The first video off the new BAD BRAINS album, "Build a Nation", can be viewed below. SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian directed the effort, which is a video combination of two songs, "Give Thanks and Praises" and "Jah Love". Shot at the Sasquatch Festival and also Portland Oregon by famed cinematographer Danny Hiele (U2, GREEN DAY, KANYE WEST), the concept captures and merges punk and reggae. Thus the main punk video, "Give Thanks and Praises", is seen merging into the dub reggae of "Jah Love". It's a concept Shavo felt did justice to the band as being innovators of punk rock.

"I really wanted to respect this band and bring out and capture what they are about, which is a certain intensity...yet also bringing out all sides of the band," he said. "So, the brutal fury of the first video merges into this beautiful dub song. It is some of the most stunning cinematography from DP Danny Hiele I have ever seen. Glorious film style."

"Build a Nation" was released on June 26, 2007 via Megaforce Records. The group's first proper studio CD in over a decade features all the original members: HR, Darryl Jenifer, Dr. Know and Earl Hudson.

Produced by longtime fan, Adam Yauch of the BEASTIE BOYS, "Build a Nation" is a return to form for the band that helped define American punk and hardcore music. It also represents the first studio album, outside BEASTIE BOYS albums, to be recorded at the BEASTIE BOYS' "Oscilloscope" laboratories and studio compound in New York City.

I've yet to find anyone who really liked this album. I'm sure that someone will pop in here and say they really like it. I'm just saying that I have yet to read a good review or find someone that likes this album. Maybe Megafore should do some deluxe releases of some of their classics (aside from "Speak English or Die", which they've reissued like 3 times).

"Speak English or Die" That was S.O.D not Bad Brains.

Musically I thought this album was a true return to form. Unfortunately the vocals did not match. H.R lost whatever he used to have. It's a shame. In their day they were incredible to see live.

Build a Nation is interesting and when I first got it, I thought it was "different". A lot of effects that I wasn't used to hearing the Bad Brains use. It through me off a bit. The songs are solid though. The riffs are there...

HR isn't a worse singer as compared to 20 years ago, he's just different. His tastes have turned more towards reggae, but I like the way he performs nowadays. The "crazy guy" spitting out the lyrics under what appears to be some sort of high is fun!!

I meant that Megaforce should do deluxe reissues of Megaforce's classics, not Bad Brains classics (althought the latter is not a bad idea, but probably not feasible since other labels have the rights to those recordings).

Most of the classic Megaforce titles from the 1983-1985 era when Important Records was the manufacturer and distrobution network, were already pressed on to CD in 1986, by Important Records and Caroline also did the Classic Megaforce/ Important -era titles on to CD, circa 1989.

A few of those Megaforce classics such as the Mercyful Fate "Melissa" and the first 2 Grave Digger's "Heavy Metal Breakdown" and "Witch Hunter" were issused under license, and the respective labels RoadrunneR and Noise are responsible for Collector Edition reprints, in a deluxe edition.

I love him though. The vocal processing is pretty cool. :)
