KING DIAMOND Comments On GRAMMY Nomination - Dec. 6, 2007
KING DIAMOND has received a Grammy nomination in the "Best Metal Performance" category for the track "Never Ending Hill" off the group's latest album, "Give me Your Soul… Please".

Commented the band's leader and namesake: "It's a great honor to be picked as a nominee; it's totally shocking and unexpected. We do feel as a band that this is the best album we have ever done. Hopefully there will be many more albums and tours to come. We feel that we have at least another good 10 years in us! This nomination is a testament to our legion of loyal fans and our thanks go out to them for the endless support and all of the kind words."

Metal Blade owner and CEO Brian Slagel commented: "All of us at Metal Blade Records are extremely honored to have two of our artists, AS I LAY DYING and KING DIAMOND, nominated for Grammy Awards. They both truly deserve this honor for the great artistry they have accomplished on these tremendous releases."

KING DIAMOND's latest album, "Give Me Your Soul ... Please" entered the Swedish national chart at position No. 28. The CD also landed at No. 58 on the Danish chart (the second highest new entry on the chart behind VELVET REVOLVER).

"Give Me Your Soul ... Please" sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 174 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The fact that the Grammys nominated King Diamond shows that its an award show that's on a higher artistic ground than other music award shows (like Billboard awards and MTV music awards).

They still have a lot of problems but at least they have made a lot of strides in the last few years...

It would be cool if King Diamond would preform on the Grammys. They could use Kayne West's Mom as a prop...

I wrote this on Metal Sludge

"King Diamond is not someone I would think the people who run the show would allow to attend, not so much because of his image but because I don't think they would consider him a big enough star. But now that he has been nominated they can't really tell him he isn't allowed to show up can they ? I know they don't usually air the Metal award anyway and just hand it out backstage before the show, and I doubt King Diamond is gonna win anyway (even though he should)
but how fucking cool would it be to see King Diamond wearing a suit and in full makeup walking down the red carpet ?

Seriously I really hope he decides to go, it would give him some good publicity and it would be great to see all the reactions from the interviewers and the other guests. It would be even better if they let him perform but obviously that's not gonna happen"

Cool news, but they also nominated Metallica for the Ecstasy of fucking Gold

Which is rather ridiculous.

The reason why more real metal artists are being nominated is because they no longer air the metal award on the show. So, they are now free to nominate bands that they would have never considered in the past.

I agree.. I'm a lifer king fan and the new album is album is not so hot (same old chassing butterfly shit). Why didn't the nominate the storm from Abigail II when it came out? It's virtually the same song.. same pattern. I would like to think that if he wins he wins based on past acheivements.

You know, King Diamond has truly deserved this nomination. His recording career is already good 25 years, he's made many great metal albums with a unique soundscape and atmosphere, he is truly one of the best and most iconic figures of metal.

When I listen to King's music and read his comments/interviews etc. I think that he also deserves to carry his professional first name. King appreciates his fans more than anything, he did his utmost best when he did a tour here in Finland last year - in Tampere it was announced through the PA that King Diamond had a very sore throat because of the flu that was circling but still he insisted and persisted that he would try his best for us fans anyway...and what a goddamn great kick-ass metal show it became!!!

King Diamond: take your time and get well, we wait for your return to tour your new album!!!

fact is,award shows are just bidding wars between record company's with the exeption of the billboard awards which are done via soundscan (record sales) king diamond is fucking cool in my books and really deserves this but he shouldn't be so flattered.

Dammit! Ministry didn't get nominated this time -- and just when they put out their best CD in the last several years. That sucks man. "Let's Go" and "The Last Sucker" are just a couple of standout tracks on their final release.

the Grammy nomination was always an acknowledgement of commercial success, in the past year or over a career. Sometimes they nominated eclectic music to be PC, since Britney Spears would get an AMA and MtvMA anyway. I guess they are trying to live down the Jethro Tull thing as heavy metal re-enters the American mainstream music arena.
