DEATH ANGEL: New Song Posted Online - Jan. 7, 2008
A brand new DEATH ANGEL song, entitled "Sonic Beatdown", has been posted on the group's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "Killing Season", which is scheduled for release on February 26, 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Studio 606 in Northridge, California with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who has previously worked with FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH, VELVET REVOLVER, SHADOWS FALL and STONE SOUR, among other acts.

"Killing Season" track listing:

01. Lord of Hate
02. Sonic Beatdown
03. Dethroned
04. Carnival Justice
05. Buried Alive
06. Soulless
07. The Noose
08. When Worlds Collide
09. God vs God
10. Steal the Crown
11. Resurrection Machine

In the January 2008 issue of Decibel magazine, DEATH ANGEL vocalist Mark Osegueda explains how the group's collaboration with Raskulinecz came about. "We're friends with [Canadian rocker Danko Jones], and Nick was actually working on the new Danko record about to come out," says Mark. "We were already talking to different producers, and we'd heard Danko was working with this guy, and we were like, 'Wow, how'd you get that guy?' And Danko walked into the studio one day wearing his DEATH ANGEL hoodie, and Nick went, 'DEATH ANGEL!' and picked up a guitar and started playing the riffs to 'Seemingly Endless Time'. Danko e-mailed us the next day, and suggested we send down our demos to see if he was even interested. We did — Nick loved them, and the timing worked out; he had downtime and we needed to get into the studio within three weeks. All the pieces of the puzzle basically fell into place, and it's been magical."

Rob Cavestany, Ted Aguilar and Dennis Pepa of DEATH ANGEL will take part in a signing session at this year's NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) convention. The signing will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, on Saturday January 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the EMG booth (booth #4850).

As previously reported, DEATH ANGEL and FORBIDDEN will team up for a special show on February 29, 2008 at Slim's in San Francisco, California. The event will serve as DEATH ANGEL's CD-release show.

DEATH ANGEL's latest CD, "The Art of Dying", was released in May 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records. The group's first studio album since 1990's "Act III" was recorded at SF Soundworks studios in San Francisco, California with producer Brian Joseph Dobbs (VOIVOD, MANMADEGOD).

Like a photo album, it's a collection of entries. Format might be CD or cassette or vinyl or whatever, but it's an album.

In other news, yawn. Needs to be faster.

I agree 100%

Ya just don"t hear the young kids using that expression nearly as much as people like myself (and probably you) who remember when vinyl was everywhere and every "album" was available in that format.

I miss that earlier killer guitar tone they had. Everybody tunes lower these days, which is a sad thing. Low doesn't mean heavier, just muddier sometimes.

If this new producer knows enough about them , which appears to be the case ( "Nick went, 'DEATH ANGEL!' and picked up a guitar and started playing the riffs to 'Seemingly Endless Time') and is smart enough to capitalize on robs vocals, then this should be a killer LP.

i was never their biggest fan back in the day and wasn't thrilled with Mark's higher singing but he and the band sound amazig (to me; it's all subjective) here.

great stuff from an old band. will buy if other songs sound like this.

cheers.

Sonic Beatdown.

I was never a fan of this band, even though I have a lot of respect for them and the bands of the same era. A 2nd listen, we this ain't bad, with a little Motorhead speed and classic trash vibe.

What I thought after 25 seconds into the song:
"This is EXACTLY what a band like Monster Magnet should have sounded like all along, but will NEVER acomplish because MM is lame as FUCK, lamer than a thousand turds."

I love this band but I am not digging this new song at all.

The Art of Dying has a few fillers (Famine, No, Land of Blood), but is mostly bad ass, so I still have high hopes for Killing Season.

Second that! Act III is a sub-par post-Thrash album at best, way too watered down and too much filler imo.

New song sounds alright, hasn't blown me away or anything though....

Frolic Trough The Park and Act III were their best albums; some of the best riffs I heard and some of them I always keep in mind: THRASHERS!

Act III was ok, I always thought Mark's vocals were really poor before that and you rarely hear them do triplets for some reason, and I am fond of triplets. This new track isn't great, but neither was Art of Dying. They're not very thrash really, more just like straightahead metal.

I was always a fan of this band. They were always impressive live. Call me an old fart, but I must say I am happy when a band from my younger years ( yep the 80's) is still around putting out new material that is worth listening to. Every song on the "Album " doesn't have to be great. I will take a few. Hell that is more than most of the new bands i can't seem to get into.
