THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD Singer Quits, Joins SINCE THE FLOOD - Jan. 23, 2008
Vocalist Nate Johnson has quit South Carolina death metallers THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD and has joined the Massachusetts/New Hampshire hardcore/metal act SINCE THE FLOOD.

Commented Nate: "As some of you have probably heard, I have quit THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD. To clear a few things up, it was not because I thought anyone in the band was an asshole, or I had suspicions of anyone stealing money. It just wasn't my thing. Yes, I am a big fan of death metal, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to be in THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD. Everyone put in A LOT of effort and their own shit aside to make sure the record came out as best as it could, get on the road as much as possible and just have a good time.

"Fast forward 6-7 months later, and I just basically lost interest. I didn't really enjoy being a death metal vocalist as much as I thought I would. I played some of the sickest shows I've ever played in that band, but when you're not really feeling it in the end, what does it matter? It just started to feel like a job. I'm getting older every day, and I'd much rather do something I love than continue dealing with a situation I wasn't happy with, and in turn just making the whole band situation worse.

"This brings me to why I joined SINCE THE FLOOD. I've been friends with these guys for years, and musically, and personally, this feels more like a home to me than any band I've been in.

"All in all, THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD are a great band, good dudes, and they've got a hell of a good thing going for them. I still think 'Malice' is a much more accomplished album than most of the bands that some shaggy-haired MySpace kid thinks is actually brutal. I wish nothing but the best for those guys, and I hope they take it as far as they can."

THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD's latest album, "Malice", was recorded with Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL) and features artwork from Paul Romano (MASTODON, THE RED CHORD, THE ACACIA STRAIN), "Malice" is THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD's follow-up to 2005's "Bloodlust", which was supported by an appearance on last year's Sounds of the Underground tour.

Never listened to these guys but I respect that fact that if you just aren't passionate about the music, why force yourself to do it.

Now what? guitarist quits,drummer quits,now your 2nd singer quits! I love TTEOTD and both CD's were great slabs of metal but it's time to call it a day.TTEOTD are a mere shell of the great band that released ONE OF the best metal CD's of 2007.Break up and reform under a new name with a new pissed off vengence and a renewed focus!

That really sucks. His vocals were great with TTEOTD. Malice is an amazing album and I thought Nate really fit with the style. Too bad.. hopefully they replace him with someone in the same vein.

they can bounce back easy. pleanty of bands do. its about getting that chemistry together. bands like TTEOTD, Nightrage, suffocation, mnemic, nile, arch enemy etc etc all have had success with other singers.

Bring on the new TTEOTD!!!

You must be very misguided in your metal knowledge.

If anything, Nate Johnson only took TTEOTD's music somewhere they wouldn't be able to go had he not been in the band- and this was to a much better place. What you don't seem to understand is that Nate Johnson is largely regarded as one of the most saught after vocalists in metal. The Deadwater Drowning cd is one of the rarest and demanded albums in the- if you wanna call it, "the underground." Why? Well the music was great, sure, but there was/is just something different about his vocals than the average dm singer. In short, really, NJ's vocals rip assholes open.

wow fuck that guy. that is so shitty of him to join them just for the opportunity and then quit. Through The Eyes Of The Dead will have to go on a THIRD singer hunt. They worked so hard to get this dude and he sounded pretty generic on the new record and now he wigs out on them. I hope his new band gets eaten up by TTEOTD.



P.S. I'm sorry. This just enraged me.

I seen these guys with as i lay dying and I couldn't stand them. Every song was exsactly the same. Hope him the best of luck with his new project though.

The Cannibal Corpse song isn't quite the band name, it's actually Staring Through The Eyes of The Dead/

Anyway, I actually liked their vox on The Knife Trade the best....Erratic Perception was a fuckin sic song. Plus, to be honest, Nate seems more of a hardcore guy than a death metalhead, so it might be for the best.

SUFFOCATION never changed singers. It has always (from EFFIGY-present) been Frank Mullen.

They changed drummers, guitar players (except Hobbs), and bass players
