Orlando, Florida-based singer-songwriter
LENNON (full name:
Lennon Murphy), who who last year opened select dates on the
AEROSMITH/
MÖTLEY CRÜE tour, has completed work on her yet-to-be-named metal project with producer
Jason Suecof (
TRIVIUM,
DEVILDRIVER,
CHIMAIRA,
BURY YOUR DEAD). According to the singer's manager
Jeffrey Pringle,
Lennon "co-wrote all the songs with
Jason, who not only produced the record but played the guitars.
David Elitch (
DAUGHTERS OF MARA) collaborated on the writing of a few tracks as well as playing drums on the record. It's the first time in
Lennon's four-album career that she sat down to write a record from scratch in the studio. All of her prior solo releases she had written the songs on her own prior to engaging a producer."
Commented
Lennon: "One of us would have an idea for a starting place,
Dave and
Jason would lay down the groove and some scratch guitar ideas, while I would work on a melody and some lyrics.
"I had a wonderful time working with
Jason. He is the funniest child I know — never in a bad mood, [and] a great collaborator. Oh yeah, and the sickest, most slammin fuckin' guitar player I know, and I have been on the road with
Joe Perry,
Neil Schon,
Neil Giraldo,
Mick Marz and
Vernon Reid, so props to
J."
Lennon's new CD will be released sometime in 2008. Tour dates in support of the CD will kick off early in the New Year.
According to her offical bio,
LENNON is an accomplished musician and a veteran, releasing her impressive debut,
"5:30 Saturday Morning", on the sad landmark September 11, 2001 on now-defunct
Arista Records. Since then, she has been working nonstop — touring, DVDs, CDs, a movie... and still more touring, sometimes with her behind the wheel of the tour bus...literally.
LENNON has been on the road with such diverse acts as
ALICE COOPER, the
Warped Tour,
OTEP,
THE CULT, the
Girlz Garage Tour,
HEART,
NAZARETH and
MUSHROOMHEAD, drawing rave reviews from all audiences and bands. The press is on her side as well,
Rolling Stone calling
LENNON a "voluptuous teenage vixen with a penchant for bawdy lyrics and dark metal riffs," while
Nashville Scene praised her "richly emotional voice, an arresting combination of strength and fragility."
Lennon teamed up with
SOIL and
BRAND NEW SIN for a UK tour in January.
