GENE SIMMONS Attempts To Break Pizza-Eating Record; Video Available
- Mar. 22, 2008
|
|
New Zealand's TV3 reports that a Guinness World Record has been broken by a New Zealander today (Saturday, March 22) but it was not local contestants the crowds were interested in. Gene Simmons from rock band KISS thought he would have a crack at being the world's fastest pizza eater. The rock icon may have a legendary mouth but he was not able to set any pizza-eating records today. Watch video footage of Simmons taking part in the pizza-eating contest at this location. KISS are in Wellington for a two-day rock festival that also features OZZY OSBOURNE and ALICE COOPER.

Dude I don't know where you're from, and I don't want to bash you really. But I'm from Canada and I travel a lot, and the worst pizzas I ate are definitely in the U.S. The only good one I remember was this place in Greenville South Carolina. The problem with American pizza is a lack of an ingredient, oh yeah it's called spice...
No offence really.

Because live, Robin missed his cue during I want you to want me, but on the Cd its fixed...but I wasnt sure if it was that show or the Music for hangovers show in Chicago... not thats its a big deal anybody that plays that much live is gonna have some flubs from time to time.. Also Rick was at your house? thats pretty cool..Was it business or are you buddies??Rick is a great musician altho listening to him talk about other musicians in the music biz at least in concert, he doesnt seem to care for many of his peers in rock...
And faith no more- Im from 30 miles outve Boston, The NorthEast metro areas has the best pizza on the planet period, and no offence taken..Im not saying a place like Montana, or Idaho is gonna have a great pie..Im just saying as a country in general,we have the best pizza.. what part of Canada you from east or west? Ive been to Montreal many times..and dude not for nothing but you cant compare the food from Boston to Montreal..Hockey teams yea sure you got me there..but not eatries...

I have ALOT of Cheap Trick merchandise as well, everything from Posters to about 50 tshirts, watches, hats, sweater, jackets, bootlegg videos..In my 20s I was a HUGE FAN.. Im 35 now and i havent seen them since a horrble clam bake fest in 2003 Newport RI.. But Ive been two all three Fests...been to many states to seen em play.. The setlist just got old..They have alot of GREAT TUNES but they play the old standard set for years.. That Motley Crue concert though...For Generation Swine, Cheap trick broke out their most hardrocking set ever and that was cool...although that was the weirdest Crue concert Ive EVER seen...That tune Flush..I like the song but those images they put upon the big screen was some pretty ghastly shit.. and it took away some fun for the crowd that night..

That Animalize video is fun - Eric's so fucking good. I like Eric Singer too - great drummer, seems like a nice guy - but Carr is the best
As for Ace stuff, my dad (who took me to my first Kiss show when I was 11 - what a way to start!) got me a picture disc of his '78 solo album. That and my cat are the first things I'd rescue from a fire!
Oh, and just to get in on this Cheap Trick sub-thread, I saw 'em support Motley in London in '85. It was during the "Flame" period I guess, so they weren't as memorable as they might have been...

I would most definately go out and get Psycho Circus, its a little darker, Ace has the song called into the void thats worth owning it just for that one, Unmasked is kind of bubble gum, where i live the radio station plays Within, and a few others from that album. I like most all of the stuff from there on out, my favorite non make up akbum is Revenge.

Unmasked is kinda fun. Is That You and, especially, Ace's Torpedo Girl are fantastic. And the pop fan in me always liked Shandi, Tomorrow and You're All That I Want
Psycho Circus has got some great stuff on it, but if it's dark and moody you want, check out Carnival Of Souls. If you can suspend your amazement at Kiss shamelessly looting from Alice In Chains, it's their heaviest since Creatures (though obviously not nearly as good)

The first six tracks are great, although it's hard not to laugh when Paul rips off Alice's "Rain When I Die" and calls it, ta da, "Rain"! But the album's only a buck on Amazon so no excuse not to get it
The only one I've never heard is Hot In The Shade, but I'm not losing sleep over that...

Yeah, Aerosmith are just getting better and better. I saw 'em at Jones Beach last year and they were phenomenal: a handful of hits but much more hard guitar stuff. Joe almost stole the show from Steven! Best moment was when they stopped Hangman Jury a few bars in, and did an incredible Movin' Out instead

I always wanted to see Paul do All American Man live, never seen it , but he did play it at the handful of shows last year. I have a bootleg copy of the (solo) Live to Win Tour, he played Majic Touch from Dynasty and several others from the 78 solo album, the sound isn't great because it's filmed from the back, but he did a killer job, i was very impressed.

A Gene Simmons thread full of - gasp - friendly, civil, grammatically correct conversation? Goddamnit, people... where's the childish name-calling, fecal porn references and insinuations that if you don't like X band, you MUST be a fan of (insert band that everybody hates, such as Bullet For My Valentine)? This is Blabbermouth, after all...
In all seriousness, the Pizzas in New Zealand a pretty much the same as anywhere else. We've got the major chains like Pizza Hut and Domino's, as well as Mom-And-Pop places that make it 'Italian Style' (i.e. thin-as-fuck crust that makes it damn near impossible to eat). I can't say that having a New Zealander win the Guiness Record for Pizza Eating is making me come over all patriotic.

I always thought Trial By Fire stole a riff off Paul's solo album. Been a long time since I heard it, but possibly off It's Alright?

Dark Light, yeah! I put that in my Kiss top three when me and JRSPON were on here the other day after you'd gone (or were maybe working, I mean, c'mon, PRIORITIES, David!)
True confession time: first time I encountered Kiss was borrowing Double Platinum from my local record library. The vinyl cover is all embossed silver, right? So I'm looking at the cover - never seen Kiss before - and I figure the feminine-looking one is actually a woman called Gene. Fortunately I soon learned it was a man, and that was Ace
So I quickly become as much of a fan as you can be at, like, ten years old, then Lick It Up comes out and Ace has been replaced by some guy called Vinnie Vincent!
A lot of catching up was required - which is why I'm blaming Kiss for me not being very good at maths and all the other stuff you're SUPPOSED to study at that age

Ha, nice one. I was actually happy to see some Meshuggah stories posted on B'mouth coz I figured that would keep 'em off the other threads (amazingly, in over a hundred posts on the Scott Weiland story, no-one's mentioned them)
What do you think about Ace playing Paul's songs like I Want You and Love Gun? JRSPON rightly raised this issue when I was complaining about Tommy singing Shock Me. My possibly not-bulletproof argument was that Ace was motivated by music not money

Petecast- why do you think Cheap trick didnt have another fest? I thought they were making money with them.. also, I agree 100% Special One was terrible..I like mostly all the Trick albums but that one..was..well when you have two songs that LITERALLY HUM on it..its never a good sign... I really liked Busted alot of the diehards dont care for it, but I dig it.. I think every album up to busted was great..then they slipped a little, The 4 year break from busted to Woke up with a monster really did them in.. any thoughts?
And the chinese invented Spaghetti too..But Id rather eat it in Queens NY, then Singapore, if you get my meaning..

They wouldn't even have to get too obscure (I mean, I'd love if they replaced God Of Thunder with Almost Human and 100,000 Years and Let Me Go Rock 'n' Roll with practically anything, but it ain't gonna happen) - just maybe mix it up like they did on Unplugged. You know, Got To Choose, A World Without Heroes, Sure Know Something... that kinda stuff
And although I still think they play Rock and Roll All Nite pretty well, who would care if they dropped it?

Have to admit I've never seen Detroit Rock City. The soundtrack album's fun though (apart from Manson, who I usually like)
You and David are like Blabbermouth's very own Bert and Ernie. I'll be out in NY in the fall, we should all meet up and, uh, play with Kiss dolls or something...

I Finally Found My Way is worse than You Wanted the Best isn't it?
They're both better than Rise To It or Let's Put the X in Sex though. Sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night, clutching a crucifix and shivering at the memory of those videos...

True - coming from a huge kiss fan, rock n roll all nite has been over played, where i live in (Pensacola Fl.) there are 3 rock stations that ware it out, the one i do like to hear is the Llive version from kiss alive 3 of Detroit Rock City, they play it every so often and its always fresh.

I've just remembered that Manson's version of The KKK Took My Baby Away (on the otherwise pretty good Ramones tribute album that features the best Kiss performance of the past decade) is EVEN WORSE than his version of Highway to Hell

You are quite right. Tears Are Falling is quite, quite shocking. That's the one where Paul is wearing green do-the-dishes gloves, right?
I remember reading about it at the time - apparently they were aiming for a Raiders of the Lost Ark feel. I bet Spielberg wet himself if he saw it

Out here in Swissland, I'm as likely to hear Kiss on the radio as I am to have Christy Turlington sit on my face
And back home in England, the only Kiss you'd ever hear would be Crazy, Crazy Nights or God Gave Rock & Roll to You

i ment to tell you all earlier that we had kiss alive (tribute band) play on the beach last night for the spring breakers, they started at 10pm and played for 2 hours, it was awsome, the paul guy was kindof good, they played all the gems, crowd of about 2500 people, they kept the crowd into it and it was way better than i thought it would be. it was the first kiss tribute band ive seen.

I would gladly shoot people who use "LOL" but you actually ARE making me Laugh Out Loud, bro
Try to think of a half-decent Kiss video that isn't I Love It Loud or Crazy Crazy Nights or, at a pinch, Forever
I'm struggling...

There's an okay one touring at the moment. They've even got two original members of the band!
Sorry, someone had to say it...

He's gotten plenty of practice playing Swallow The Sword with Donald Trump and that guy from "Mad Money". He might not set any pizza-eating records, but I'm sure he's taken enough corporate dick in his mouth he probably looks like a cocktail shrimp platter every other night.

I NEARLY BEGAN THE RESPONSES TO THIS THREAD WITH MY HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED AND BIOLOGICALLY FOUNDED PREDICTIONS OF THE PROFOUNDLY FOUL BATHROOM ODOUR WHICH WOULD RESULT FROM THE MIGHTY BOWELS OF GENE SIMMONS EXPELLING HIS DIGESTIVE RESIDUES AFTER HIS PARTICIPATION IN SUCH AN EVENT AS THIS PIZZA EATING COMPETITION.
SCIENCE HAS DEFINITIVELY ESTABLISHED THAT A HUMAN'S CONSUMPTION OF LARGE QUANTITIES OF DOUGH, MEAT, AND CHEESE, IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER ORIGINATED IN BOSTON, CHICAGO, OR NEW ZEALAND, MUST NECESSARILY LEAD TO THE EVENTUAL EXPULSION OF MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF POTENT, FLATULENT FUMES ACCOMPANYING MAGNIFCIENTLY NOISOME, PUTRID, AND GARGANTUAN QUANTITIES OF FECES SUCH AS WHICH COULD EASILY SUPPLY THE ORGANIC FUEL REQUIREMENTS OF SEVERAL THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES. ( DID KISS PERFORM IN THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH ?)
FURTHERMORE, THE LARGE SIZED BODY HABITUS OF GENE SIMMONS, HIS HEBREW GENETICS, AND HIS AFFLICTION WITH IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME COULD ONLY MAGNIFY THE EXPECTED RESULTS BY ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE HERETOFORE UNIMAGINABLE !
LET US DARE TO IMAGINE A WORLD MUCH DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE IN WHICH WE LIVE TODAY - A WORLD WHERE NO MIDDLE EASTERN FARMER WILL SUFFER FROM A SHORTAGE OF MANURE TO FERTILIZE HIS FIELDS... A WORLD IN WHICH NO TENUOUS EASTERN BLOC ENTRPRENEUR WILL HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT INADEQUATE NATURAL GAS TO FUEL HIS INDUSTRIAL VENTURES...A WORLD IN WHICH BLOATED, TALENTLESS, WEALTHY WESTERN ENTERTAINERS NEED NO LONGER ISSUE LOUD PRETENTIOUS STATEMENTS ABOUT WANTING TO SAVE THE WORLD - ONLY TO BE IMMEDIATELY AND RIGHTLY RIDICULED FOR THEIR BLATANT HYPOCRISY !!!
NO MORE, I SAY !!! LET THE
