VAN HALEN Tour Cancelled?
- Mar. 2, 2008
|
|
TMZ.com reports that the VAN HALEN tour has just been cancelled. Sources tell TMZ.com that arrangements are being made right now to cancel hotel stays for the tour — which was scheduled to continue through April 19. According to the site, the reason for the cancellation is guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who is said to be "having issues." VAN HALEN postponed two concerts last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia and Duluth, Georgia. No reason was given for the postponements, but both were rescheduled for mid-March. According to numerous unsubstantiated reports online, internal band tensions have been flaring up again as the tour has gone forward. The group hit the road last fall with original singer David Lee Roth for the first time in 22 years.

What are you talking about? TMZ has become THE trusted celebrity news source of the past 5 years.
They have a much better track record than anyone else. It's why they drive all the celeb news to the major media outlets. If they call it cancelled, it's 99% done.

I know that there's gonna be a shitload of "I TOLD YOU SO'S" coming from this.....but actually...I'm kind of surprised. I figured that if the tour was gonna implode, it would have happened shortly after it started. My thinking is.....if they make it this far up into the tour, they've got it licked. The first part would have been the toughest to conquer. Just getting used to each other again after 20 some years is the difficult part. There's more to this. And it'll be out shortly.........

They could still tour without Eddie, just replace him with either Zakk Wylde or Frank Novinec

The videoclip that TMZ is linking to is from their 2nd show here in Ft. Lauderdale (Sunrise, technically). If it's true that Eddie's back to his "old tricks" (something was beyond clear on their last "reunion"), then the one I feel the most for is his son. Wolfie has to be onstage each night having his dad crash and burn in front of thousands right next to him.
End the tour. Get some help. Go gently into that good night.

A. Eddie's ex' tell-all book described how she fucked everyone in the band
B. Wolfie ate too many brown M&Ms
C. Rita Haney, riding on the fact that Eddie put one his guitars in Dime's coffin, let one too many sausage farts backstage and blamed it on Wolfie.
D. Oh who gives a flaming turd. Everyone knew this shit was going to turn sour before the tour was done.

Dave should do another L'll Ain't Enough type album. By this time there is so much musical talent available and with his cash he could do some much better performances than Stompin' with the Devil or his last solo project.
Ditch Van Halen and choose a career already.

When it comes to trashing his name, Eddie has done quite well on his own. No help from Valerie is needed. You surely haven't forgotten the time when he stupidly let his stripper girlfriend take nude photos of him in his and Valerie's bedroom, have you?
I have seen a couple of these interviews. She did not trash him. Actually, she was harder on herself than she was on Ed. The sooner you can admit your"guitar god" is flawed, the sooner you can get on with your own life.

Eddie's always been his own greatest enemy. What I find surprising is that they got this far. They actually managed to do some touring. Still, these guys are too un-professional (especially when Sammy and Mike - the pros - are somewhere else) to handle it for long. Eddie's still got his habits, and maybe DLR ain't the nicest guy in the world either. Separately, those things might not sink the ship, but together they'd make the Titanic run into an iceberg in seconds.
Still, I'd say the biggest culprit in this bebacle is Eddie. It's his drink and drugs problem that have practically destroyed Van Halen. Here's a band that during its first 5 years of existence put out an earth-shattering record every year. Now, they've been on a hiatus for years, and the only thing they've recorded is a couple of songs that were used in a porno movie. Back in the day, they wrote Dirty movies about the evils of porn. Now they are themselves writing soundtracks to some naiive little girl from Oklahoma getting two dicks in her anus at the same time. "Yeah, baby, just relax. I know you've never done an anal before, just relax, you'll really enjoy it. Having two large dicks inside you!"
I used to be a really big fan on Van Halen, now they're just a fucking disgrace.

Eddie has ruined the band name. I say Sammy & Michael Anthony should get their Cabo village going again this summer and invite DLR & Cherone out to join the fun and get their own thing going.
If Alex wasn't his brother, Eddie would've probably kicked him out 2 or 3 times at this point as well.
I feel for the fact that Eddie is fighting this disease (assuming the issues he's having is alcohol, again), but even when he's clean he's a controlling asshole. A guitar god yes, but there will always be bad blood in Van Halen as long as Eddie is in charge.
Like it's been said before, I'm sure as hell glad I got to catch the first leg of the tour.

I can confirm, 100% that this is absolutely correct and there will be no further live shows at this time. We can get to the reasons behind this decision in a later update - but right now I can confirm that the tour is off, but I'm told that there is still some hope that dates might be rescheduled at a later date (to be determined at some other point in time...). I can add that any possible issues with vocalist David Lee Roth are not behind the tour cancellation.
as someone else said, if melodic rock is reporting it, that guy has some pretty tight connections with the band and management, so it's more than likely being postponed. I have to agree with him, I don't think it's anything with DLR. he has been pretty supportive of everything going, finally realizing that he needs VH more than they need him.

I knew this would have happened, but I thought it would have a lot sooner. Yeh I wish Sam and Mike would get back, but they knew what was up they told everyone from the start.

What a shocker? I feel bad for Wolfie. He's had a bird's eye view of how his dad's wheels have flown off. What a great year for him. His mom writes a book on her cheating and coke use, his dad goes to rehab a few times and he's had to listen to Dave try to hit a high note.

So it fell apart....whoda thunk it?
At least it had a better run than expected, and Ed's not going to keep going and embarassing himself like in 2004. It's funny the timing though, seeing as how Valerie had to open her fat mouth and tell everything right down to the wedding night....and the tour is shut down. Ed's always been private. I can see where getting your shit slung everywhere for Oprah and the public to see would drive you nuts. That bitch.

Brilliant. Unforgetable. Was so looking forward to maybe seeing them in the UK this summer. D.L.R. IS Van Halen in my book. Fuck Van Hagar (5150 weren't too bad long ago), this is bad news. No Cherone either thanks, Diamond Dave or fuck all!!! Get well soon Eddie (???!!!?).

Valerie spewing private shit everywhere is definitely a trigger. Imagine calling back up all the most painful memories and disappointments of your life and knowing that millions of Americans are tuning in to laugh about them. It's not just something you shrug your shoulders to and go on about your day and not think about or ruminate over and have to think through yet again. Not a good thing to throw at a recovering alcoholic. Also. with the American tour ending there must be some pressure building about what's next. A festival tour of Europe? Into the studio with Dave and Woolfie for a new album? That is the only way you are going to launch your son's musical career. I would say that this is just a bump, not the sign of the end. He wants to launch Woolfie's musical career. That motivation and his new girlfriend's support will get Eddie back on track, soon. This ain't over kids, by a long shot!!!

This sucks. I saw them in Anaheim last year, and they absolutely rocked. I hope it's not Dave and Ed bickering again; they seemed to genuinely get along. I want a new album! Crap on a stick.

Hey! Van Halen Fans... This is what their website says:
The Van Halen concerts in Dallas, Cincinnati, Raleigh, and Baltimore have been postponed. According to Eddie Van Halen's physician, he is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures.
The March 3rd Dallas concert at American Airlines Center has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2008; Cincinnati's March 5th concert at U.S. Bank Arena has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 22nd; Raleigh's March 7th concert at RBC Center has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 13th; and Baltimore's March 9th concert at 1st Mariner Arena has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 15th.
Fans should retain their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled concerts or ticket refunds will be issued at the original point of purchase.
I saw them at MGM Grande in Las Vegas on 12/28/07 for the 6th time since 1980 - THE BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO - BAR NONE!! I also have tickets to Tiger Jam featuring Van Halen at Mandalay Bay on 4/19/08. I just called them (3/3/08 at 4:30 pm) to see if the show was still on and they told me there was no cancellation as far as the box office knew.
...c'mon, People, give Dave a break!! ...'Cuz everybody wants one, Dave needs one, too!!

Do y'all remember the photo of Ed that was published in the Globe several years ago? You know, the one his stripper girlfriend took of him nude and holding his guitar? You remember that one? BTW, this photo was taken in his and Valerie's bedroom and he had been banging her for two years. He paid this chick to keep the photo and her story out of the tabloids and when he stopped paying, she went to the Globe.
Do you think Valerie might have been a little humiliated when the story broke? Do you think Wolfie might have been a little embarrassed when his father drank himself into a stupor night after night on the 2004 tour?
This man is 53 years old for f-ck's sake. It is high time he grew up and it's high time some of you come to the realization that you have been blaming the wrong people for Van Halen's downward spiral.
I hope he gets well, but if everyone is willing to ignore his antics and point the finger at everyone else, why in the hell should he ever help himself?
