VELVET REVOLVER's SCOTT WEILAND Back In Rehab - Feb. 7, 2008
BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received the following official statement from VELVET REVOLVER:

"Following VELVET REVOLVER's performance last night [Wednesday, February 6] in Los Angeles, lead singer Scott Weiland voluntarily entered a rehab facility. Tonight's San Diego show at the House of Blues has been postponed; the rescheduled date for San Diego is [to be announced]. VELVET REVOLVER deeply apologize to their fans and thank them for sticking by the group."

Weiland was arrested on November 21, 2007 when he crashed his car while driving on an L.A. highway.

He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs with a prior conviction, and with an allegation that he refused a chemical test as required by law.

According to MTV.com, Weiland has been arrested multiple times over the past decade for a variety of drug offenses in California and New York, and has spent time in jail on several occasions. He was arrested in 2003 in Hollywood after a traffic accident and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, though those charges were eventually dismissed after he successfully completed a drug rehab program and submitted to drug tests.

Weiland recently the Miami Herald to be on the lookout for a STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunion in the months ahead. The band members are reportedly on good terms again after their less than friendly break-up in 2002, and Weiland told The Pulse of Radio a while back that he wouldn't rule out getting back together. "I think that there is always that distinct possibility," he said. "I have to say it would never come in the way of VELVET REVOLVER, but I don't think that the story has been completely told. I'm unhappy with the ending of the story."

Although he was supposed to perform with VELVET REVOLVER on January 20 at a party in Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival, Weiland was a no-show for the gig. The vocalist's flight to Utah was diverted because of bad weather. The band carried on with the show, inviting audience members and singer Donovan Leitch to pitch in.

VELVET REVOLVER performing "The Last Fight" on December 31, 2007:

Just another ploy in an attempt to keep his sorry ass out of the clink - "Hey look your honor, I'm in rehab, you can't put me in jail..." He's been treated with kid gloves because he's a "star celebrity," and he's been able to slide this long with no consequences for his habitual offenses. Lock him up for real, take away the comforts his so-called status has allowed him to enjoy to this point, and make make him finally answer for his actions, and to all those his actions affect - then maybe he'll get it....

Saw 'em in LA in Dec. Weiland couldn't sing worth a shit. Next night at the Cat Club, Slash walked on stage, sober I might add, and tore the house down. I was having a beer with Mark Bryan from Hootie (he was playing earlier in the night down the stip) and dude was quick to point out that if you ever need a guitar player, you call Slash. But Mark did say that he was probably a better songwriter. I did not dispute the call.

I'm not shocked one bit. Alcoholism/Addiction is a life long progressive illness unless you keep working on yourself. Maybe Scott forgot what got him clean and thought he could handle it. I've had 25 months no drugs, booze, etc. I've relapsed a few times since then myself due to major surgeries that I needed. Scotts not a bad guy. He just has a bad disease. It's such a shame that we have these awesome entertainers and yet their managers or overseers just turn a blind eye to what they are doing. Look at what happened to Ledger. Such a shame. 1 out of every living human on this planet is either affected by or is an addict/alcoholic themselves. Presprition pill use has been on the rise for so long. But is it really killing the pain(Quote-Nikki Sixx). Don't make the guy out to be such a bad guy because he's an addict. He just has a bad disease. If someone with cancer would be a fuck up or not show for shows every body would have pity on them. A disease is a disease. PPL and schools in this Kunty need to start educating our young ppl about addicition. And our scientists and drug makers need to start looking at possible devoloping some kinda painkiller that isn't opiate based that is just as strong. We have the technology. Thats for sure. It's just that the drug companies have the money and the drugs that millions upon millions of sick ppl rely on. I could keep going on but I'll stop. Scott, good luck to ya bro! Just dust yourself off and get back up on your feet and get that pink cloud goin' on again and get your recovery. Your children need you bro. Fuck the fans, bands, etc. You and your children need you!

I dig this band, but for the life of me remain convinced that Scott was the wrong choice for a vocalist. As frontman for STP, he was great, but...I dunno'...ge is all wrong for VR.

Slash and Co. really should again consider hooking up with Sebastian Bach.

HERE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS. A FEW THINGS CAME TO MIND. IN NOVEMBER, WHEN ALICE IN CHAINS PLAYED THEIR ACOUSTIC SHOW HERE, SCOTT CAME ONSTAGE TO SING ANGRY CHAIR. WHAT STRUCK ME WAS HOW SMALL HE WAS(I KNEW HE WAS SKINNY BUT DAMN!) PLUS HE LOOKED STRUNG OUT BUT I WAS HOPING HE WAS JUST DEALING WITH HIS BI POLAR DISORDER. AND ALTHOUGH THE CROWD GAVE HIM A GREAT OVATION, HE TOTALLY BLEW THE SONG. DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THE LYRICS AND I BELIEVE THEY WERE WRITTEN FOR HIM ON A SHEET OF PAPER ON THE FLOOR. OH WELL, I DISMISSED IT AS A BAD NIGHT. LAST WEEK RIGHT OFF THE BAT I NOTICE HE'S MISSING TEETH!!! AFTER THE FIRST SONG SCOTT SAID HE GOT JUMPED IN EUROPE AND HAD ONE TOOTH MISSING AND A HALF TOOTH CHIPPED. I BELIEVED HIM BECAUSE HE DID AWESOME THIS SHOW AND HIS VOCALS SOUNDED VERY GOOD, BUT WITH A LIETIME DRUG ADDICT YOU CAN NEVER TELL. SINCE 1996 I'VE SEEN THIS GUY PULL HIMSELF BACK TOGETHER ONLY TO FALL AGAIN AND SO FORTH. I HAVE NO HATE FOR HIM ALTHOUGH I KNOW BANDMATES CAN GET VERY FRUSTRATED WHEN SOMEONE IS ON DOPE. I REALLY HOPE HE CAN GET IT TOGETHER AGAIN BECAUSE I THINK HE'S A GREAT TALENT! THE BAND WRITES THE MUSIC BUT SCOTT'S VERY CREATIVE WITH HIS VOCAL LINES, LYRICS AND MELODIES AND THAT TAKES A LOT OF TALENT TO COME UP WITH. HE DOESNT HAVE THE BEST VOICE IN ROCK BUT HE USES IT WELL AND SEEMS LIKE A CHAMELEON WITH HOW HE CAN CHANGE IT. THERE'S NO DOUBT HE'S A VERY GOOD FRONTMAN, PERSONALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITES. I HOPE HE CAN SOBER UP FOR HIS BAND, HIS REUNION WITH STP, HIS CHILDREN BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY-FOR HIMSELF. WHEN HE'S ON HE'S ON AND I DON'T WANNA READ ABOUT ANOTHER CASUALTY IN ROCK.

Not to mention the strain of touring and other affairs on top of that. I doubt most of you who called him weak would be able to resist all the temptations of having money and being a rockstar? DAMMIT! I know people like to make cracks but you gotta feel for the guy a little. Granted he's rich and a rock star but addiction is a tough path to try and get off.

I hope this doesn't ruin everything goin on because the only reason STP was possibly comin back was because he was "clean" again. They broke up solely because of his addiction, I hope this doesn't spoil any reunion.

Plus I know Matt Sorum has a drum stick up his ass about Weiland and about cancelling any shows to begin with.

This sucks. Best of luck Scotty.

Jesus Christ Superstar, this is a disease. I'm not gonna put ya down because we are all entiltled to our own opinions. I just know that when I was active in my addiction I had no choice but to use. Look up at addiction in a medical dictionary. According to Lemmy addiction is any habbit that you have that you can stop at anytime as long as it's next tuesday!LOL..gotta love Lemmy! BTW, that was from an into he wrote Nikki Sixx "The Heroin Diaries". Addiction is a disease. Thats for damn sure. It isn't an excuse to be a fuck up. It's a mental, spiritual and physical disease because it has an effect on all three of those areas. I've been in recovery since august of 04. I've had a few slips, some longer than I wanted them to be, but I've always managed to pull myself up. No doubt this shit runs in Scotts family as it does mine and so many others. Give the guy a break! We have no business knowing what is going on in this guys personal life. I'm not even a huge Weiland fan. I just can relate to the guy. I hope for him and his childrens sake he gets his ass back together and comes back stronger than ever.

Well, with the (good) philosophy Rational Recovery came up with (and it continues to be documented as the most effective rehab system in America at least), the idea of addiction being a disease is ultimately what keeps addicts in the cycle, rather than them breaking free.
I've seen people who've attended AA meetings for 10 or more years refer themselves still as having a "disease" and are until the day they die "recovering alcoholics". The RR philosophy is simply stop doing it and be done, and to say "fuck it I'm not an addict anymore".

You'd be amazed just how profitable the whole disease mentality is in the rehab business. Just take a look when Lohan or Spears go into rehab! They get luxurious suites that easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and lo and behold they land right back in the same deal weeks later! It's what keeps people like Weiland, Spears, Lohan, Winehouse and all the other addicts shelling out major bucks for hotel rooms and luxurious getaways disguised as therapy. If they wanted to really quit, they'd just simply say "fuck it I'm done" or go move out to the Middle East. That's the trick the rehab industry, AA included, pulls to keep the big bucks rolling in. William Burroughs didn't need rehab or methadone, he simply got tossed into prison and the convulsions convinced him to stop for the rest of his life. Rehab's also huge on telling you you're powerless against your own demons, which is totally untrue. Look at Bill Hicks, who quit damn near every addiction you can think of all at once (sans cigs). I'd hardly call going out and openly seeking something as relatively hard to find as heroin, wrapping your arm up with a rubber band, shooting up and then actively going out and spending money you made on something that's universally known to be bad for you a "disease". It's just plain stupidity.

I can't feel bad for Weiland. He has a family, sings for some of the biggest rock talents of all time, blew a career with one of the biggest bands of the 90's, lets down the fans constantly, and just has this asshole Hollywood rocker mentality. I'd be on that VR gig in two seconds and I'm sure alot of other more worthy people would too!

The problem is that the definition of "disease" is so vague that you can apply it to almost anything that causes problems for somebody. Personally, I wouldn't call it a disease because it can be overcome through sheer willpower and discipline, which is not the case with things like Psoriasis and Alzheimer's. I would classify it as more of a mental health problem.

The term "disease" also makes it sound like you can never get rid of it, but you can in fact go from being an alcoholic to a non-alcoholic, even while still drinking (I know from experience).

Actually, a good way to combat alcoholism is to smoke pot instead... no joke. It gets you fucked up, but not to the extent that alcohol does, and it is also non-addictive and non-toxic. So it sort of fills that void left by alcohol, without creating another problem. Obviously, it is better to just stop taking any recreational drugs, but that can be very difficult for an alcoholic to do.

To be honest I ain't to surprised about this, I'm disappointed, but not surpirsed. The only thing that I'm surprised about is that fact that this is so long after his DUI arrest. This guy has been in the back seat of a squad car more times than Travis Barkers been to a tattoo parlor.

But I'm still hoping that he gets clean, if not he's got two ways he could get killed, one the drug and two his wife... If she does kill him its justifiable.

I do agree with most of ya'll about locking him up for a little while cause these rehab trips ain't workin!

I'm rootin' for ya my friend! Get clean and do it quick. You rock and I like to see you rocking out for at lest another ten years! So don't kill over just yet.

I'M READING SLASH'S BOOK RIGHT NOW AND I'M UP TO THE PART WHERE SCOTT IS LIVING IN A HALF WAY HOUSE DUE TO HIS ADDICTION. SOME OF THE COMMENTS ON HERE LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS DO NOT HAVE THE DISEASE OF ADDICTION.( YES,I SAID DISEASE) AND THAT'S GOOD. I DON'T WISH THAT ON ANYONE. IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT, THEN YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND IT. I DON'T CARE HOW MANY DIPLOMAS YOU HAVE. WHILE I DON'T HAVE SYMPATHY FOR HIM. I DO HAVE EMPATHY. IT IS A DIFFICULT ROAD. YOU HAVE TO TRULY WANT TO STOP. I'VE SEEN MANY PEOPLE DIE FROM THIS OVER THE YEARS BECAUSE THEY JUST COULDN'T(OR WOULDN'T) SURRENDER. ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN IN RECOVERY FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME WILL TELL YOU THAT THE ONLY "TRUE" POWER THEY HAVE, IS THE THE POWER OF CHOICE.ONCE YOU'VE ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT YOU ARE AN ADDICT,THE CHOICE IS SIMPLE. YOU DIE A CLEAN ADDICT OR YOU DIE A USING ADDICT.EITHER WAY,YOU DIE. I DON'T KNOW IF ADDICTION IS GENECTIC OR DUE TO THE WAY YOU WERE BROUGHT UP, OR BOTH. DON'T CARE. THAT ARGUMENT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS.I DO KNOW THAT IF YOU DON'T STAY ON TOP OF IT,HISTORY TENDS TO REPEAT ITSELF.THE DISEASE OF ADDICTION COULD GIVE TWO FUCKS IF YOU'RE FAMOUS OR NOT. MY FRIENDS WEREN'T FAMOUS. AND IT TOOK THEIR LIVES JUST LIKE IT WOULD ANYONE ELSE. WERE THEY LESS IMPORTANT? NOT TO ME. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I WOULD LOVE TO SIT DOWN WITH A BONG,A BEER, AND MAYBE EVEN 1 OR 2 CODIENES. JUST TO TAKE THE FUCKIN' EDGE OFF. EVEN IF IT'S ONLY FOR MINUTE. BUT, THAT'S NOT AN OPTION. I HAVE KIDS. AND THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ME LOADED. AND I WILL DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO MAKE SURE THEY NEVER DO. I'VE LIVED MY LIFE AND NOW I MUST GIVE THEM THE CHANCE TO LIVE THEIRS. BECAUSE ONCE I START. WELL, LET'S JUST SAY THAT "ONE IS TOO MANY, AND A THOUSANDS NEVER ENOUGH".
