DEE SNIDER: TWISTED SISTER Is 'Not The Focus Of My Life Anymore' - Feb. 7, 2008
RollingStone.com recently conducted an interview with TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

On Britney Spears: "That squad of individuals, with the Paris Hiltons and the Britneys and the Lindsays and the Olsens and all that shit — they make me sick. You know, I do morning radio and it makes me angry to give the sensationalizing of these girls so much attention — it sends a very bad message out to young women and you see it reflected in the way that girls dress and the way they're behaving. They sensationalize what they do and they make them look heroic! Britney's now gotten to a point where it's just not funny anymore. It's not something to mock or laugh or call stupid or idiotic or for me to say she's a slut or a whore — or whatever anybody else would say. It's a sad thing to see a young person crashing or burning like that and media people need to feel partially responsible because Britney is a creation — not just by management and not just by her parents, but also by the world around her. You know, the way she was embraced and celebrated — she was allowed to become this woman/child. She's barely a woman — who has just turned into this enfant terrible. It's just sad."

On the future of TWISTED SISTER: "It's not the focus of my life anymore. Last year we did seven shows. We'll do festivals or something like that, and we'll put on the makeup and costumes and we'll go the whole nine yards and give the people what they want. One thing they don't want is new music. If we go, 'This one's from our new album!' you see hundreds of people standing up and walking out of the room. KISS put out their 'Psycho Circus' record in 1998, and it didn't sell! The fans don't want KISS 2000. They want 'Rock and Roll All Night'. So we have no illusions about that. We will continue until the spandex explodes. There's bad news and good news — bad news is on stage we look like a bunch of aging drag queens — the good news is we've always looked like aging drag queens!"

Dee is my hero. He is smart enough to know that the 80s are looked at more of a joke today and not make new music that sucks (e.g., Motley, Poison, etc.). The only new album was the Christmas album and if that isn't proof they realize the 80s are a joke, nothing will!

Yeah the 80's bands did suck. Metallica, Guns 'N Roses, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, even U2. HACKS!

The first two albums are masterpieces. Stay Hungry has some good points, but had a few bites at the commercial carrot, so please don't delude yourself that it's heroic to play "the old stuff." Who the fuck wants to hear "Rock & Roll All Nite" from KISS anyway? Not me. I don't think Dee's a bad guy, and in fact I think he still has the best pipes in the business, but make no bones about it, it's ALL about the money, not the music.

I haven't listened to a TS album (yes i said album you youngsters) since Love is for suckers but I think Dee is a level headed cool guy and enjoy reading anything he has to say because it's either a true statement or it makes me laugh. Enough of my ramblings ... back to work.

I meant 80s Hair/Glam bands were jokes. Anthrax, Maiden, Megadeth, are definitely not looked as jokes in my book (some may disagree, expecially with the 'thrax).

"I meant 80s Hair/Glam bands were jokes"

Compared with most of the modern bands out nowadays, the hair bands of the 80's come off as more respectable now. Give or take an episode of "Rock Of Love" or a Tommy Lee CD or 5.

Dee seems like a cool guy.

The later TS albums, although not as good as the previous ones, still had some great tunes. 'Kill or Be Killed' for one... It's just that these albums also had some pretty cheesy tunes aswell...

Snider's Desperado (with Bernie Torme & Clive Burr) was a great band, too. They only did one great album, shame it didn't get a proper release. Well at least it showed that TS's success wasn't a stroke of luck and the man could still write great songs. Widowmaker wasn't bad either...

people who bitch about stay hungry etc should really go find their older stuff, pre-under the blade album. Most of it is available on the "disco sucks" albums they put out a few years back.

With those songs they sold out the paladium in NYC without a record deal, so dont come here calling them a shitty band without having facts.

Stay Hungry is a classic album btw. These guys are actually pretty underrated as far as I'm concerned. I agree with the guy above about the 80s bands. Bands like Motley Crue and Dokken may not have written the most intelligent songs in history but at least those guys could actually play their instruments! And the singers could carry a note and not just whine into the mic like singers today (Seether, Hinder etc.) In hindsight, those hair bands made fun party music to have a good time to just like the doo-wop bands of the 50s and the disco groups of the 70s. Ther's no shame in that. As for the way they dressed, well, there is some shame in that.

Hey, what would I search for (YouTube maybe?) if I wanted to see the entire show where Dee gets into it with the country music dude? Sorry but I have never seen that show or know who the country musician is. Clues?
