Static cling,

I used two damn dryer sheets and still you ruined my towels. The metal gods have struck down many of your brethren but here you are, still plaguing us. To all you bondage pants wearing, limp bizkit loving, Staind cry babies out there. Enjoy it while it lasts. Because with one final blow, Thor will remove not only the remaining PU-Metal, but also emo.

Machine is probably my favorite. next to WDT. Hopefully Wayne will write more then 2 chords for a song. if Cannibal was less repetative it would've been their best.

cannibal their heaviest? i think not. wisconsin death trip takes that. even though behomoth on it kicked ass...
i love static x, but the thing is, they gotta get outta the formula. and wayne has dumbed down his lyrics gradually over album to album. its gotten to the point where its just 3 word phrases for an entire song.
static x kick ass, especially live, but they need to switch it up a little. allz im sayin.

was their best work (followed by MACHINE, WDT), "COLD" their best track

Agree that they need to change it up a bit. Makeover would help, too. Vivienne Westwood?!

Shadow Zone their best? Haha, not in the least. WDT still stands high above all their other work. Cannibal was pretty awesome, if not repetitive as hell. I'd like another Start A War, though. I loved the direction they took there.

I enjoyed shadow zone, not the best of course. Cannibal was pretty fucking heavy, to say the least.

Im just glad this band is still around following the collapse of nu-metal.

kudos, keep making strong albums wayne...
