ANTHRAX Recruits Former DEVILSIZE Singer? - Dec. 6, 2007
ANTHRAX is strongly rumored to have recruited former DEVILSIZE and ME, MY ENEMY singer Dan Nelson (photo) as the replacement for Joey Belladonna, who left the band earlier in the year. The news was first reported yesterday by the Metal-Blast.com web site and has since been corroborated to BLABBERMOUTH.NET by a source close to ME, MY ENEMY, which is based in Lindenhurst, New York.

Although there are currently no audio samples available of either DEVILSIZE or ME, MY ENEMY, a cached Google snapshot of the DEVILSIZE MySpace profile includes a photo of the 31-year-old Dan as well as a link to his Meez.com profile (a new free avatar site which allows users to create, customize and export avatars to other sites), where his registered username is "danthrax76" and which includes an animated picture of a singer in front of the ANTHRAX logo. (UPDATE #1: Since this news story was first published earlier today, Dan has deleted his Meez.com account.)

UPDATE #2: Photos of DEVILSIZE with Dan Nelson can be found at this location (Nelson is believed to be the only long-haired member of the group in these pictures).

In an October 2007 interview with MTV.com, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian said that he, drummer Charlie Benante and bassist Frank Bello have spent most of this year writing and fine-tuning a batch of new songs, which Ian said are along the lines of the band's critically acclaimed 2003 album, "We've Come for You All". "We know that we want to make a proper follow-up to 'We've Come for You All', which we all loved," he said. "But we want it to be even better: heavier, faster, hookier. As songwriters, you try to improve on your craft. And fortunately, we've got the time to make that happen. We have no deadline at all because we've got no label deal, so my attitude is, 'Let's make the most metal record we've ever made in our lives,' and I would have to say that's coming to fruition."

If all goes as scheduled, ANTHRAX hopes to finish writing early next year, so they can have the new album out by late spring or early summer.

"We would like nothing more than to have something out in time to play the European festivals next year," Ian told MTV.com. "But in the meantime, we don't have a deadline, so we can take our time writing these songs and making them the best stuff that we possibly can."

Scott Ian declined to comment on ANTHRAX's current singer situation when contacted by BLABBERMOUTH.NET on Thursday (December 6).

I bet he won't leave Iced Earth for it, man I would, Jon's writting is getting lame. Anthrax, Tim is your man.

My 1st concert was anthrax in 1988. i loved the john bush era thought he was the perfect fit for anthrax and thought one of the best albums in a lime time was we come for you all. I was alway made that the never got on ozzfest each. There were one of my favorite bands.

It's sad cause now i just don't care the yscrewed over john bush and can't get him back now.

Since they can't get john or joey to be in the band its time for them to call it quits.

This release will be hitting the bargain bins not long after the release date. No matter how good this guy is, the public just isn't going to buy into it for the most part. Anthrax has made some real foolish business decisions and they are about to come bite them in the ass. The only way they were ever going to redeem themselves was to either bring in a known guy or bring back Bush or Belladonna. Stick a fork in 'em, they are done. That's my prediction anyway. Who knows? I'd actually like to be proven wrong on this one.

Maybe Corey Taylor would've been the right move? Who knows.

I've pretty much given up on the Thrax, but if they make a decent album, I dunno. To keep that Anthrax feel you need more of the classic members. Otherwise it's like most of those bands that have one original member and "a bunch of guys".

I'd prefer ATL lineup, or even SoWN, but those options are out the window.

It's kinda cool they're bringing in someone with some chops, some experience, and old enough to relate to the band on a few levels. I think it's even cooler that he IS unknown. To me, it takes more balls to be a famous act and bring in someone unknown from the underground with the goods than just to puss out and grab some "name" guy just to guarantee some extra press and to cull fans from "name dude's" old band. Hopefully Dan will breathe some fresh air in to the thing - Anthrax has been stale, and the only thing that will get real music fans excited about the band again are great songs, cohesiveness and fire, all of which they haven't had much of lately.

I'm from the LI area and have heard Dan on both projects and think he'll do fine - I think it's great he's getting this kind of opportunity! Maybe his moves online preempting the announcement were a bit premature, but if you were him, how well would YOU be able to contain yourself?

It's not true there are no audio clips from Me, My Enemy...they're on MySpace, and are damn good. if you wanna hear him, go check that out.

Seriously, do Scott, Charlie and Frank really think they can succeed with yet another singer? They had to end their collaboration with John and Rob because of lack of success (at least in the US). After pissing off the Bush era fans as well as the Belladonna era fans, twice, do they really think they will be embraced again by the metal community?

As far as I'm concerned, Anthrax kinda lost it much earlier though, after Sound Of White Noise. When they decided to record albums full of uninspired mid tempo tunes, it all went downhill. The songwriting simply wasn't there anymore, for the most part. Anthrax as a dynamic thrash band with John Bush on vocals would have been embraced by most metal fans (and potent labels) I guess, but two third of the later albums were pretty boring.

Tony couldn't pull it off in the long run and brought back Ozzy, while working with some of his other ex-singers on current material - but under different banners.

I don't think Scott can.

BUT HONESTLY what the fuck!
(
If they are not taking the hit and getting back with John......

WHY THE FUCK would they get a guy who sounds like John?!

with Judas Priest it made sense, they were one of the biggest metal bands of all time and they had only one important voice during their prime........

with anthrax if they have to get a new vocalist they should have choose someone who was going to bring something new to their music........

This whole thing is just a fucking mess.....

if you would have asked me after Sound of White Noise or before WCFYA I would have loved to have anthrax regroup with Joey.......

they waited until they had some of the best new songs and possibly the best momentum they've had since the 80s and then they get back with Joey!!!

then they cant even record with him.......or get john back......

they really succeeding at fucking over members, friends, and fans on this one........that is for sure........

I live on LI, and played in several bands with Dan Nelson in the early 90's, and TRUST ME, THIS guy is going to be the best front man Anthrax has ever had, NO disrespect to the former vocalists. To be honest, I loved John Bush, but was never crazy about Belladonna, and never saw Neil Turbin live.

Anyone who has seen this guy (Nelson) play in a band will tell you in one word what he brings to the stage-CHARISMA. If they let Dan do what he does best, their new material will come out harder than their last three efforts. Mark my words.
