IN FLAMES Signs North American Deal With KOCH RECORDS - Jan. 16, 2008
Swedish metallers IN FLAMES have inked a deal with Koch Records for the North American release of their new album, "A Sense of Purpose". Due on April 1 (April 7 in most of Europe via Nuclear Blast), the follow-up to 2006's "Come Clarity" was recorded at the band's own IF Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden and was mixed by Toby Wright (METALLICA, SLAYER). The group received assistance during the vocal-recording sessions from producer Daniel Bergstrand, who previously produced the vocals on "Reroute To Remain", "Soundtrack To Your Escape" and "Come Clarity". All artwork for the album was created by Alex Pardee for ZeroFriends. Alex also created the artwork for the first single, "The Mirror's Truth".

"Adding a band at the level of IN FLAMES to the Koch roster shows our commitment to the metal genre," said the label's VP of Metal Scott Givens. "They are poised to be one of the biggest metal bands in the world and we are thrilled to be chosen to help them make it happen."

"A Sense of Purpose" track listing:

01. The Mirror's Truth
02. Disconnected
03. Sleepless Again
04. Alias
05. I'm the Highway
06. Delight and Angers
07. Move Through Me
08. The Chosen Pessimist
09. Sober and Irrelevant
10. Condemned
11. Drenched In Fear
12. March To The Shore

"We are extremely happy with the end result and so proud of what we have achieved with the new album and can't wait for you all to hear it," the band said in a statement.

IN FLAMES will release a the "The Mirror’s Truth" single on March 7 via Nuclear Blast Records. The European-only release will contain the following tracks:

01. The Mirror's Truth
02. Eraser *
03. Tilt *
04 Abnegation *

* Exclusive non-album tracks

A new IN FLAMES track, entitled "Abnegation", is featured on the "Viva La Bands, Vol. 2" album, which was released on September 4, 2007 via Ferret Music and Filthy Note Records. The CD features exclusive tracks, written and recorded for the CD/DVD combo from some of Bam's favorite acts like CLUTCH, CKY, CHILDREN OF BODOM, VIKING SKULL and VAINS OF JENNA. A U.S.-exclusive track from SHINY TOY GUNS and music from other faves like GWAR, THE SOUNDS, DIMMU BORGIR and KILL HANNAH also appears on the compilation.

IN FLAMES, CHILDREN OF BODOM, JOB FOR A COWBOY and HIGH ON FIRE will play this year's Gigantour in North America beginning mid-April and running through the end of May. Headlining the trek will be MEGADETH.

Haha, that artwork is cool looking, but lame for an InFlames album cover. Indeed, it does remind me of something Korn might do. Hopefully the music is good.

Didn't they sign to Ferret for Come Clarity? I guess they didn't like the deal that much. Why can't Nuclear Blast distribute in North America anyway. Must be something I don't get about the business end of the music biz. Anyway, the art is definitely Korn-esque. I just hope the music isn't. I like all their albums, but the older ones definitely get more play time than anything from Reroute to Remain and onward.

That's a rad cover. What are you smoking? It reminds me of the book, Where the Wild Things Are a little because of the dude's head.

Doesn't really remind me of korn. It could be related to Korn's See You on the Other Side cover but that's a rad painting regardless of what awaits on the disc contained within it.

Who cares. I"m keeping my hopes up either way. This should be good.

I really wish they'd go back to Studio Fredman. Or whatever it takes to drop Anders' scream down an octave or two.

Now we're one step closer to a joint In Flames-Jim Jones tour, which will culminate in a rap-rock renaissance when they collaborate on a cover of "We Fly High." And it'll be "Bring the Noise/I'm the Man" all over again. BALLIN'!!!!

Odd choice. Ferret-level artists always say they don't make on money on CD sales; maybe Koch ponied up a big advance? But why? Curious...

Koch must've laid out some big cash for IN FLAMES to want to go there after Blast and Ferret.

Someone should tell those guys that US rock stardom isn't gonna come anymore no matter who they sign with.

Because, for one, Koch has no credibility as a metal label and bringing in IN FLAMES is a prestige move. They're not gonna sell any more record than they did on Blast or Ferret but the advance they got form Koch was bigger than anything the previous 2 labels would've been wiling to part with since they already know what the ceiling for In Flames is. Koch thinks they can do better which they won't.

In Flames bought Studio Fredman? I didn't know that. How's that work, exactly? Do they pay Fredrik Nordstrom's wages now or something? I mean, directly pay them? Or did he move on somewhere else? Just seems strange to me. Hope the new album is great. The last few albums are good, but they can do better!

"just think about it if they would make the whoracle, clayman, jesters race or any of the old albums over and over again...they would get fuck booring.."

They are already boring and have been since Clayman. So they might as well bore us with good songs from Whoracle and Jester Race.

I would rather want them to repeat themself than this crap..horrible cover, horrible new songs.

Anders is bringing them down with his Jon Davis/KoRn worshipping

atleast their liveshows are decent
