METALLICA To Debut New Single Via 'Rock Band' Video Game? - Nov. 28, 2007
According to 1UP.com, Paul DeGooyer, MTV's senior vice president of home entertainment, has told the Rocky Mountain News that MTV and Harmonix plan to debut new music exclusively on the Rock Band video game — and one of the first could be a doozy. "There are a couple of things we've committed to, one of them with METALLICA for example," DeGooyer said. "They've reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game."

DeGooyer also said that while a Rock Band-themed show on MTV isn't currently in the works, it's not something that hasn't been considered. "The risk is that a show would be put together that's not very good," DeGooyer said. "We need the right concept, one that looks at how gamers engage with the game. There really isn't this impetus to put the wrong show up. The game speaks for itself."

It is and endless loop of people saying metallica have sold out, and then bringing up something that dave mustaine did worse for how many years now???

since fade to black was put on ride the lightening......

I was not even born yet when that was released......am I seriously the only person that sees that honestly??

if you really were upset by something metallica did you should have gave up on them a long time ago......

The first metallica album I ever heard was Reload, you know what because I WAS IN 5th or 6th grade!

I soon got the rest of their catalogue........I love heavy metal , but I also dig artists from other genres, and I happen to think the self titled-reload were pretty damn good mix of hard rock/classic rock/and heavy metal.

PLUS WHO THE FUCK ELSE WAS COVERING MOTORHEAD, THE MISFITS, MERCYFUL FATE, THIN LIZZY, BLITZKRIEG, DIAMOND HEAD, HOLOCAUST, DISCHARGE, BUDGIE, and MOTORHEAD in the 90's and 00's......

oh yeah might as well add, cliff was AMAZING.....

jason kicked ass too!

Blabbermouths headlines have fooled you as usual. it never says that. it just says that metallica promised the single to be available for download. they didnt say it would debut on the game. even if it was how would it be greedy? i think if that was the only way to get the song it would be a bad buisness move. they wouldnt get as much money from it. I would imagine it will be harder and heavier than the Reload albums and proberbly more focused than St Anger. With a new producer it will be more fresher too, with a different angle coming from Rubin. Who face it has produced far greater albums than that other tosser.

It pisses me off cause half if not all of these people would NEVER work a 9-5 job for free. Half if not all of these people would NEVER live in a van for a year PERIOD. ONE bad album? How about everything they've released since the black album? With the exception of Garage, Inc. which featured NO original music.

I go way back with Metallica - I had a crappy, dubbed copy of "Kill 'Em All" back in 1984 and got "RTL" as soon as it came out. It's sad to watch a once great band sink to the lazy songwriting and lack of respect for the old fans that these clowns show. The spirit of the band got killed and they never recovered. It's sad. I don't hate them but I don't support them anymore. I can't listen to that boring, middle-aged rock they play now.

The Metallisheep who keep supporting their lameness made me sad.

and for people who do not like the game, its not like you wont be hearing the single. it might take a little longer, but who cares? its not such a big deal.

I’m very pro Metallica for starters. If people are getting mad because they are releasing a new single through a game then it’s probably because they don’t have a xbox360 of a ps3. If they do have one or the other and are STILL mad, it’s probably because they don’t have the game Rock Band. If they have all that and still find the anger building up, it’s just cuz they see the name Metallica in the headline on the main page and just want to bitch.
Metallica is STILL to this day doing BRAND NEW things with their music. Despite being around for 20+ years, they have managed to STILL find NEW ways to get their music heard and picked up. How many bands can do that? Not many. What other things have they done you ask? Well with St. Anger they did give you a dvd with the ENTIRE album being jammed. Live shit was one of the FIRST original box sets. They are the ONLY band that has cancelled a show in my town and actually came back for FREE! Well they still played but James Hetfield was injured and not there, so they played and STILL came back as a full band. It doesn’t matter what this band does or how badass the albums are…there are always people out there that think they aren’t good, or they’re sellouts or whatever, but with some whiney excuse… it just makes your argument moot. Moot is another word for “pointless waste of bitching”.
Can’t wait for the new song on the game or radio or wherever. The new album will be amazing.

I got into metal late (17 years old, 1988) so I first heard Metallica when my friend played me the songs Fade to Black and Last Caress (GD RR'd was the most current album at the time)and when Justice came out I stood in line....I was into hip hop (still am) and reggae (still am) and hardcore, rock, pop, etc.

It so weird/puzzling how some "metal heads" want to hold grudges and judge the music by what kind of person they think is playing it etc. "I won't give them another penny of my money after the blah blah incident" or "oh I heard he did this to so and so" or "was in kahoots with so and so when they threw eggs at so and so". Who cares? Do you rock live? does your album rock? Does it hold up to multiple listenings? Is it all potatoes and no meat? I know MANY bands that ROCK live but you can barely remember a single individual song they played when you leave. Know what I mean?

If I wanted to hold every single artist to some sort of conduct, political, ethical, etc code of conduct...I wouldn't listen to half of the cool music that I enjoy. The media provides us with a lot of access these days and thats a good and bad thing.

I've played in heavy rock/metal bands for over half my life (2 bands 89-present) and I think it's all rock and roll and you have to judge an album as an individual piece of art. Judging and dissecting every little riff and filtering that through what you think you know about the players in the band is a silly practice.

Rock and roll should be instinctive. Does it rock? I'm so tired of guys hating stuff because it's not supposed to be cool.

I've wanted to hate Phil Anselmo's guts many times (less drinking onstage when you are already fucking up the lyrics in front of 40K people, you penis!!), but if Down- NOLA came out tomorrow, l'd still say it's one of the most amazing, kickass, heavy, timeless albums I've ever, ever heard.

Less sheep. More open minds. You don't have to wait for your cool friend to tell you it's cool or listen when he tells you it's not cool. Rant over.

Im a metal fan and will only buy a album if " I " like it. Not because of who they are. I thank Metallica for that. I was stupid enough to buy St anger before I heard it and we all know how that turned out. I dont care who they are Metallica, Testament, Exodus, Iced Earth( new album is horrible imo), Or even Nevermore. I buy a album for good music all around that includes the recording of it. If it sounds like shit I dont want to listen to it. I think it was Enemies Of Reality by Nevermore that when they first released it was recorded horrible. I did however buy the remastered version when they put it out.

Basically everyone should only buy a album if they like it and not because you like, love or respect the the band. There are enough "sheep" in this world today That like a band or song because its played on the radio or played on MTV and the music industry tells them to like it to be "cool". make up your own mind and listen to what you want.

As for Metallica putting the new song on the video game? I could care less. I dont have time to play video games or the money to spend on them. And if I did I wouldnt play nor buy a game that I would get bored with after 15 mins.
