VELVET REVOLVER To Support LED ZEPPELIN? - Mar. 17, 2008
Duff McKagan has revealed to HotPress.com that VELVET REVOLVER is in pole position to support LED ZEPPELIN if the legendary rock act decides to go ahead with a full-blown reunion tour.

"I understand that we have it, although I imagine there will be plenty of bands prepared to kick and punch us out of the way for the privilege!" said McKagan. "I would so love to have been at their London gig before Christmas, but we had dates of our own that obviously took precedence.

"What made up for it was running into Jimmy Page at an awards ceremony and him not only knowing who I was, but also saying he'd caught a couple of VELVET REVOLVER shows. No way did I think in 1977 when I saw LED ZEP in Seattle that one day I'd be hanging out with the guitarist. Things like that I still pinch myself!"

LED ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones said at BBC Radio 2's annual Folk Awards in London on February 4 that the band has "no idea" about its future plans yet, according to Gigwise.com. When asked if the group members had spoken with each other since their acclaimed reunion show in December, Jones told the BBC, "I am obliged to say we have and we have absolutely no idea of what we are going to be doing."

Jones had said shortly after the reunion concert that the band would meet in January to discuss its future.

Guitarist Jimmy Page said at a press conference in Japan in January that the band was "musically ready" to go on a world tour, although the earliest that was likely to happen was September. The delay seems mainly due to the schedule of singer Robert Plant, who will be touring with singer Alison Krauss to support "Raising Sand".

When asked recently in New York about the chances of a full-blown ZEPPELIN tour, Plant said, "You never know what is around the corner."

I can't imagine what a treat this would be having not been born before they broke up. A chance to see Zeppelin live would be a true priviledge.

Far-out - quite the honor.

. . . I said No No No! . . .

It's the Cult as opener.

It is better than a flat out "No" from Plant.

Fairly sure the Zep rumors are already dead. Plant said he wants to continue doing his thing with Alison Krauss and that's pretty much that.

Certainly wouldn't mind seeing Page and JPJ do a tour though. Maybe with Jason Bonham and David Coverdale? Now there's something I'd pay a pretty penny to get to see.

I'd rather either see Zeppelin play a longer set with no opening band, or have someone less-known be given a chance to be heard, like Shadow Circus or Porcupine Tree. Velvet Revolver is already famous.

I vote for the Melvins to open, and they should play last.

How long are we ALL supposed to wait for Robert Plant to get his sh*t together? When will the suffering end? Duff is in dreamland, as usual, and Jimmy needs to kick Robert's ass with a size 12 shoe. Wanker. Good luck, Duff. You'll need to eat a whole box of Lucky Charms for this dream gig to come true.

convince Soundgarden to get back together, and have them open for Zep...hey, I can dream can't I?

...........didn't Plant say "you never know what's around the corner" and THEN state emphatically that it "wasn't going to happen, that it was a one-time-only show"? Didn't Blabbermouth report BOTH these stories?

Am I dreaming this? Have we all forgotten that Plant has already said no reunion will happen?

Exactly, dude. But that ain't gonna stop people saying it's gonna happen. Any minute now, someone will post saying, "The tour's definitely on - I heard it on my local radio station" (because that's definitely how history's greatest rock band will announce their tour - through some no-mark broadcaster)

Gotta admire Duff's optimism though. Who else but him thinks Velvet Revolver will even be together once this tour's staggered to an end?

since robert plant made an official statement a while ago saying that a zep. reunion is absolutely out of the question for him.we'll see what happens but it's very doubtful.

When would this tour take place? Who would be VR's singer now that Weiland is back with STP? Does anyone smell what I'm smelling?

why do the greatest of all time need an opening act? no matter who that act is they will be forgotten the min. zep hits the stage so just skip that and play a 2.5-3hr. show. they don't have to play every night and can take as many days in between shows to rest as they need if they need it. but come and do it!

Although I like VR, I think there are more deserving bands out there for the opening slot. But a GN'R reunion would be sweet indeed.
