VAN HALEN Taps R&B Singer RYAN SHAW For Upcoming Dates - Feb. 7, 2008
According to antiMUSIC, VAN HALEN has tapped R&B singer Ryan Shaw to support the second half of the second leg of their reunion tour.

Shaw is nominated for a Grammy this year in the category of "Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance" for "I'm Your Man" from his debut release "This Is Ryan Shaw".

Shaw's official site had this announcement about the tour: "[Ryan] will be going on tour as the sole supporting act for VAN HALEN starting on February 22nd! The critically acclaimed tour features VAN HALEN's original singer, David Lee Roth, who has not performed with the band in over 22 years."

Bob Marley's son, Ky-Mani, supported VAN HALEN on the first leg of their reunion tour.

First Bob Marley's son for the first leg, now this.

Well, if nothing else, I guess they know they can't be upstaged.

WTF!!!! Van Halen does know what they are doing though. They put all of these acts out there that they know the crowd will get tired of and after 45 min the crowd is screaming to get VH out on stage.

Blabbermouth words things to create controversy no matter what. For at least a few seconds I thought they meant Roth was already out of VH again.

Way to be a tabloid.

We saw Van Halen in Philly in October. We showed up late for the opener, but right on time for VH. I'm just really not that into reggae. They should get Andrew W.K. to open for them. That would be a blast!

VH reunion is fucking awesome regardless what crappy acts they get to open...still it would be nice to just throw on a Ratt or a Nasvhille pussy to open the show...i mean what do fans of VH have in common with Reggae and R&B artists? Fucking nothing man.

They could take any young rock band out with them and give them the chance of a lifetime, yet they continue to take out acts that don't appeal to the majority of the audience. Both of these openers are great, but they just don't fit on that bill. If I was in their shoes....but I'm not, so fuck it!

I saw the show in Denver last week, and I was very impressed with them. DLR sounded great, but his ridiculous stage antics get old after a while. I would kill that dude if I had to hang out with him on tour. I can see why Eddie hated him for so many years. They did seem happy on stage together. Wolfie sounded good, but he sure isn't Michael Anthony. Wolfie looked like he should be playing in a garage band, not on a stage of that magnitude! There were a ton of Yuppies at that show. I felt like I was getting ready to see Dave Matthew's!

I think a band like UFO, Michael Schenker(If he could remain sober), or even the Cult would be great.

Nice that VH is helping artists, but have someone with some nut open for you.

Looking forward to the gig. I guess I'll have to stay in the titty bar longer before the show!

I saw them in Ottawa in 1980 and Montreal in`82,`84, and they always had support bands that got boooed during most of their performance. We figured it was either VH`s twisted sense of humour or they just wanted to make the audience go out their minds for them to start.

Now THOSE were the real Van Halen days!!!

Billing: "i mean what do fans of VH have in common with Reggae and R&B artists? Fucking nothing man."

What? Except the fact that we're all human? What do you mean? Please...when I saw Halen in AZ back in Nov., the crowd was really into Marley, so it was a win-win. Besides, most people who go to see Van Halen now-a-days are 1) parents 2) have outgrown labels 3) have expanded their musical horizons. Don't get me wrong - I'm still a hardcore metalhead, but I also understand that metal is not the only music out there and listen to all sorts of stuff. Believe me, I'm not the only one.

they never have had a decent opening act except maybe silvertide. I remember back in the day people booed so loud at these lousy acts they played maybe 2 songs before they ran offstage. why do bands think thier fans want to hear any other style of music other than whatthey are coming to see, if I go see a band like vh I sure as hell don't want to hear a regge or r+b act. I know if I was going I could relax knowing had an extra hour to get there without missing anything

Van Halan kicked ass last night. Much better show than I thought going in. Roth and the Van Halen's tore it up. Two straight hours and no ballads. All Rock, all night. The opening act - Bob Marley's son - was ok but just didn't fit with the crowd. You hear one reggae song and you've heard them all. Why doesn't VH bring along Skid Row or another 80's hard rock act? I'd like to know who is making these decisions.

Nefty remembers... I saw that tour in Indianapolis: Iron Maiden Beast on the Road Tour '82, opening for Rainbow (Straight Between the Eyes)...and then .38 Special.

Still have Bobby Rondinelli's (Rainbow) drum stick. And remember .38 Special walking off after about 6 songs once the Convention Center started emptying out.

So, it sucks both ways: the crowd isn't into the music (in that case, the headliner!) and the band just has to hate playing to an oil painting...

For the record, .38 Special didn't suck; saw them open for Rush a couple of times. Southern rock and Rush? Yep, another beer please.

I have been to way to many black/death/hardcore festivals and had to suffer through 5-6 terrible bands just to see the real draw...and the horrible splitting headache from said 5-6 bands that ruined the main acts performance for me... but an R&B band?

The guy sounds good to me. This seems like a well rounded evening of music.

Why not an R&B singer? Ryan Shaw sounds like he mostly draws from blues/soul influences anyway. It's not like you'll have to sit through KC and JoJo, which would just be a strange bill. This is real music, not some pop boyband bullshit. The crowd should dig it.

Who cares who is opening when you have a KAREOKEE act as a main event?
Come on, tell me you don't think VH is kareokee now, NO new material and the lead singer Roth acts like he is strutting the runway for a gay festive parade?
