'Rock Star' Reality Competition To Return For Third Edition?

Christopher Rocchio of Reality TV World reports that Mark Burnett apparently still hasn't written off the possibility of doing a third edition of his "Rock Star" reality competition series. "It's funny. It's probably — if you look at these online studies — one of the most requested shows to come back from anything I've done and almost anything is 'Rock Star'," Burnett told reporters during a Friday conference call intended to promote his upcoming new 'My Dad is Better Than Your Dad' NBC game show. "And yes, I am in discussions with various bands. There's one flaw in that as a business, is that you have to find a suitable rock band that actually wants to find a new lead singer. So you got quite a barrier to entry. But yeah, we are in discussions with some bands. And yeah, people do want to see that series again." "Rock Star"'s second season, which aired in summer 2006, aimed to find a frontman for a newly-formed group featuring musicians from other bands — MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee, former METALLICA bass player Jason Newsted and ex- GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke. the band on the other hand - not so good. and to pick lukas as their singer REALLY put the final nail in the coffin. i wonder if lucas is still claiming that 'this is only the beginning'?

This show should go way underground. Metal bands always change singers, they missed the boat on Anthrax. They also coulda done Exodus a while back, or Warrant. More recently bands like Through the Eyes of the Dead. Definitely a ratings hit!!! (yeah, right).

Do you think the Exec's give a rats ass what the band does after the show is finished? Reality Check: Its all about making money when the show is airing. I mean c'mon.... did anyone think this Tommy Lee- Newstead -Clark thing was going to catch on? Tommy Lee has the attention span of a fuckin gnat (Sorry if he is DJ scratchy Scratch now) but get a clue people. Its all the corpoarate machine feeding the coffers with revenue. People will watch this to comment and blog if for nothing else. create a buzz and keep the corporate rat on the wheel. What happens to (insert band here) afterwards doesn't even enter into the minds of the TV exec's!

I mean the riffs & the drumming are like the new & improved version of Slayer for this era, but then enters Randy & I hit the skip button. Repeat that 10 times & the cd is out of my player in 3 minutes. Its a waster of very good metal. I recognize I am getting older, but seriously; shake the vocals up a little bit from song to song & add a little variation. You don't have to go to clean vocals & get all Opeth, but bring it down a notch on the growl scale from time to time.

Instead of focusing on all the shitty singers we have out there right now, how bout we take 2-3rds of this countrys guitarists that are looking for bands to join and put them on that show, to join a band thats looking for guitarists.
Either that, or they could do a year round audition for a full blown original band not composed of superstars. It'd be like Real World meets Big Brother meets Survivor meets SuperGroup (Ted Nugent, Scott Ian, Sebastian Bach, Evan Seinfeld, and Jason Bonham)....except in normal person form.

The TV show was popular cause it was on TV.
Lukas was great, but the aftermath went downhill with poor pushing (similar to INXS). These shows are FAST FOOD TV. As soon as the show ends, so ends people's attention. It's the MEDIA that directs this. TV is ephemere, it is not meant to last, apart from a few exceptions.
BUT nontheless, here are some ideas of mine:

1. Rock Star - Black Sabbath
2. Rock Star - Iced Earth (hahaha)
3. Rock Star - Queen (just kidding here)
4. Rock Star - The Doors (of the 21st century)
5. Rock Star - Motley Crue (the search to replace Tommy Lee)
6. Rock Star - Nickelback: find a douchebag to replace the major douche frontman
7. Rock Star - Shittie (find a pussycat doll to replace that shittie singer, hehe)
8. Rock Star - Ozzy Osbourne (find a lip sinch lookalike for Ozzfest and also to fuck Sauron)

last season was one of the networks highest rating series ever. For sheer campiness and drama queening of Clarke & Lee it would be a hard act to follow. The producers always take the band to the cleaners and fuck them over contractually tho. chew em up and spit em out.
I watched avidly but never saw anyones hair peice slip[

Of course you won't see that. The last season sucked, I couldn't stand any of the singers period, but I watched because it was like a car-wreck and being some of what an optimist, I was hoping that things would make a better turn...nope. Dilana sucked. Lukas sucked. The guy who sang 'Baba O'Reilly" by The Who, he sucked.
Now I know a bunch of Dilana fans on here will be whining and bitching, but come on, I don't want to watch some chick who has mediocre vocal skills running around acting all fucking pretentious like she's bigger and better than the band, I hate that shit.
I think they'd be better off doing a show more in the SuperGroup format...and having different frontmen coming into the band's environment and actually seeing what works. Fuck the fans and their participation, they don't mean shit anyways. Bands are always there to perform, not entertain.

OK, I loved both shows. The ratings were fine. The success of a tour is not what is measuring the ratings. To the band: be smart about the media coverage that the show gets, make sure your contract includes advertising and announcements about your finished album and tour. Maybe even a preview show. NO ONE knew when the supernova CD was released. With CBS as your network you should have a lot of commercials for such a release. There should have been Morning Show coverage etc. the only thing I saw for supernova was on Jimmy Kimbel and he is not even CBS.
BTW, I loved Gilby Clarke on season 2 and would love to see more of him in some show.

Instead of trying to book a real band or brand-name artists, they should audition for the whole lineup of the band instead of just the singer.
