CIRCUS MAXIMUS: North American Tour Cancelled - Dec. 27, 2007
Glenn Harveston of Intromental Management, which represents the Norwegian progressive metal band CIRCUS MAXIMUS, has posted the following message on the official forum of the ProgPower USA festival (which Hareveston organizes):

"It is with deep regret that I announce that CIRCUS MAXIMUS have canceled their upcoming North American tour. This decision was made only yesterday by the band after receiving an offer to participate on a high-profile European tour that interferes with the logistics of the North American tour.

"I would like to apologize profusely to the fans and promoters that have supported our efforts in booking this tour. Both Hoyt (booking director) and I have worked extremely hard over these past few months to make this tour a reality. We are more disappointed, disillusioned, and frustrated than anyone regarding the recent turn of events. I'm afraid that I will not comment further on the situation out of my professional responsibility."

"Isolate", the sophomore album from CIRCUS MAXIMUS, entered the Norwegian chart at position No. 70 (No. 33 on the chart featuring only Norwegian artists).

Released in the U.S. on September 4 via Sensory Records, "Isolate"'s lyrical concept deals with "how much you can lose until you go completely mad, and how much have lost when insanity finally embraces you," the group recently said. "It's really up to the listener (and reader ...) to interpret the story themselves, because it can be understood in different ways and we don't want to spoil the surprise."

CIRCUS MAXIMUS released its critically acclaimed debut album, "The First Chapter", in 2005 via Frontiers Records.

Don't get me wrong, I love this band, but that's pretty dog of them. You've already got one tour booked, people have been promoting and selling tickets already, then you get a 'better offer' of more money so you just ditch on your fans... Yeah I know at the end of the day we all have to make a dollar somehow, it's still a slack move though.

Good for Circus Maximus. The promoters and management even stated that they were going to do this US tour KNOWING they would lose money on it. Im sure fans will be upset, but if you had the option of playing to 20 people per city in the US or going on a Euro tour opening for a larger act, gaining new fans, as a young artist, what would you choose? I doubt this will effect the chances of them playing PP again either. They gotta take care of what is in the best interest for the band, and doing a financial suicide tour of the US vs a lucrative Euro offer is a no brainer.

It is rough, but we all know this genre is more popular in Europe. CM at this point is much better off doing this tour. It is just reality. I mean if I had my way they would be playing America and do a special concert in backyard, but this is real life, and they have to be able to put food on the table. When they do come to America though, I want it to be a great and memorable experience for them. I was really looking forward to this though... :(

You're missing something.

Glen Harveston is the one man behind the ProgPower Festival.

He is also the promoter who just got screwed by this band he has done so much to help here in the US.

He now sounds pretty pissed off, as one might guess.

And you 'doubt this will affect their chances of playing ProgPower again'??

You're nuts. Mark my words, they'll never be bigger in the US than they are right now. And that isn't much.

this sucks.......

I was really looking forward to this tour.....oh well

one good thing that comes out of this is now I get to see silverstein cuz they were playing on the same night.......lol

I know you're thinking...what? He likes both bands?

Trust me Circus Maximus >>>>>>>>>>>>> Silverstein

but at least I don't have to sit at home and I can enjoy myself....hope they come back on a bigger tour soon :(

neither of them are popular, but if Circle II Circle couldn't hack it here, theres no way CM could. CIIC basically threw the rest of the package to the wolves when they cancelled, they basically said it themselves when they announced they were leaving the tour.

Wow this is not the news I wanted to read today. I have done some serious PR work for Circus Maximus and a good bit for Circle II Circle. A good showing at the prog fest could lead to bigger and better things for both bands in the states.
wtf?
