METALLICA, PEARL JAM, MASTODON Confirmed For BONNAROO MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL
- Feb. 6, 2008
|
|
METALLICA, PEARL JAM and MASTODON are among the confirmed artists for the the 2008 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The seventh annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 12-15 on the same beautiful 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville. The final Bonnaroo 2008 lineup will total over 100 bands and over 20 comedians performing on 13 stages over four days. Tickets go on sale exclusively through www.bonnaroo.com on Saturday, February 16 at 12:00 p.m. EDT. Commented METALLICA in a statement: "Okay . . . we know that it has been a while since we've had a full-on METALLI-experience Stateside, but that's about to change. We are psyched to share with you that we have been invited to headline the Bonnaroo Music Festival . . . so Manchester, Tennessee here we come on June 13, 2008! "For the uninitiated, Bonnaroo is a four-day, multi-stage old school European style festival held on a 700 acre farm about an hour's drive from Nashville. There will be 13 stages on a 100-acre entertainment village including around the clock attractions and activities . . . comedy, jazz, cinema, workshops, food, crafts . . . never a dull moment! The first go around was in 2002 and since then headliners have included RADIOHEAD, THE POLICE, TOOL, THE WHITE STRIPES, TOM PETTY, and DAVE MATTHEWS. This year we'll be joining PEARL JAM, JACK JOHNSON, KANYE WEST, ALISON KRAUSS and ROBERT PLANT and others. How cool is it to be thrown into that company?? "The Bonnaroo gang does an amazing job at giving you everything you could want/need for a great weekend . . . so hang out, soak up the vibe, and embrace the whole experience . . . actually you have no choice, single day tickets are not available!!! Visit their site at www.bonnaroo.com for more details on travel packages, info on camping, which is what most chose to do, where to stay if you're not into that, and a slew of other useful info." You asshats keep saying "when is America going to get festivals like Europe?!?!" Well, here it is, fuckers. Not as good, but then again - it doesn't get any better than Metallica. I'm not too keen on big shit like this but they are worth it. Good to see Lars not talking out his ass too much. Can't wait!

seeing the flaming lips last year was not only one of the best concerts of my life, but one of the best experiences of my life. no metal concert has ever affected me like that, and i don't want to really hear any criticism of the flaming lips, a very unmetal band, unless you've seen them live.

Hahaha you guys make it seem like its such a hippie fest. I went last year (when they started introducing heavier/edgier bands like Tool and Clutch) and while the hippies were still there, it was a huge variety of music fans to the point where you walked past guys in Emperor shirts. I think it's awesome that I can see Willie Nelson and Metallica at the same festival. I wasn't expecting this much metal but I'm pretty excited about it.
And yes, the Flaming Lips were amazing last year. You just have to be there.

you do have to be there, and what would you recommend for a "REAL" metal show. i'm not trying to say that all the metal shows i've seen suck, i've seen a lot of great metal shows, i'm just saying none of them have affected me in the same way that a flaming lips show have...
thank you bloodjunkie.

Not sure how reliable the source is. They are only tenative, they will most likely be a few changes with the 1st leg of the U.S dates and the 2nd leg of the U.K dates, but thats about the most accurate information i can get at this point in time. I will keep all posted.

For those narrowminded people who can't enjoy a festival with diversity in music. I feel sorry for you but i don't think you will be missed there.

How about releasing your new album instead of touring. I know a new Metallica record is going to suck when the band keeps taking time off from recording to tour. I just dont understand these old bands and why it takes a year to make a record. Go in there with a fire and just knock these songs out and get the damn thing done. It must mean the guys had barely any new material and are writing it all in the studio. Hope I am wrong but looks like they keep dragging this out like they did with the last few albums and they all were pretty bad.

During Metallica's set: 90,000 hippies mumbling, "They're singing 'Die / die' -- that's not cool, man!"
Assuming they live through Mastodon's set.
Unless Metallica's "dynamic" new material is actually more jammy.

I am VERY excited to "sit though" "Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival." In fact, Derek Trucks is probably the best Guitar player on the entire festival bill (imo). I am also looking forward to checking out Robert Randolph, another killer guitar player. (and sit down slide)
The allman Brothers could play circles around any deathmetal band on the planet... Open your mind pal, you're missing out on a lot of great music.

I just read this on Billboard.com and had to see if it was here, too. I don't get it. Don't get me wrong or anything, I love Metallica, but at Bonnaroo?!? WTF?!?!?!?! I guess after the String Cheese Incident and Phish broke up, it was time for Superfly & A.C. Entertainment have to think of something else.
So much for being the coolest Jam festival. It's time for 10KLF to take Bonnaroo's place in the Jam world...

overall, last year's lineup was better, I think. I will be there, and I look forward to seeing Metallica for the tenth time. But, beyond that Pearl Jam, Mastodon, and The Sword are really the only other bands that interest me. Last year, you had Clutch, The Black Keys, Gov't Mule, and many others that would have been cool to see. But, even if Metallica's new album isn't out by then, they will surely play some new material. I look forward to it.
