VAN HALEN Tour Promoter Issues Statement - Mar. 3, 2008
MTV.com reports that the reunited VAN HALEN have been forced to postpone four upcoming dates of their U.S. tour due to an unspecified medical condition affecting guitarist Eddie Van Halen. A statement issued by tour promoter Live Nation on Monday afternoon (March 3) explained that concerts in Dallas, Cincinnati, Baltimore and Raleigh, North Carolina, have been postponed and rescheduled for April.

"According to Eddie Van Halen's physician, he is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures," read the release.

The March 3 show at American Airlines Arena in Dallas has been rescheduled for April 24; the March 5 show at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati has been moved to April 22; the March 7 show at RBC Center in Raleigh was shifted to April 13 and the March 9 show at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore will now take place April 15, according to Pollstar.

Fans should retain their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled concerts or ticket refunds will be issued at the original point of purchase.

The Live Nation spokesperson said the tour is expected to pick up the previously scheduled dates beginning on March 11 in Charlottesville, Virginia, and, for now, no other dates have been affected.

He's a beat up old man on so many levels. Very sad... it's like a boxer who doesn't get out in time before the brain starts to wuzzle... like Evander Holyfield or Joe Frazier... obviously Muhammad Ali but I didn't want to go there... damn shame...

I guess it wouldn't be a VH tour (post '95 at least) if some kind of lightning didn't strike the outhouse.

Have (considering making that 'had') front row seats to the Raleigh, NC show and was really, really looking forward to it.

Luckily I caught the first two shows in Charlotte and G'boro...hedging bets just in "unlikely" event something like this happened.

BTW...what the fuck is up with scheduling something for a Friday and then re-scheduling for a Sunday? Uhhh...not the same thing. Dear Mr. Tour promoter...you, sir...suck!

Wow, that was a very cagey press release. Regardly of what a few bashers up there posted about Eddie's liver and AA, this doesn't sound like drinking at all. Hope it's not the cancer again. After losing Jeff Healey today to cancer, if Eddie had a relapse, well...that would just suck.

Yes....why no mention of Jeff Healey's death due to cancer?

Fuck the 'that-ain't-metal' mentality - the man was a great guitarist.

Right, the guy did have cancer and who knows what damage all the drinking has done to him. Let's just hope he's alright. Not for our sake but for his, and his families sake.

Valerie's book tour coincides with some of these dates and now they get canceled. Bad publicity?! and now they want to sell those shows out instead of playing to a half empty auditorium maybe?

You better call up the ambulance I'm, deep in shock
Overloaded baby, I can hardly walk

Somebody get me a doctor (Ooh!)
Somebody get me a doctor

Yeah! I'm feelin' over fine
And I'm speedin', down that line

Woo, woo!

(Guitar Solo)

Ow! Ow! Ow!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Woo!
Oh, woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo!

Ow!
Ooo!

Ya better call up a doctor, feelin high
I'm overloaded baby, I say "Bye-bye!"

Somebody get me a doctor. Oh, yeah!
Somebody get me a doctor. Ooh, ooh!
Somebody get me a doctor. Ah, yeah!
Ooh!

Somebody give me a shot!

It still sounds like there's a chance the rest of this gets cancelled, pending the results of these tests. I hope not, but I'm not going to any of these dates anyway. I saw them back in November, and on the 1984 tour. ;p

I see people posting here criticizing EVH for his drinking..it seems very odd to me...Was rock and Roll ever devoid of vices? ... are any of these posters devoid of vices? If EVH (heaven forbid) drank himself to death would that be such a shocking thing? It seems like some people want to be fans of rock and roll and then turn around and ridicule the the people that truly live the lifestyle...Rock is not about milk and cookies so go join the boy scouts you hypocritical MF's!

this is too bad, but is it a shock that a person's hearing can get messed up by playng at these volumes for as long as he has played and for as long as he has just outright abused himself? i have a very messed up inner ear system. it has kept me away from seeing this tour and many others that i would of normally been at. and i play music and i pretty much have hung it up because of this nonsense. i hope ed's heaing/inner ear is ok and he can get back to business. once this area of the body gets messed up, there is a whole world of confusion and crap that can get in the way.
rock on ed!

and how she "lovingly" threw Eddie under the bus it wouldn't surprise me, given the fragile state of his sobriety over the last umpteen years, if he's crawled back inside a bottle or needle. The footage of his solo in Vegas certainly looked like he'd already gotten a pretty good head start. Like others, I too hope this isn't cancer. Get well Ed.

And to think I was sure it was going to be DLR's antics that would cause cancelled shows, if not the entire tour. They must have him in a muzzle.

Eddies a good guitarist, but I gotta point out, he has got to have the broadest nose of any caucasian ever.

That things got to be least four inches wide from nostril to nostril !

If he has a medical condition, that must be it.
'Bout time some smart doctor diagnosed it.

Also his nose seems to be getting wider and wider with time.
Maybe that's where his cancer is ? Could be he's got the tumor in there and its growing ?
Or does cocaine do that to your nostrils ?
