SCOTT WEILAND Says STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Reunion Is Imminent - Jan. 21, 2008
VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland has told MiamiHerald.com that fans should be on the lookout for a reunion of his previous band, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, in the coming months. The singer made the announcement during an appearance this past Saturday (January 19) at an all-star gala event benefiting the AROD Family Foundation. The event took place at the Ritz Carlton hotel in South Beach, Florida. Hosts included Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and his wife Cynthia, who founded the non-profit organization to support programs focused on improving quality of life, education and mental health for families in distress.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo confirmed the band's split in 2003 following the release of the group's greatest-hits package, "Thank You".

"It was time to move on to other things," Dean told Guitar One magazine at the time. "Life and personalities and brotherhood took its course."

"Dean and [drummer] Eric [Kretz] and myself, I think, all feel a sense of sadness, relief, anger, melancholy about it," said Robert. "But to try and go and accomplish something with this band after we've already peaked is a bit cheesy. There's a cheese factor with guys hitting 40 trying to recapture glory.

"There's no way to go but out."

Weiland was expected to appear in a Los Angeles courtroom last Thursday (January 17), where his recent DUI case was to be continued. The singer was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after being pulled over by police in late November.

VELVET REVOLVER will begin a new U.S. tour on January 24 in Chicago, with dates confirmed through February 9.

This contradicts prior statements VR going into the studio in APR for their CD release. Maybe, the legal system will take precedence over both bands. I don't know how many strikes you get in Weiland's game but I think he should be nearing strike out at some point. I think an STP reunion would be cool after a third VR CD. It's obviously not my call, though. I thought Velvet Revolver would last longer than Audioslave. My bad!

also this just adds fuel to the fire...

there's no doubt GNR's "classic" lineup will get back together...

Unless they find another skinny, drugged out, cracked out loser to replace scott...shouldn't be hard...just go down the L.A. street or picked a random american idol contestant..

Man, Army of Anyone came & went in a snap, huh? Anyone have any thoughts on that album? Not modern-rock enough for modern-rock radio, and not old enough for classic-rock radio?

While a STP reunion would in fact be very cool, I'm gonna have to agree with "maidenfan07" that STP & Velvet Revolver are not
metal bands

great news but i hope he's still in Velvet because Libertad rocks and is one of the best cd's of 2007 at least in rock category. ok it didnt sell 3 million records or something but still it sold more then most metal albums so how can that mean it bombed so i use the wors of some1 here???? 500000-million records today is the same as 4-5 millions ten or 20 years ago because of all the downloading. why are always waiting for something old to happen? GNR as it used to be is over and slash have been making good music since and now we have Velvet, just get over it, but still i hope they come together someday for a few shows. would it realy matter if they would make a new cd???? all the "public" wants to hear are the old songs and its like that with most bands or all realy because they were young and have good memories about the music but most of the bands are making better music realy then they did but still they sell less because they get older and younger guys take over the airplay and mtv, so what that doesnt mean they oldre guys are making bad music, they are usually making better music then the young bands that are supposed to be IN. its just how it is and will always be. but real music fans want to hear new stuff also not just the old "hits". its must be sometimes better as a musician to be lesser known band then real big because you can usually play any song you want and every1 knows it but if you are BIG you always have to play the hits over and over again because many of the people who comes to the concert arent realy great fans, just bought the album because it was on the radio and so on. just listen to music you, no matter if its on the radio or not. thats what rock and metal is about, its about the music and being yourself!!!!! and we need more people like Scott Weiland in rock and metal today, unpredictabillity and some crazyness!!!!

who gives if a band is metal band or not???? good music is good music!! and GNR, STP and Velvet Revolver are probably more metal then most metal bands today. Better players and the singer can actually sing, or he's not to shy to do it. im listening to Blackfield now and they are not metal but great. for example i put bands like Porcupine Tree, Maiden, STP, GNR; Motley Crue, Rush, Dream Theater, Alice In Chains, Radiohead, Suade, The Cult, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Purple and many more in the same category realy, its good music with great musicians and great personalities(unpredictable, crazy etc) so who gives what it's called

GNR are a better band now without Slash and the boys, and Axl really doesn't need their help.

The Army of Anyone is great, just no hooks.

I saw STP live back in the day and they were BORING, hate to say it, I'm a fan. They do have a musical chemistry that is obviously hard for them to find elsewhere.

I saw VR live as well, no chemistry, however Slash kicks ass!

I saw GNR live original line-up and with Buckethead, both were awesome. The original line-up would be fun to see again especially if they imploded onstage.

That would rule. I saw them back in the 90's and they were good to see live. Also the first two CD's are classics. C'mon Scott make this happen.

dude. why doesn't Scott just shit on some more people while he's at it?!?! Crapped all over the DeLeos. Turned in two quarter-ass efforts for VR (though that's still one-third more ass than anyone else in that McBand). Probably contributed to Army of Anyone's abrupt end. I'm worried.

I mean, am i going to wake up tomorrow and find Scott Weiland fucking my girlfriend? While spilling a bong on my carpet? And stealing my credit cards?

I loved STP, but thought Shangri-La-DeeDa stunk something awful. As Weiland said before, a book-end is in need here. I hope they can make a good album and tour it, without Weiland going back into his old habits, sabotaging a great band. I like VR, but Army of Anyone reeked of mediocrity. Long live STP!

You fools talking about a GnR reunion are, well... Fools. Its NOT EVER going to happen. They were a good band for a few albums (if you ask me AFD was the ONLY good album). However, STP has had many great records and an STP reunion is ultimatly more "appetising" as well as likely.
I, for one, would love for STP to get back to the buisness of creating interesting and innovating music!
