Late BONHAM Singer Remembered - Mar. 20, 2008
Raymond Bowe of The Barrie Examiner reports: A Barrie native who reached unparalleled heights as a rock star in the late 1980s with the group BONHAM has died.

Daniel MacMaster, 39, died unexpectedly Sunday in Thunder Bay following complications from pneumonia, after a strep A infection entered his bloodstream.

"He was the greatest singer I ever worked with, the greatest person I ever knew," close friend and former SCORCHER bandmate Terry Baker said yesterday from Tampa, Fla. "He was my best friend."

MacMaster was fronting the local rock group SCORCHER when opportunity knocked. The former Barrie North Collegiate student was asked to join BONHAM, which featured drummer Jason Bonham, son of late LED ZEPPELIN member John Bonham.

"He went from a small-town Barrie boy to limousines and airline tickets," said Lafontaine resident Bret Carrigan, HONEYMOON SUITE's drummer from 1998 until 2006.

MacMaster pushed and prodded his way into SCORCHER around 1987, Baker recalled.

"I'm your new singer — I'm gonna tour the world and be famous," Baker recalls MacMaster saying when they met. "He was so cocky, and wouldn't take no for an answer."

This guy deserves more than a few newspaper stories. The band really should have been promoted better.

That Jason didn't have his shit together in those days. Word was that he was a dick to work with, and felt that his name alone would gaurantee sales. Who knows what could have happened with that band. Anyway, it's sad that this had to happen, but death is a part of life. At least we got some damn good music out him, and his family can say that at least it wasn't a rock 'n roll tragedy. By all accounts he had a great life, he just got sick. R.I.P dude.

JB hasn't said a word since this happenned. Is he a dick or what? Back in the day, Danny's voice was the #1 reason I bought this cd.
I later found out it was Jason Bohnam on drums and namesake.
I'm glad we at least got to hear this much of what his powerful voice could do. His newer solo stuff was really good too. RIP Danny.

Daniel Macmaster was a true talent. Bonham's second cd Mad Hatter kicked total ass! The songs Change of a season, The storm, and Wait for you on the disregard of timekeeping cd were killer! I have a bootleg concert video of Bonham live In Washington state fom the 1992 Mad hatter tour. The wait for you video was cool. The first time I heard Daniel sing I thought it was robert plant on lead vocals that's how much he sounded like plant! R. I.P. Daniel you will be truly missed by this bonham fan.

I to saw Bonham support The Cult but I wasn't impressed. Still all that stuff is immaterial now.

Condolences to the MacMaster family.
