OZZY OSBOURNE: 'Black Rain' Certified Gold - Dec. 21, 2007
OZZY OSBOURNE's latest CD, "Black Rain", was certified gold on December 14, 2007 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 500,000 copies in the United States.

"Black Rain" was reissued on November 20 as a "Special Limited-Edition Tour Package" featuring a bonus CD of live tracks and B-sides. The bonus CD includes the following cuts:

01. I Don't Wanna Stop (live)
02. Not Going Away (live)
03. Here For You (live)
04. Nightmare
05. Can't Save You
06. Love To Hate

In an interview with Australia's Herald Sun published last month, Ozzy Osbourne made it clear that he wasn't too happy about the effect of downloading on the music industry. He said, "I've been suffering terribly from people downloading ['Black Rain']. If they don't find something to stop it, people won't be able to make records. There won't be any new bands. How are they going to survive? I'm an old-timer, I've been doing it 40 years now, but new bands are going to suffer. It's ridiculous, you could be doing it for nothing. Sharon said I'd be astounded to find out how many bands are touring because you can download a record but you can't beat a rock show."

"Black Rain" was reissued in August by Epic in a new jewel-case package containing the full booklet with lyrics and new color cover art and photos. It also contains CD extra bonus content featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the "Black Rain" photo shoot.

"Black Rain", which originally came out on May 22, was released in "eco-friendly" packaging, with the CD sleeve made out of recycled paper. In addition, the record came out without a booklet to further save paper, with the lyrics, credits and other inside material available to buyers of the CD at SonyMusic.com.

"Black Rain" features several songs based on current events and the state of the world in general. But Osbourne told The Pulse of Radio that he hasn't turned into an "issues-oriented" artist. "Believe me, I've not suddenly woken up and I'm sane," he said. "But I'm not one of these guys that can write about boy-meets-girl and, I mean, it's got to mean something to me. I don't write all the lyrics, but I have to say, 'Well, you know, isn't that strange that that happened when this happened,' you know, and I'll get going, you know."

"Black Rain" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart, with first-week sales of 152,000 copies.

OZZY OSBOURNE performing "I Don't Wanna Stop" on the BBC1 TV show "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross" on May 25, 2007:

I thought the same thing a lot of you are saying. Gold, huh? It took the album this long to go gold? Didn't Ozzy's albums used to go gold within the first week or two of release?

Ozzy, you have a great legacy and you've been a part of some of the greatest rock music ever made, but it's just time to throw in the towel. There's no shame in that. Everyone gets old. Everyone will eventually loose their touch. There IS shame, however, in continuing after you've lost your touch.

The problem for bands on Major Labels, is the explosion of the Independant Metal Movement that first started in 1979/1980. There was a big explosion in 1983 then 1990 then 1994 then 1999....and all points in between... and the situation is even more over saturated now-a-days, say like back in 1987/ 1988...when I thought the number of Megaforce, Combat, Music For Nations, RoadrunneR and Metal Blade releases were way to much.

Now think about all the dudes, who put there CD's on to computer and sell them on eBay, or run to the record stores who sell them for $8.00 but give a couple of bucks a disc.

Those who did that thank you by the way, I am getting tons of back up copys of those killer metal disc from the 1980's and 1990's.

Not only is metal from the 00's in circulation so is the 1980's and 1990's...once again.

Dam in my local area, some one unleashed every Ozzy CD in there collection, the whole back catalouge was there, I mean everything (Jet / Epic Gold disc, CBS Associated/ Epic) is everyone sure the problem is downloading or is the problem, fans becoming former fans, and discovering new artist in different genres.

I only get a used CD at a ratio of 1 used one to say 7 new ones, maybe the collectors market is the problem ????

"You can mostly blame record companies for that. Over-pricing and a lack of quality material being promoted...in addition to a lack of quality material on albums, plus the fact that metal music in general is no longer really promoted. Funny thing is it hasn't hurt pop music or rap music any... "

I agree with you on the first few statements, but I don't think pop and rap are selling as much as the media want ppl to believe. Look at soundscan numbers. Jayzee and Britney don't sell either. Billboard is or was based off shipped units. The hype surrounding artists that sold x number was/is false. The record companies way to lead sheep into buying something. Hype doesn't last. We all know that.

CD's are going the way of the dodo. The industry now wants everyone to buy into a subscription model. After all, you've never owned the music, you've only owned the medium. That's what I've been reading.

"Even so, Black Rain is a pretty crappy record, considering all that."

maybe its not downloading that is the problem. Growing up as kid it was nothing for us to plow into the record shop, buy a whole bunch of records ( back when you only got 40 minutes of music per side) per side that kills me....anyway then we would promptly record all the records onto Maxell LXII chromiumn 90 minute tapes you get one album per side and everybody would get a copy and share. . My point being maybe the folk in charge of the music industry did not keep up with the times and the technology...Record shops, record chains are all disapearing at an alarming rate, and the blame goes to downloading......my friends and I have been "sharing music" for over 30 years..the only thing different is the medium that it was recorded on and the technology of today. back then it was tapes, today it is files. My spare bedroom is filled with over 700hrs of Grateful Dead music all on casette, not to mention I have been attending concerts since 1979.Think about this. 302 concerts = a lot of music memorabillia from many years gone by. and some of it is very rare. Thanks for listening you both offer a great debate.

Why the hell would you blame Zakk? Any of his albums, with the exception of Shot To Hell, easily eclipse anything Ozzy has done since 95. Don't blame zakk. Who cares if you're tired if Riff Metal, it's ozzy's own fault he sucks now. Cause he really is too old and there isn't a market for him anymore other than live shows and reunion tours. Zakk was the one who wrote those very memorable riffs from ozzy's later career. Zakk didn't write anything on the last two albums. The Only thing he did was add his own sound to something pre-written for him, which is how Ozzy likes to do it.

I'm a pretty big guitar fan, I even take my name from Zakk's own song, Super Terrorizer, obviously, and yeah, zakk has his own playing style, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Besides, if he did, most of you jackasses would scream something like "sell-out" or Zakk Wylde died with Cliff Burton. Give Zakk a break, he's had 5 strong albums and one pathetically weak one, he's entitled to some down time.

Back in the Dec. 83 issue of The Headbanger(Bob Nalbandian's metal fanzine) there was interview w/ the guys in Warlord and Destroyer said Michael Browning (Heaven's manager)wanted to sign them and sell their songs to Ozzy. I know there are alot of Ozzy fans who have to have his name on their license plate, tattooed on their arm (some are homemade "tattoos"!) etc. I think Sabotage is a fantastic cd and his first 2 solo cds are great as well, but I think Ozzy is a trademarked logo just the same way Ki$$ is, or Okra kola, or Peksi or whatever. And some would think that sporting the Ozzy name makes you cool, but in some circles (ie Blabbermouth) taking Ozzy's name brings you down to the level of, I don't know, maybe uh, uh, um,

ahem, uh, Sharon Osbourne.

RiotAct666 = Sharon Osbourne

Geezer's gonna be busy soon with the new "Sabbath" disc, so it looks like you missed the boat AGAIN Ozzy. For the sake of this ridiculous argument, Maiden is 20 years past their prime, also. What fresh ideas have they put out lately? Zip, zilch, nada... Best album = 1982.

Sure, Daisley wrote the best songs of Ozzy's solo career. I guess he should have released them under the 'Blizzard of Daisley' moniker. Ozzy (& Sharon) had the star power & the clout to get those songs released & heard. Something Bob Daisley could never do on his own.

Daisley was a nobody gypsy musician who lucked in to a job w/ Blackmore & then Ozzy. Where's the long, legendary career put together by Bob Daisley? It doesn't exist. He did alright for himself, but he always needed a star to 'tag-along' with. From 79-81, Ozzy was the star.

I love Ozzy bro, but it hurts to admit one's self that he's kinda done. Also as I said before, it looks as though he's missed the Sabbath boat again. Wow, it's incredible, if it were any other artist on the planet going gold, it would be accepted here gracefully. However, anything that Ozzy does, gets ripped to shreds.

Now, it's bring Zakk into the mix too. I think he plays good, and your right when you say the pinch harmonics can get stale, but it's a formula thats been working.

So far the albums Zakk has been on with Ozzy have reached gold or multi platinum status.

As far as his voice goes, yes it has lost a lot. Everybody's voice goes at one point or another. The point is that when he sings through the digitizer it still sounds ok. And how does an album that produces gold status consist of a writing team that produces shlock? Whoever wrote I Don't Wanna Stop certainly hit on something because it's been nominated for a Grammy award. (I expect many will have a field day with that one now too.)

As far as his stage shows go, I read reviews from folks who went there personally and they all say that yes, his throat seems to be prone to infection and the voice suffers. It depends on the day. Some days he is better than others. Most people know that going in to his concerts now and his true fans will accept that.

And why does everybody keep bringing up the MTV thing? What did you expect to see? Everyone keeps saying it ruined his metal image. The only image I have of Ozzy is that he had INCREDIBLY wild behavior due to heavy drug and alcohol abuse. What happened? Ozzy was not sleeping in a coffin? Were folks disappointed because Ozzy was seen sketching at the kitchen table rather than dissecting animals? What did you expect? Are you laughing that he was spaced out? He was on a lot of prescribed medication. Folks who get drunk and fall down in the street, when other people see them, how are they perceived?

I think it's ridiculous, everyone has their own opinion. No matter what the opinions are, he is going to keep on until the crowds stop coming.

Ozzy should just call it a day already....

I mean look at him on stage, he's making a fool of himself, hopping up and down.

Ozzy get Sabbth back and do a raw sounding album.

You are going through the motions with this crap.

Only heard this song from the album, and that's enough not to download it free never mind purchase it
Watching that live performance.
Is he miming?
There is definitely a backing track there.
He tries to say something in the mic during the solo and it's off.

Sad day if that's the case.
