DANIEL MACMASTER's Cause Of Death Revealed - Mar. 17, 2008
Terry Baker, who was in a band called SCORCHER with vocalist Daniel MacMaster before Daniel hooked up with Jason Bonham to form BONHAM, has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding MacMaster's passing:

"My name is Terry Baker. I have been friends with Dan since we were in SCORCHER together.

"Dan passed away from a staph infection; he had pneumonia and didnt realize he had a staph infection that got in his blood. By the time he got to hospital, it was too late.

"His family and friends are in shock.

"[Daniel was] certainly one of the greatest singers I ever worked with. He told me when I was teaching him guitar pre-BONHAM he was going to be famous and tour the world and within two years of singing, he was doing a world tour opening for THE CULT.

"No words can explain his talent and personality. Truly an amazing person.

"Love you, Dan."

According to sources, MacMaster was in the hospital less than 24 hours before he passed away on Sunday, March 16. He was 39 years old.

That sucks! The original Bonham lineup is one I would have liked to see reunite someday. Bad news..

Saw that tour with the Cult in Chicago - Both bands were killer. Dangerous Toys were first up..

Kind of lost track of Dan after 'Disregard for Timekeeping'. Terrible to hear that kind of news. The guy had sterling pipes. Best wishes and empathy to the family.

That's a shame. Every time someone that was a member of one of the bands from "back in the day" passes....it brings me down quite a bit. Every so often, we read of another one passing. It really was 20 years ago. Can't believe that.

Hello everyone, very sad day learning of the passing of Danny.I like Terry Baker am also a very good friend of Danny's from the Scorcher days here in Barrie On.Can. We had some wicked times in the Bonham days partying in Tampa Fl. in '89 and again in Los Angeles in '91. He was the most talented singer I've ever known. RIP Danny, hope your jammin with Randy Rhoads and all the other great rockers that died too early. Love ya brother!

I had the distinct pleasure of getting to share a few dates with Bonham during their first tour and would like to say that we've lost an amazing vocalist and one hell of a person. All condolences to his family. This is truly a loss.

Bast.Maker: Regarding my statement, I'd list off the names of talented musicians we've lost over the past 40 years as well as Daniel McMaster's name here to give you an idea about my "Heaven's house band" remark but I think my point's come across that even you'd have got the general idea by now. Thanks for taking my post way too literally.

R.I.P. Daniel.

This stuff is serious. This goes to show that you can be here today and gone tomorrow from a little bug.

What a shame. Dan had a great singing voice.

Like Terry and some others here, I got to know Dan back in the Scorcher days at the Clifton. We stayed in touch over the years and considered him a good friend. I will miss him. The world lost a beautiful person this week and will be poorer for it.
My condolences go out to his family. Please rest assured knowing that Daniel touched many lives over the years, and enriched every one of them.

Rest in peace, brother
love ya

I had the great fortune of growing up with Dan and his brothers. We went to school, hung out and from the school days onto hanging at the Clifton, R/R Heaven etc. I watched Dan go from small town to big time and was proud to call him my friend. When he was post production for Mad Hatter we lived together in Barrie and had some wild times. He had an awesome laugh and a smile that ladies couldn't resist and a personality that was grand and kind. I was floored when Bake called me and still am today. My condolences to Tina and Dan's kids, Juice, Cory, Ma and Pa MacMaster, Uncle Tom.

To answer someones question, yes Dan did continue working in the music business. He had several personal projects on the go and some colaborative projects as well. Monkey-MacMaster to name one, pretty good stuff from the little bit I listened to.

Like Bake said "Love ya Dan"

I’ve known Danny since I was in grade six. There are too many stories to tell, some sad, most happy but all funny. He was a fun and charismatic guy to be around no matter how many times he shot me with a bb gun.
He still holds the title for the funniest line ever spoken. I’m nearly reaching my forth decade now and I heard the line when I couldn’t have been much older than 20. It was after his last tour ended in Vancouver. He was staying with Juice, Corn nuts and me on Vancouver Island for a couple of months. Dan and I went out one night and we (when I say we I really mean he) brought a couple of girls home for some late evening entertainment. We were all just sitting around relaxing listening to some tunes when he says “I was just wondering when all the talking stops and the nakedness starts?” I’ve been laughing about that for nearly twenty years. I’ve tried it a couple of times since with slightly different results.
Dan’s life was cut short and many of us believe that we only saw a glimmer of his talent. It is sad to know that he had so much more to give but he did something that most of us never will. He made it. He realized his dream by the time that he was twenty. He was an F’n Rock Star. The real deal and that’s always the way that I will remember you Danny.

I have already posted above but just wanted to post another comment. The benefit concert for Dan in Barrie was an awesome event. I really wish it could have been under better circumstances, but it goes to show how loved Dan was. People came from all over Canada and the US to show their love and respect. I got to spend some time with his widow Tina and wish to send her my personal condolences.
I can't speak for others, but I still think about him all the time. I have a few very funny stories, much like the one posted by Uncle Grd above. I remember one time I took him to a private party for strippers and porn stars...needless to say it was a long night. But the surprising thing I rememer about that party was that Dan owned that bar- he had everyone in awe. And given the other people that were there, that is quite a feat! I remember Dan singing his heart out in the VIP room. I even remember it was Terence Trent D'Arby that he was singing! Wrap your head around that!
Fuck I miss that guy. I have met a lot of people in my life, he was one of the few special people that come along and really make you understand was living is.

RIP my friend.
you are not forgotten
